Reminders for the quickshots that are swift to spew catastrophe: 0) This is a good track, a little bare bones for their catalogue. Won't stand out but still good. Production doesn't help it too much, tones are kinda muddied. 1) This is a single for Adult Swim. 2) This doesn't even sound that much like Heartless which was a great Metal album btw. 3) They're still on Profound Lore, don't blame this change of style on big bad Nuclear Blast (which handles their EU distribution). 4) Some of the more interesting instrumental bits are kinda buried beneath a sloppy production job. 5) If you think this sound like Stoner you might want to listen to Sleep's Holy Mountain and Welcome to Sky Valley again. 6) Fear and Fury had already displayed this style if you think about it. PS: Sorrows is still their best effort. But that's just me. PS2: Just don't go thinking that really great acts like Pallbearer won't adjust their sound. By the time they went into the studio to produce Heartless the ultra heavy doom thing was getting repetitive and Pallbearer, in Heartless, sounded like they wanted to get away from that fad and dialed down the monolithic sounding chords in favor of more pronounced and bloated guitar leads which was a nice change of pace imo. PS3: Now compare this to what happened to Electric Wizard. Electric Wizard never changed their style gradually like Pallbearer is doing, they just kept with their shtick and now they're forced to continually rehash their style like their last album which is a watered down cover of themselves with an extra serving of badly done 70s rock.

Im glad im not alone in being a bit disappointed, i cant count how many times i played Sorrow and Extinction/Foundations of Burden, but Heartless and this, nothing is really memorable or exciting, plus it seems like they completely dropped the theme the first 2 albums shared? with the white Grim Reaper on the album cover? idk
@packardblackproductions5904
@packardblackproductions5904 6 лет назад
I remember how big of a deal Heartless was when it dropped, and people were on about it in all the various doom groups on fb. I listened to it once and just thought, "this is REALLY mediocre. Like... if you didn't already like Pallbearer, there is no way anyone would give a shit about this. People post homebrew demos of better shit than this every day, and get like 10 plays. Meanwhile, this extra average LP is the biggest 'doom' release right now?"
@alpinoterran
@alpinoterran 6 лет назад
Completely dropped the theme? Come on man you're better than that. They're still writing sad and heavy songs with the same sense of melody of the first 2 albums. But now these ideas are used for another style of Doom Metal that's less focused on atmospherics and heaviness and more focused on more traditional metal and rock dynamics. This is not my favorite song from them by far but Heartless was a honorable and peculiar effort with it's progressive, bloated (in a good way) leanings even if not as good as Sorrows (but probably as good as Foundations)
