I ride the final leg of my cross country and back again motorcycle adventure, waking up in Laughlin, NV and ending in the Urban Monk Shopestary.
This series follows me on my entire journey coast to coast across America from LA to Maine and back. Motocamping and staying in motels along the way I share a view of America that can only be found from behind the handlebars of a motorcycle.

Hey Monk. Just at short Thank you! for taking me with you across the USA. I must say that I have enjoyed it very much. You have inspired me to go on a small (a couple of overnighters) trip here in Denmark. But before that, I need to finish my GS 400 build, which you also inspired me to start building :)

Oh wonderful! I love hearing that. Thanks. Enjoy your overnighters! I've done those too and they can be very rewarding and calming to the soul.

Early start to avoid the heat is a trick I use as well. 80°f before sunrise is pretty much. Gorgeous views from the bike as sun went up! Perfect music for that footage 👌 I love riding through the desert landscape. Perhaps because I lived almost 15 years in Egypt 🇪🇬 I totally understand that "last leg emotions". That Ludlow Cafe was the perfect place to contemplate that topic. Thanks for letting me tag along on your fantabulous adventure! I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I recall you mentioned you lived in Egypt. I would love to see that part of world sometime, as well as Scandinavia. I appreciate your kind words and all the inspiration you gave me for this series. I'm so thankful I did it. Now I can spend some time catching up on your videos! They never disappoint.

"Sweet Lord have mercy..." : the lyrics of the song while the video had you riding the major highway near the end of your trip...your riding down the center line...I was amazed that someone didn't sideswipe you. Just goes to show that the Lord did have mercy on you...for that whole Trip in fact.

Same reply here, I am blessed. Though my skills are well honed too, which helps.

Very cool trip, I'm watching these in a random order great footage. In a week I will be picking up a 2008 650 Vstrom black like yours in Montana 4k on the clock and riding it 1200 miles home. I'm pumped for the trip as much as I am for the new to me Vee650. Thank you for this series as I get ready for my trip. Good to know the Rotella is working in the bike.

Rotella is all I've ever used, exclusively. Caveat, I change it frequently. Often before the OEM recommendation, but this practice has worked for me. And black is nice, but I sometimes call the color, "Good luck keeping me clean." 😄

Thank you! I need to do some maintenance videos and then would like to head up the west coast with my cameras, tent and sleeping bag. Family life is crazy busy right now though, so that trip will have to wait until summer.

I loved the adventure. Was looking for vids about the v strom , stumbled on your channel. When you said you were headed to J's I had to follow. I'm a Maine native and have been there many times. 62 and retired now and thinking about something like this myself , hence the search about proper bikes. Rode a lot years back but finally sold my 82 gs750t about 5 years ago. I'm thinking the V Strom might be the choice for me.

Oh fantastic! I won't say the V-Strom is the only good value out there, but I am sure glad I own the one I have. It's brought big fun and hasn't cost much to own compared to some other options out there. Thanks for watching! More V-Strom maintenance videos coming in the future here.

Hi there. Loving your channel. Started out with the Gs550 build and been hooked ever since! Watched the whole series on your epic road trip and thoroughly enjoyed it. Felt it gave a great insight Into the US (I’m in the Uk). Coincidentally, I’ve just finished reading another account of an epic trip in the saddle across part of the USA, but nearly 150 years before yours! Thoroughly recommend “A lady’s life in the Rocky Mountains” by Isabella Bird.

Oh thanks! I love books like that! May I recommend "Canoeing With The Cree" by Eric Severide. Hopefully you can get in UK.

He Urban Monk! i watched every episode and really enjoyed it. It was great watching America pass by and you have really showed me/us how interesting stuff there is to see. And how great riding and travelling is. I know that it takes a lot of effort and time to make video's like this so i really appreciate that you did (and the non-edited part). If anything You have at least inspired me to plan a trip like this (europe-side), hopefully in the near future. Thank you ! BTW: i didn't know that lane splitting was allowed in CA at such high speeds. I usually fall back in lane @50 km/u here in Holland.

Thanks! I will anxiously await your European tour series! I haven't been to Europe since 1984 and I was just a kid then. Generally the rule here is 5-10 mph speed differentiation between cars and bikes. California is a different driving culture than the rest of the US.

Hi Urban. Greetings from Ireland. Just finished watching your last video. Really appreciate bringing us on your trip with you. I'm envious. The only thing that would put me off touring the States are the restrictions on lane splitting! This is alien to me. Lane splitting is one of the few advantages to riding a bike in traffic. It's against my nature not to😃.....Thanks again...BTW I ride a 2003 first gen DL1000

@@fiachraocinneide2415 Thanks for watching! You might be interested to know the University of California Berkeley did a research study on lane-splitting (at the request of state lawmakers who were considering its legalization some years ago) and they concluded it it was statistically safer than not lane splitting. And the effects on traffic congestion are a no-brainer. Thanks again!

For a while, watching these "Palms, Pines, and Fishing Lines" videos, I thought you were divorced . As I said before, you are married to a good woman who gives you space to pursue your motorcycling hobby. You better be good to her and extend her some of that which she has extended to you.
