Pakt has partnered with Chase Reeves to create a backpack, based on what they learned from their famous travel duffel. In case you don't know who either of these names are, allow me to elaborate: Chase Reeves is one of the top backpack reviewers on RU-vid, and PAKT is a company that makes extremely durable travel gear. With their experiences combined, it comes as no surprise that this is one hell of a backpack, in fact, we found it difficult to find a spot of criticism... For us, the weight of the pack and the hardness of the shoulder straps were the only things we could pick out, but that's really just a matter of preference.
As promised: PAKT travel Duffel review can be found here:

I really liked this review thank you! I came across Pakt via another youtuber who is a minimalist, and I am seriously considering buying this backpack! I love the khaki colour and I think the clamshell opening is really unique & useful (versus reaching all the way down into the bottom of a standard backpack to get to your stuff) and I love the addition of the multifunctional fanny pack...they are so expensive though and shipping to the UK is $50, but I appreciate this video and will probably invest in it 👍🙏🙂

Hello there, thank you for the review. I appreciate your manner of direction when It comes to your review process. This video convinced me to give this bag a try, while I don't travel, I've been in the market for a good backpack with a decent level of interior organization, that's not too big or over-engineered to be used casually on a college campus or as a daily travel pack, but regardless has the durability and space to be used on 1 to 2-day trips. For my purposes, I think this backpack should serve me well🤔

Great review, I have this bag and it’s my second favorite. GR2, Pakt, Nomatic travel pack is how I have them ranked IMO. The thing that annoys me about the pakt is the depth on the laptop side is shallower than the mesh. Noticeably. On the mesh side that internal pocket at the top drives me insane, I’m a pouch guy and don’t need one fixed inside. I found myself using it for receipts or folded up docs. With this bag you need to pack according to the bag, not your normal set up. For example the PD packing cube only fits on the mesh side, not the laptop side. So I switch that cube out for a thinner one when using this pack. Once I switched all my pouches to the Nite Ize runoffs and packing cube the above issue is solved. Outside of my Goruck GR2 34l this Pakt backpack comes in second easily. Anyone have the able carry max and love it?

A few other backpacks take the split in the middle design that creates two 15-17 litre compartments - Tortuga SetOut Divide (26-34 litres, $125). With a mesh full cover divider you might not need packing cubes. The downside for me was neither side comfortably took the camera/tech cube as it needed 12 cm depth. The Tortuga Setout (35litre, $125 July 2021) has one large compartment with the "lid" having mesh zipped pockets. So you can fit some bulky shoes or boots and a larger camera cube. If your packing includes a suit, collared shirts, ties etc I think you need 40 litres even if then you cinch it down a bit afterwards. The internal flight I took in India had a 7kg limit. They didn't weigh my carry on back pack and.at 10 litres it isn't large but was heavier than the backpack with my clothes including a blazer for a wedding. Pakt and Nomadic have excellent organisation but need you to pack their way. Minimal and GoRuck just provide an open space to throw packing cubes in. There are heavier bags but they are also larger capacity. Peak Design 2050g, Pakt backpack 2045g, Digital Nomad 1850g, Black Ember V4 Modular 1800g. Tortuga Setout Divide 1735g, Tortuga Setout 1545g.

Great reveiw, really helped me make my decision which unfortunately was no.. Really great pack but I do feel like they missed out on some really important details... -More space for the chest strap(I'm a stout guy at 6'2)...finding a backpack when you have a big chest is always an issue. -Lack of water-resistant zippers...that seems like it should be standard especially at the price -I definitely prefer an easier accessible laptop compartment, especially since I'm always traveling..and 15 inches seems kinda small, my programming laptop is 17"... I like the concept but its missing some really important details...while providing seemingly superfluous others.. Any suggestions for any alternatives, that have a side pocket for water bottles or umbrellas that also have a hip strap?

Not much of a traveler but I'd like to be. My question is would this count as a personal bag being free or a carry on that you'll be charged for. If your paying for carry on why not get a little rolling suitcase instead. Do you have a recommendation for a bag that's big enough to carry 3 days of clothes while also travel as a personal (free) bag?
@Nomads.Nation
@Nomads.Nation 2 года назад
Thanks for the comment Daniel! The personal bag question is tough to answer cuz it 100% depends on the airline - they all have different policies. Backpacks are great because they give you more agility. Walking through cobbled streets in Europe? Getting on the back of a grab scooter in Vietnam? Need to walk from hostel to hostel in Peru? Truth be told, suitcases are great, but backpacks are seen as a better choice for younger/backpacking type travel. If I were to go on a weekend trip to a resort in the Maldives, I totally could see a suitcase being a better option. Also, this bag should fir your needs (depending on the airline)

Honestly, I'm still on the fence with this one... I like the design a lot. I like the Olive Color. The split clamshell opening is useful, but a 30 L pack at $295 seems really, really expensive. That's more expensive than Aer's and I think a good one bag travel backpack should probably be in the 35-40L range. My EDC pack is a North Face Surge. It's 31L and barely fits all my EDC gear.

The TSA Pocket is overrated, specially because it’s hard to access. The straps are a little too hard, and the sling is useful, but I use a day sling 2, so… no need for it. The waist straps makes the briefcase mode a little cumbersome. Aside from that, everything else in the bag is AMAZING. 3 trips with it and I love it more and more every time. P.S. The waterproof pocket is a game changer.

It's been quite the controversy since Chase Reeves declared YKK on a promo vid as well only to find out that they're not. From what my correspondence suggests in the past few weeks with PAKT, they haven't upgraded to YKK on the newer packs either. I love their design and crew but they seem quite adamant that YKK is not what one HAS to go with since there are other brands which make zippers that are as good (not sure I agree).

@@kjcl90 Haha I try! As the channel grows it's getting more challenging, but I'll keep it up as long as I can :)

For me, one big con is the poor access to the front pockets.

I have one. Was excited. Not functional for my travel. Great idea though. No use to me

I don't agree with lack of space, I can travel indefinitely with 30L AND I carry 2 laptops

me too, but this one feels a bit tight for a 30L. But totally agree, I've done 20L for a few weeks and it was awesome

@Aaron Radcliffe (Nomads Nation) Crossing fingers. I just ordered this Pakt travel pack in green, I used to just use DB 30L for multi-month stuff, hopefully this is better

@@WeiFinder I haven’t tested any DB products, but my hunch is that you’ll like this more. Let us know what you think of it after testing for a few weeks!

Good backpack but it cant beat the Aer travel 3. This backpack loses a lot of points for me in terms of build quality, usability and design. Its also more expensive than Aer. For me Aer is the gold standard.

I too would take the ATP3 over this
