Is it safe to visit these cities with all the Mafias ruling there? I hear the Nigerians mafias are also ruling in Parlemo. This is simply questions based on what we read.
Palermo is a safe city, then of course beware of the pickpockets in the touristy areas: an advice I would give you even if you wanted to visit Paris or Rome. The years of homicides and massacres are long gone. You are tourist, you're not going to open a business so I don't understand why you fear the mafia. Some people have seen too many Hollywood movies and don't know how mafia works.
they are very a very mixed population, and they know it and recognise it, much like the americas north and south. And, similarly to there, the upper classes/nobles are historically more northern european looking (because of the conquering norman-french and then spanish-Bourbon nobility). It's a like a microcosm of the world.
