Palace of the Republic - From the laying of the foundation stone to the topping out ceremony 

It has long since been dismantled and almost forgotten. The Palace of the Republic once dominated the city center of Berlin, right next to the television tower. It all began with the laying of the foundation stone on November 2nd, 1973 and ended with the topping-out ceremony on the anniversary of the German Democratic Republic on October 7th, 1974. The palace finally opened its doors in 1976. In this video you can see the construction progress in 1974.
