This is part 2 is a series I am doing on tropical plants and trees. Last video, we talked about Foxtail Palms. In this video, I walk through the neighborhood and explain what palms we are seeing as well as the good and the bad about the ones we find in the yards. I have 3 more videos in the works: Phoenix palms, Washingtonia palms and unusual palms. Stick around & subscribe.
BTW- Please check out my other channel: Jupiter Inlet Boats and subscribe. It's a new channel and it takes a lot of time and effort to film the boats so I would appreciate the support.

What a great video! I'm a plant enthusiast living in Canada and I know a lot about Northern trees. I've been in love with Florida and specifically it's palm trees since I was a child. Thank you for the tour and the ID's and the background info on each species. I look very forward to seeing more videos from you and learning more about Floridas plants!

Palms are my favorite tree, but those yards need other kinds of tropical trees to accompany them. Perhaps the Royal Poinciana, African Tulip, Jacaranda, Rainbow Eucalyptus, Rubber Tree, banyan, and the list goes on about colorful and tropical trees that should be planted and covered as well !

Hi Richard, thanks for the interesting video. I'm down in New Zealand and have 3 Washingtonias, 3 triple Bangalows, 3 Queens, a Chinese fan palm, a Nikau, and one other (can't remember the name), Also there was obviously a Phoenix palm growing at one stage way back, which has been removed (propagation of Phoenix palms is banned in NZ, but existing ones can only be moved within your property, as they can be invasive to our native bush) and I have seedlings popping up all over which need removing, . I live on a coastal area north of Auckland, and the main road is lined on one side with 40ft+ tall Washingtonias, which look great. If I had the room I'd grow more palms, as they really suit a coastal area.

Great video Richard. That was a huge Bismarckia. There are some decent size ones here in San Diego but usually not as tall as that one. The dypsis lutescens probably grow slower here along with many other palms due to the climate in Southern California. My grandfather has a rare palm and African cycad garden with many mature palms that he planted after World War 2. He passed away about 12 years ago but his garden is known amongst all the palm guru's. He has a Livistona chinensis with two heads that is gigantic and splits into a perfect V shape. He also has a gigantic Roystonea Regia which you don't see too much in San Diego. There also is pritchardia, parajubaea, Jubaea chilensis, Brahea Armada, butia capitata, which some are the tallest I have ever seen with the skirts attached on two of the Armadas with philodendron wrapping around the skirts. One of the most finicky palms he has is the Acoeloraphe wrightii or paurotis palm. It grows better in Florida where it is native like you said or has more moisture. I soak those a lot with the hose and have lost a few on occasion out of the clump if you don't finesse them. He also has a lot of Sabal's. If you are ever in San Diego for any reason you can contact me on here and I will show you the garden. African cycads were his main love amongst palms. I think he fell in love with palms during World War 2 being in the South Pacific and Fiji and also he was at Pearl Harbor.

Thanks for watching. One of the big mistakes people make with landscape plants, whether palms or other trees, if they fail to take into account the mature size. Be sure to give your plants and trees adequate room to mature or you may be forced to remove them later. Thanks for commenting and there are more videos coming stay tuned
