Yes, but a) it's the PAL version which was coded for the PAL timing, so now certain things are wrong, like the battle timer b) the framerate isn't stable - it dips a lot below 60 FPS c) there's even more micro stuttering due to bad frame pacing.
In Italy most people had modified 50/60 hz PlayStation set so we used to play directly NTSC U/C and NTSC J games in 60hz, 60hz forced PAL games and copied games, to remove black borders and increase the speed. So most people didn't notice the differences.
I'm from Italy, and back in the day we modded the ps1 or used an emulator to play the NTSC version. This is for saying that even in the EU Playstation Classic, all games should be the NTSC version. PAL was a pain back in the 90s

Yeah being in New Zealand we always had PAL but i fully understand people with NTSC regions being pissed and right fully so once the hack is done hopefully can add a storage drive like on other classic consoles :).
It’s worse than that though. Because native PAL format ran at 50fps on a 50Hz TV, so the frame rate was smooth and consistent. Every frame was delivered at 50Hz. The PlayStation Classic is running 50fps on a 60Hz modern HDTV, so the display is actually running at 60Hz and dropping 10 frames a second. Which makes it look jittery, slow, and uneven. It’s much worse looking than the original PAL presentation.
I'm using a scart converter to HDMI on a original PlayStation so it's not really a fair test for the color palette also the scales aren't quite accurate either. but that being said I do like the visuals better using scart on the original PlayStation
I agree if you are used to the PAL format then you don't know any better. For me I rediscovered Tekken 2 and 3 a few years ago by playing the NTSC versions. They play so much better. All the PS1 games I currently have on my Pi are NTSC releases. For me the days of PAL limitations are over..but sadly not for anyone buying this piece of crap.
I played Tekken 3 back in the day in PAL. Back then there was no easy way to compare NTSC to PAL without traveling overseas, owning and using both an NTSC and PAL system wasn't cheap or easy to set up, and the internet wasn't as informative on such matters as it is now. I thought the PAL conversion was excellent for its time. It played at 50fps: Many PS1 games I later discovered ran at 60fps in NTSC but were down-converted to 25fps in PAL, so I don't think their conversion was too lazy. Tekken 3 was one of the must-have games for the PS1, and we all played it A LOT.
@@WiremuTeKani Played both versions I don't remember how , but I'm pretty sure we had pirated versions both pal and ntsc. When switching from NTSC to PAL specifically in tekken it felt like you were playing at half speed. On higher level It was basically pointless to play in Pal as every single move was too easy to read.
In the late '90s, most PAL TVs accepted an NTSC signal using an RGB scart cable we essentially got gimped versions because of that one person that still had a TV with only RF 😂
We always have to wait longer in PAL countries to get the games. There were no ''simultaneous releases'' back then. The PAL versions would sometimes have extra content. Like new music or even a new character and vehicles. But visually the NTSC looks better.
They probably just used some shit emulator and went with it, not knowing it had PAL versions on it, or like many speculate, Sony might have sourced this project out to some shit developer to make. It sure is lacking any Sony quality, that's for sure. It's garbage all the way through.
doesn't even matter about regions for me and i'm british, just playing games at 60hz vs 50hz feels so much better for me, when i was playing tekken 3 i had a dreamcast and used bleem and an ntsc tekken 3 and didn't care for the pal copy, also previous to that i was a virtua fighter and dead or alive fan where the fighting was much more comfortable than tekken 3
It never had anything to do with games, but how CRT TVs were made. European TVs output at 50hz instead of 60. 50 is 83.333% of 60, ergo European games ran at -17% speed. PS1 games however, ran slower but the music ran at correct speed. Unlike previous consoles.
But ironically most Pal CRTs accept an NTSC signal using RGB Scart... So essentially we got gimped versions because of a handful of people. Still having TVs with RF only 😢😂
@@nintendo1889x because the NTSC versions are usually English only. The European versions usually have multiple languages and make them more universal. Still lazy to not have the option available, or for the option to buy the right version. Either way, theres a method to change the settings for that now. You just need a keyboard.
NTSC is hands down the inferior format for colour, and for resolution. Games weren't even a faint idea of something to be considered when these standards were formed. The only unfortunate thing is developers in Japan rarely optimised their games for this, and they just ran at a lower frame rate in PAL territories. This is largely an issue that only effects consoles, and consoles were much less popular in PAL regions than various home computers, such as the Spectrum, C64, Amiga, and Atari ST series, so it's not something European and Australian gamers ever really cared about.

No, they don't, PSX games never used 576i. Sorry, pal, but 18% slower speed isn't worth it. The games run like crap, don't defend Sony's stupid decision to include PAL.
I'm curious to see side by side comparisons of the PS Classic and a PAL PSX, because all of the footage I'm seeing just feels slower than I remember, from playing the PAL versions myself. I'm convinced the PS Classic is exacerbating this problem with its own crap performance.
I do remember PAL Tekken 2 was a slow mess of a game. I also thought PAL Tekken 3 performed a lot better. But many games were indeed affected. Recently I noticed how much quicker NTSC Final fantasy VII plays over its PAL counterpart.
@@RJ-cq8dd Tekken 2 was absolutely a slow mess. Tekken 3 was my first Tekken game, and I just couldn't deal with Tekken 2's performance. Still, I feel sure the PS Classic is underperforming, running the PAL games even slower than they should.
I genuinely hope Sony re-release the PlayStation Classic with an updated expanded list of games and make them NTSC. Cause I grew up on PlayStation and I want to support Sony in doing things like this but not when they mess it up so badly. Maybe if the PS2 Classic ever comes out they'll rectify it.
the only game on this list that im not bothered by being the PAL version is oddworld because Japan censored the game in a couple areas so the pal version is the better version in that respect does anyone know of a hack that put the uncensored content into the NTSC version though if so Id rather play it that way.
CDRomance.com might be worth a look. They have English-patched roms for many NTSC-J games (albeit, the website is mainly focused on PSP they're slowly expanding to PS1, SNES and other consoles), so if what you're looking for exists, it could be there.
I have a ps3, so no need for the classic. Anyways there is only a small amount of 2d cartoons worth playing. Those old low res melting polygons are for the birds.
only if you have a 200$ walmart pc, i just noticed the PAL and NTSC issue and right now deleted everything i have of PAL. Such a scam, feels like low performance version, playing on 144hz seing it 50hz is painnnn
You can get that 60fps up to 120 if you use frame generation. I do it with Lossless Scaling on Steam, it works for all emulators if you are willing to understand how to get it working. It does also work to get 30fps games up to 60fps @@DoomBapBellic
why does the ps1 look better than the classic? wow really dropped the ball. That's one thing you can say about nintendo, they don't half heart their projects like others do.
PAL has a higher resolution but slower refresh rate. Games don't make use of the higher resolution they just add letterboxing or just stretch the image, so you get no benefit from PAL and only the drawback of being slower.

There was no logical reason they used these versions. And in case you haven't noticed, he isn't the only one complaining about it. A lot of people are upset they paid so much for this only for it to be completely lackluster. If it was $50 then it wouldn't be so bad. I got myself a psp for $30 and I already have a lot of ps1 games purchased from the ps store that I can play and have more to purchase as well for way less than the cost of that ps1 classic and they all run way better.
