How I developed something that sounds like a stutter, but isn't one after my issues with aphasia and various cognitive losses. It appears that the term for this particular speech issue is "palilalia".

I wonder if palilalia is in the same spectrum as when I'll say, "I- I don't get it." I don't initially know what words are coming after "I". This is a stretch, but I wonder if it's in the neighborhood of having to repeat the preceding bit of music in order to recover from an error or interruption while playing.

It sounds similar. I think part of it is a matter of degree. When my palilalia was really bad, I was barely able to communicate and only very slowly. Also, it is partly that my primary mode of thinking is internal monologue. I was used to thinking in words, which not everyone does. So, before I became ill, talking was just thinking out loud. It wasn't significantly different (other than some degree of censorship/tact applied as needed), and when I had the issues, my ability to think was badly disrupted. Part of it is the internal feel. It feels so much like I am struggling to push my brain to work and scrabbling to keep my thoughts going. But, at this point, usually it's so minor that it sounds pretty similar to basic filler usage like putting in an "um" or a "like" while the brain is managing to speak. I did that too before I became ill, but it doesn't feel like my brain is grinding to a halt when I do that.
