Whats the point of this device?

First we got a smart watch to use with our phone, now we got a smart phone to use with our phone?

so, we've reached the point where the phone gets a phone.. fail.

Who would need this? And $350? Why?

I absolutely love that Palm is back but this is pointless... a phone for your phone

I would've considered buying this had it been a standalone phone.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever seen in my life. A portable phone that accompanies your already portable phone...

Looks pretty cool. But I don't see the market for this since you already need a bigger phone to pair it with.

Carry a smartphone for your smartphone? Isn't that exactly what a smartwatch is for? It's too expensive at $350 and a wearable is a much better option.

Yup we're living in the Matrix...a phone for ur phone..next a laptop for ur laptop, tv for ur tv....as I'm writing this I noticed some of this stuff already exist. Life is becoming that "don't talk to me or my son" meme.

Amazing Product!!!!!.....for 2008

I do most of this with an old phone, wi-fi/bluetooth connected, but with no SIM. At 4", it's a little too big for just MP3, so I have a few Play Store apps on it. It's running Kit Kat, and nowhere near as quick as this new Palm. Does it double as a powerbank?

It's for an extremely niche use case. So if you use it as a weekend or outing phone, for example, you get a phone with inferior cameras to your main phone and much slower specs. You're paying $350 plus $10/month to not use your main phone. I don't get it.

Palm tried the "phone companion" thing with the Foleo back in 2007. I don't understand why they'd think they'd have more success with it in 2018. If they wanted to release a small phone companion, they should've put a wristband on it and called it a smartwatch. Nobody wants a mini phone that can't even serve as a standalone phone, but costs $350. _Maybe_ you'd have buyers at $50 or even $99 for something like this, but it's an insult to try and sell it for $350.

There IS a market for these small minimalistic phones but they're missing this market completely.

what? I was literally thinking "tiny phone" how nice for people who don't want a giant phone...but you still need another phone...and another data plan. So if you're in the market for 2 phones, but you want that second phone to be limited in what it can do, PALM has got you covered. Why can't they just strive to be the best small phone on the market?

Looks like a great smartphone. Except it can't be used as a smartphone???? Why build this? It has a sim tray, but cannot work as a smartphone. Why would anyone want to carry 2 phones?

This shouldn't make me angry, but it does a little. Here's the thing... Remember about 5 or so years ago when a normal phone (even a flagship) was small enough to easily carry with you? Back then you could buy a 7" or so tablet for times when you wanted something a little bit bigger. This new use scenario seems so backwards that it makes my head hurt.

If this was $250, and it didn't need my primary phone, I would buy it. I miss smaller phones.

Ok , I work for Verizon and see this as an option for people who have spent alot of money on their primary device to have one with the same number to take instead of bringing it and the possibility of Breaking it , it being damaged by water while at the beach, amusement park, movies, vacationing , because anyone that travels depending how far, your gonna plug it in when you arrive, now the other way around you have a back up if something does happen to your device and your good till you can have it repaired. This isn't for everyone especially if you have a smartwatch But I see alot of people who don't like things on their wrists, or wear watches. This is another niche device.

Basically the advent of the smartwatch has been a symptom of our phones becoming too multimedia focused, too invasive, too addicting. The smartwatch seems to be a near perfect response to this: Wear a device that can do all of the basics quite well but doesn't command an unhealthy amount of your attention. This device fills a niche that nobody wants filled. If you want a compact, basic phone to keep you focused on the real world when your outside of the house, then we should just start building smaller phones again. Or we should move into a world where we rely on wearable tech for communication in lieu of smartphones and use tablets/desktops/laptops for media consumption and work. If I could have an LTE plan that covered an Apple Watch and an iPad pro instead of having a smartphone, that would make a lot more sense to me than this thing does.

I would have loved to be in the boardroom when this was pitched, "So... it's a phone, for your phone". Then everyone cheered, "BRILLIANT!"? This might be best example how group-think is a HORRIBLE thing.

I bought mine early in March, 2019 for $200 US from Verizon. The best thing about it is that I have it with me always, in my front pocket. I couldn't say that about my much larger, Motorola Z2 Force cellphone. I was always concerned about bending my Z2 if I sat down with it in my pocket.

Could this be rooted?

For this concept to work it needs to be even smaller. Needed to be iPod Touch level thin. Just strip out everything bar the screen, chipset and bluetooth.

Does this have nfc?

For a second I was like, I need that, then I noticed it's pretty useless and can't perform basic tasks on its own.🤦

2018 when you need a small phone for your big phone

I have been looking for a really small smartphone so I could get my Dad to give up his regular flip phone. He will not switch unless the phone is as small as his flip phone. I was all excited when I first saw this title of this video, but then my dreams were dashed. This new Palm is just a companion to your existing Smartphone, not a smartphone by itself, it costs way too much @$350 and on top of that you have to pay $10/m to use it. Who ever came up with this idea was not thinking.

If only t had headphone jack, would hav gotten t use it as my music player but now, it don't think of acquiring it.

What’s insane is 11 years ago this is what was standard for regular phones like the original iPhone

Everyone is saying that smartphones today are getting too big, the Palm is like ‘how about we give you another phone like device to work with your big ass phone, you know, so that it can make it even worse for you.’

So a small screen to use instead of your large screen phone while carrying an extra device?

I get the idea, but there's no market for this lol. Smart watches already show texts, makes calls and other things. If you wanted to browse, then you'll be popping your phone out anyway.

This thing is awesome! You all are missing the point! Imagine you're wanting to go on a run or to the gym or working outdoors and don't want a huge phone in your pocket and still want the ability to make and receive calls AND take a pic of something pretty or a selfie while doing those things. You can't with a watch cuz there's no camera and texts stuck on a watch. Enter the Palm niche. You can hardly feel this thing in your pocket and the texting on it is actually pretty easy. It's so small and light it's very freeing. Go out on the town and take all the pics you want, but without having to stuff a huge phone in your skinny Jean's or your bra. Lol Theres definitely many people who would love this product.
