Just received my Bike Friday PakiT today, unpacked & put it together in less than10 minutes, even with dog distractions. Feels great so far, test riding more this afternoon. Backpack is on back order, so will try hiking with it on my back later. LOVE the belt drive & 11 enclosed hub gears, PERFECTLY ADJUSTED right out of the box. THANKS Bike Friday gang, this is a good one!

Hi again John. Regarding my previous comment looking at the NWT vs PackIT, I think I finally found my answer when looking up a PackIT with a rack: -"[The rack] is too short on the sides to take standard panniers. The pakiT is not intended to be a loaded touring bike, its a light fast daily adventure bike!" It doesn't say how much weight it can take, but looking at it's construction, it looks pretty lightweight. So I guess my dream of using a packIT across Vietnam has just ended :-( Thanks for your responses!

Thanks folmonty, I'm loving the pakiT so far. We just got a tiny camping trailer, so I'll be using it for some camping trips soon. I particularly like the belt drive and internal-gear 11 speed hub. Makes this a TIDY folder, no mess no fuss, and you can ride it pretty much anywhere. Good luck on your note-taking!

Hello John, I had a New World Tourist that needs replacing and now I'm headed for crossing Vietnam from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh in 2 months. So I was reviewing my options and wonder between buying a brand new NWT again, or this "PackIt" instead? I think the 20 in wheels of the NWT is a winner for stability and unpaved roads. But what's your take on this PackIt, now that you've been riding it for a while? Would dare use it to do some bike touring in a "rougher" place like Vietnam? I don't think it's going to be "so rough", but certainly not all roads are going to be up to North American standards... Still, the Packit fits in a SMALLER suitcase than my New World Tourist and is much lighter too. It's VERY tempting. I can definitely see myself entering hotels with my Packit under my arm, while the NWT is a bit heavy and large... I rarely use the shortest (easiest) speeds on my bike, I'm more in needs of the longer ones! Does this Alfine hub have enough gear-inch on the longest gears so that you can get some real speed? Any comments about the idea of making a 2000-mile ride on this bike would be appreciated, as I need to order my bike REAL FAST, if I want to get it on time... THANKS! Jacques

PassionateAdventures Jacques, I also had a NWT, so can compare the two bikes a bit. Both are strong bikes, capable of handling some abuse. 16" wheels definitely feel different than the 20"wheels for directional stability. I love the rear-hub gears & belt drive on both bikes. The packiT does indeed pack small, & can be jammed into a suitcase or travel bag fast, with little mechanical disassembly compared to the NWT. I got a backpack for my packiT, should be very efficient, but have not traveled with it yet. Vietnam is a destination I want to visit soon, but no personal experience there to guide your decision. All told, if convenience is your goal, I'd choose the pakiT. If you're not an attentive cyclist, & depend on the bike to help guide or stabilize itself while the rider goofs off, I'd take the NTW. Gearing on the Alfine hub is fine, I can spin it out in top gear on flat land by working hard, but have never wanted a longer top gear. I tend to be concerned about lower gears while touring in hilly terrain. Let me know if any more questions, I'll try to help.

@@johnphillips6042 So what is the latest on an airport appropriate case for a PakiT..and is that with or without a rack? I saw Paulk's video using a Sammy case but I think that is larger than 62" by a few. This issue has been keeping from buying one for two day trips... getting to starting point via American Airlines.

@@davidpagel829I have no experience with luggage for carrying the PakiT. I've used it exclusively in the USA so far, with the backpack for a carrying case, stored in the rear of my pickup truck during distance travel. My wife bought us a small travel trailer, so my dreams of solo international travel with a backpack bike have been thwarted! Good luck getting kitted out for checked bag-bike travel.
