Great video! Being in the industry over 20 years you don't come across too many palm tree climbing videos as informative as this one!

If every tree guy spent thus much time on safety. It would be great. No one would ever get hurt. Because no one would be doing any production cutting....DAMN.

Thank you for this video! I have been in my house for 10 years, when I first moved in I could reach the top of my palm trees with and extension ladder now they are just out of reach, i was researching proper climbing gear and safety...

Great explaination. After watching 100's of videos and many different tools and techniques, I have found this video attaching the Buckingham "sqeeze" saver to the climbing line paired w the lanyard the safest technique IMO. Really grateful for this video. Thank you so much

Very good..... your saving lives ! A Climber that might have trimmed many Palms but one who has never felt the weight of the entire dead cluster give lose and come down over himself / herself, really might not have an idea of the weight / pressure it forces down on your body. Hundreds of pounds snatching down on you.... and your trapped in a bad way. To be honest...... more likely then not.... most climbers , if they have never seen it or heard of the whole thing letting lose and coming down...... they would not even think about this happening as there is so many other things in a palm job that can ruin your day.... or life.

Good information but frustrating to not be able to see close ups of the gear and the camera person missed vital shots to help link each sequence together. Seeing the line go over the canopy with the sling shot would of been a huge help in understanding how it settles into the crown. Thank you though for all your time and info into making this video.

Oh good gawd way toooooo much overkill. Oh wait a minute its a supply company who has an interest in selling as much as they can to as many as they can. So if you don't their tools and their techniques your evil. Your Evil.

awesome video. in my personal opinion 1st method is best in annual prunning. 3rd method works best , less chance of cutting ropes while trimming a skirt like that.
@nom5205
@nom5205 4 года назад
the danger here is to ensure that the climbing line has been positioned in the right spot in the canopy. It is very difficult to get a line in a secure spot of the canopy, simply because the palms are so tall, the spikes in the branch prevent the line from dropping in the center of the palm, and its difficult to accurately see what you are doing. Rather than this method, I would cut from below, but invent a tool that is wrapped around the trunk to prevent the dry stuff to descent the trunk and trap the worker. Move that tool up the trunk as you clear branches.

$4500 worth of equipment just to pull dead palm fronds out of a tree!
@matiascamprubi-soms7719
@matiascamprubi-soms7719 3 года назад
Is there any reason not to use that first method as a general access technique, not specifically just for palms? I’m thinking that this gives one the ease of setting up an SRS- not having to isolate a branch- with the benefit of being able to use the simple MRS, plus the added safety of a quick way to easily rescue the climber.

No. A little abrasion but nothing to hurt the tree permanently.

Re: First technique, I do not understand the risk taken with a single line pass over - seems too dangerous versus time/money for second line for fall protection with possible tear off on primary line.

very informative video, ive never worked in a palm tree, was curious as to how you tie into a palm. your climbing line would have to be dead center over the top of the tree.

Also the 3rd method seemed safer. First method seemed like it had to much friction when the rope is being pulled me knowing palm trees also have thorns. Also the chances of someone setting the palm tree rope right every single time with the launcher seems risky as well.

I want (literal) hands-on training with everything I watched in this video. From zero to hero. I contacted the company behind this video but got NO REPLY. Would writing here help me find someone that can point me the way? I'm willing to fly out and pay for a field training course. I'm specifically interested in palm trees. Not just any and all trees, if I can be that selective. Someone please reply.

can i use a 1/2 inch stable braid as the line that was used in this video to wrap on the portawrap in case of an emergency??
@MartinMorales-un8li
@MartinMorales-un8li 6 лет назад
Christopher Porcallo it's really hard to pass a 1/2 inch line through the base of the palm fronds, that's the reason why we are using smaller diameter.

Awesome demonstration! Question though.. could you comment on the system Martin was using to climb/descend? Couldn't really see in the video if it was a Petzl belay device or some friction hitch or what. Thanks a ton!
