One-third of Pakistan is under water. Massive floods have affected over 33 million people in the country. Raging waters have swept away humans, animals, crops, and homes. About 56% of Pakistan's main crops have been wiped out. Roads, bridges, and other infrastructure have been destroyed.
It's estimated that the recent floods have caused an economic loss of over $30 billion to Pakistan, a country already deep into the debt-trap. As a result, poverty might go up from 22% to 36%.
After the catastrophic floods and rain, the country now stares an alarming food crisis. In the first relief phase, Akhuwat Foundation is providing food, cash support, clothes, medicine, and tents to those in need. In the second rehabilitation phase, Akhuwat would lend support so people can rebuild their homes, agriculture land, buy livestock, and re-establish their small businesses.
Akhuwat Organization will provide interest-free loans with the grace period and small monthly installments so people can stand on their feet and hence don't become dependent on charity.
I have been a volunteer for @AkhuwatOfficial since 2020 and admire their brotherhood philosophy and commitment to serve others. A few days ago, I accompanied Akhuwat Foundations's founder Dr. Amjad Saqib and @akhuwatusa832 President Mr. Azhar Hameed to Sindh province of Pakistan where Akhuwat is providing humanitarian relief to flood victims. We listened to some heartbreaking stories as some people had lost everything. We witnessed resilience and saw hope in children's eyes. Though I could spend only one day in the field, I am sharing this video so you could see what I experienced.
