Corey is so well spoken. The way he explained George and Charlotte’s love story made me tear up 🥺. “It’s the first time George sees someone being themselves. First time Charlotte sees that. And it’s the first time that they experience being seen as well”. Damn, that’s so powerful.

I'm obsessed with them! And i can relate with India so much like shes 21 and I'm 22, and what she said about find yourself , find what you like to do or your place in the world reminds me that I'm not alone, I'm not the only one who is struggling with self-esteem and be a black woman in society. PS: Corey mylchreest really is a bonus WHAT A MAN he's funny, gorgeous, kind and talented I'm in love.

This is probably my favorite interview with them. The topics touched upon were so insightful, & I loved hearing their experiences. What India said at 33:43 was so significant in that it truly is a universal thing that black people experience, as sad as it can be to truly dive into why it's also a powerful feeling to lean into with each other. Great & insightful interview. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is really a great series. It's fiction, obviously, but they did a fantastic job of telling the stories of mental illness, friendship, race, & class in the Georgian era, where it could be authentic then & definitely is today, all the while telling this love story. A job well done; they absolutely killed it. 👏🏾💕

"We are writing into history that which has been erased." And that is it in a nutshell. There is so much that we don't know about our people because it's been hidden from us for some reason. So when you identify with a certain character it is because we have been these characters. We have been brought up to believe that we cannot be this but now we're finding we were and are this. Shonda Rimes knows our hearts and writes thus. It is extraordinary .

But do not fall into the mind set that who you were meant to be might not show up until later on in life...and that is the new thing that is happening which would be called "you have arrived" you met who you were to be years ago but it took years to become that person! So. yes you do change a lot from then to now but when you made the changes again and again it might not have been due to your wanting to but for survival and now you can do it as your heart and mind have always wanted your young self to be. But your older now! So do not fall into that continued change stuff becaue you might just do a 360 instead of a 180 degree turn to find who you really were meant to be!- to the young 21 year old Charlotte actor! I LOVE this series best of all and have watched it multiple times. This interview was a love fest, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I would like to have heard not only praise but also look at the series critically. I would like to ask Shonda why the two most influential, dark-skinned male, aristocratic, wealthy men are portrayed as negative stereo types. The Duke's father was abusive, dismissive, scary & mean. Lord Danbury was reminiscent of Black Face and was made up to be blacker than he is in real life in the Vaudville tradition of portraying black characters in clown like cartoonish ways. I learned so much from this interview but a full 360° degree deep dive would have been even more beneficial.
@beatrice2236
@beatrice2236 Год назад
Yes I have posted this myself in various places because like you I think you can enjoy the series but have this question especially in this series. In such an otherwise intelligent and emotionally relevant portrayal of other characters there was no reason to have this one look like a buffoon. It was very distracting because everything else was well done. I personally also think the hair gets way too outrageous to where it also becomes almost comical.
@yubantwo2086
@yubantwo2086 Год назад
@Beatrice2 2 On my second viewing, Lord D's makeup in scenes when he was most idiotic and abusive, was reminiscent of Blackface in the Vaudeville style in which even Black performers were forced to put black shoe polish on their skin and have bright red lips and wild & wooly hair ( Lord D. had a very red tongue and the whole nasty bit of him slurping out his dentures after assaulting his wife added to that portrayal) to make their characters clowns laughable for the audience. It was demeaning and humiliating to Black people in general and to the individual performers. Even Lady D's makeup at the opera and a Danbury nanny in a short scene also had a makeup mishaps. Even in Scandal, Washington's character, when being portrayed as a professional, had bone straight hair. Being herself on vacation as an adultress, she was portrayed with natural hair. There are more examples of perpetuating Black negative stereotypes that would be bad enough when white producers are telling the story, but Shondaland doing so is inexcusable. I'm a retired opera singer and would object when hair and makeup were humiliating. In fact, I insisted on doing my own makeup and was involved in decisions for my characters' appearance on stage. I am baffled and am frankly disappointed about an otherwise is a stellar production.
@tgc228
@tgc228 Год назад
Honestly, I loved the show but I have a real problem with how Shonda generally portrays blk ppl who are darker than a brown paper bag. She seems to have a real problem leading them the same grace and happy endings that their lighter skinned counterparts receive. The men are abusive - hearing her gush about Agatha's love for Lord Danbury "as a blk man" made me want to punch something. As for the women, Lady Danbury goes from abused wife who must protect her husband to protect herself, to mistress (she seems to love this role for blk woman - looking at you Scandal) to prickly old widow. There is little room in Agatha's story for gentleness or reciprocated love and even her "happy ending" is munted by loneliness. As I said, I love the show but I wish that the dark skinned characters had the same access to stunningly happy and romantic endings
@yubantwo2086
@yubantwo2086 Год назад
@TGC22 I agree with you completely. In this interview, Shonda called Lord D. a "jerk." She made him out to be far worse than a jerk (like the Duke's father portrayed as an evil, heartless, abusive, mean man with no redeeming qualities). Clearly, these are Shonda"s fantasies for dark skinned characters, however, she is dangerously perpetuating negative stereotypes, and when a Black person hates on other Black people, racists are happy campers and feel absolved to do the same without remorse. Shonda, in the meantime, is being hailed for being inclusive and "color blind."
@beatrice2236
@beatrice2236 Год назад
@TGC22 I don't watch Shonda shows like that and in fact this is the 1st Bridgerton show that I have watched but I agree with you about the happy ending. Even saying that these are fictional not real, then why is it that's a black female lead is the one getting the nontraditional happy ending where she is essentially about to be a caregiver? Why not focus more on the times when lucid and they did have some happiness 😂 As a story it did make me feel and I did appreciate the mental health aspects and other things but the only episode of the original Bridgerton I saw was one with the dark skinned black man being mean and cruel. So after seeing this I was like what???j

43:50 is this out of love, tho? :/ or is this sentiment just reinforcing that your natural hair and natural beauty are not enough? is the message not that you’re not “presentable” and you’re not fitting within eurocentric beauty standards? it’s subtly and overtly telling you to feel shame and to be embarrassed about the way your hair naturally grows out of your head. i wouldn’t call that love. :(

We now realize how problematic that concept was, but at the time, they thought they were helping us fit into a world that refused to acknowledge our natural beauty.

Back them it would definitely have been said with good intention but only because mainstream society’s perception of acceptable/presentable was very eurocentric which made people of other races feel like they had to adapt and change themselves to fit into that box for the common narrative☹️
