This spicy tuna crispy rice recipe will blow your mind! The patty consists of cauliflower rice and potato so it gives off a rice like texture that will leave you speechless. Homemade spicy tuna is an absolute gamechanger and the combo will have you be #1 at your next dinner party.
Recipe is below
Spicy Tuna
1 lb blue fin tuna, chopped up
3 tbsp mayo
2 tbsp sriracha
2 tbsp scallion, finely sliced
1 tbsp lime juice
1 tbsp coconut aminos
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp salt
STEPS:
Add all ingredients to a bowl and mix up.
Crispy "Rice" Patties
4 cups riced cauliflower, medium sized cauliflower
4 cups shredded potato, 2 medium russet potatoes
1 beaten egg
2/3 cup potato starch
1/4 cup + 1 tbsp arrowroot powder
1/4 cup modified tapioca starch
2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp onion powder, garlic powder, pepper
STEPS:
Start by cutting the cauliflower into florets then add to a food processor and pulse to create a rice like texture. If you don't have one, just cut by hand. Add 4 cups of the cauliflower rice to a sheet tray and drizzle with 2 tbsp olive oil. Sprinkle with 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp of pepper, and 1/8 tsp of white pepper. Mix up then bake at 400 for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and add to a large bowl. Let this cool.
Grab 2 medium russet potatoes and peel then grate. Measure out 4 cups and immediately add to a pot with water in it so the potatoes don't turn brown. Cover the potatoes by one inch with the water and let this come up to a simmer. Once it starts to simmer, cook for 5 minutes stirring often. Drain the potatoes when the time is up and rinse with cool water. Add to a clean towel then squeeze all of the moisture out of the potatoes. Add shredded potato to the bowl with the cauliflower rice.
Add in the 1 beaten egg, 2/3 cup potato starch, 1/4 cup + 1 tbsp arrowroot powder, 1/4 cup modified tapioca starch, 2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp onion powder, garlic powder, and pepper. Mix up with your hands to ensure everything is incorporated. Grab a golfball sized amount and form into ball then work into a patty. Add this to a sheet tray with wax paper or parchment. Form all of the patties then freeze them for 3 hours up to overnight. You want these to be rock hard before frying.
Grab a 4 qt dutch oven or large cast iron pan. Add in 2 cups of Avocado oil and heat to 370 degrees. Add in a few patties at a time so that you dont overcrowd the pan. Cook for 3-4 minutes per side or until golden on both sides. Since these are frozen, they will bring down the oil temperature each time so try to keep your oil above 350 for the whole time you are frying them.
Grab the patties and top with a nice scoop of the tuna mixture. Top with a serrano pepper slice if you want a little extra heat and enjoy!
