As someone that was bothered by the change, this sounds nice enough to make me stop and check.

@@Alikaoz I agree that Higher isn't as naturally talented a narrator as Ryan, but he seems like such a wholesome and nice guy I wasn't bothered by it. And as the original comment said he's obviously been really receptive to the constructive criticism. Only thing that ever bothered me was the slightly slower cadence.

What happened to Ryan?

@@diegosvega He was doing a lot of work for the channel both narration & BTS and stepped back to focus on his 'real' fulltime job per Cal's twitter

play it on themselves? no, there are other ways to get shit in your graveyard. play it on other people? its quite uncommon but I've seen it in some mono color and two color decks in person that maybe don't have all their slots figured out (or refuse to play proxies). In general ONE card doing ONE thing to ONE person is not good enough in cEDH. the exceptions would be, Counterspells are usually used on cards 1 for 1 when someone would win with it, or used on cards that someone would generate many cards from, like a mystic remora or peer into the abyss. its more nuanced than that but its the general idea

He had his entire deck and infinite mana so I'm assuming he had quite a few counterspells as well

Because it didn't matter anyways, he had the win six ways from Sunday The deck runs Blue Sun's Zenith and Drown in Dreams. If a creature got removed, he could have just dumped the infinite mana into BSZ, redrawn it, and done it again. If that got countered, he still had DiD, plenty of counter magic, Noxious Revival, and not to mention Timetwister loops he could have used to get everything back just to do it again. And he could have done pretty much all of that on the stack in response to someone else's attempt to stop him. Once he was able to generate 'infinite' colored mana, there was basically no real way the other decks coulda stopped him. Hope this helps!

Nico here (not Nikko) - Wyatt called it...at that point I had other ways to win in 2nd main phase and all the counter/control magic in hand. GG at that point!

If you notice I was about to attack him with the elf but we all agreed to just have the fun and P the T to let him deck himself...especially after he did it to himself!

No he definitely misplayed. The best play would have been imprinting the chain of vapor as there were no stax decks at the table and keep the guardianship. Then turn 2 cast tymna. Turn 3 try to draw off tymna and have the fierce to potentially protect the win attempt. Using consult to try and find breach was also a bad play as he didn't have enough in grave to do anything with it that turn assuming everything went well for him anyway. It gets even worse if he already had the grasp before his draw for turn as he could have grasped to find the noxious revival and have another win attempt that doesn't require nuking your own deck.

I also just realized this was pretty much the first time playing the deck in paper against seasoned players. Twas a learning experience :)

@@TheGrifcannon22 I think he should have imprinted the chain of vapor and then played Tymna turn 2. He would have had fierce guardianship back-up on turn 3 for his oracle win attempt

He had no deck and minimal cards in hand and I had literally every answer in my hand with no max hand size due to the SGR, so it was a comical and devilish way to still win

It looks like the plan was to noxious revive Thassa's Oracle on upkeep, draw it, cast it, and win upon resolution with an empty library. My guess for the timing choice is that doing it any time before Pako attacked gets Thoracle exiled. If he does it on the end of Zack's turn, maybe Nikko holds up more interaction. He was in a tough spot either way.

the only way to live one more turn and maybe win was to not deck. so i had to put a card in my library. i got noxious revival with grasp to put thoracle on top. spell pierce stopped me from casting thoracle that turn. i cast the card with life so i just had to do it sometime before my draw step

Lol, he could just generate infinite colourless mana with the monolith alone, no need to put treasures into it, how do you think he made the treasures in the first place?

I really had to deal with the Chains of M first otherwise drawing my whole deck wouldn't have really worked, so needed to use treasure vault with monolith to get the infinite treasures to activate kinnan...I knew I needed/wanted the Tidespout Tyrant (now a Hullbreaker Horror) to bounce the Chains, just got lucky that it was the third activation instead of going through the other 12ish creatures in the deck. After Chains was bounced I was free to draw the deck and go for the win using all the colorless from monolith and the billions of treasures

You don't ever cast Consultation with Oracle on the stack. You wait until Oracle's ETB is on the stack. Thus, it would have been too late to counter the Oracle if he waited.

He probably countered the oracle because he wanted the extra Mana off the Mana Drain. Otherwise yeah it's better to counter the consult with oracles ability on the stack
