Palm oil is the cheapest vegetable oil and has high saturated fat which is not good for health. You can check the description on many package snacks like Lays and Bingo angles etc they all use palm oil many doctors have advised to avoid eating such products as it is causing obesity and heart disease.
Oil palm is 5 to 10 times more productive than other oils, so it is cheaper. It has higher saturated fat than most oils except lard and coconut oil. And no, palm oil does not cause obesity and heart disease. However unsaturated oils such as corn, soy, rapeseed, etc are less stable and are hydrogenated to prolong their shelf life. The hygrogenation process produces trans fat in the oils. A diet laden with trans fat increases the risk of heart disease. Some countries impose mandatory limit on trans fat due to health concern.
