The excerpt used in this production is from the film "Ole Texas" shot by Charles Goodnight near Mulberry Creek on the J2 Ranch in 1916. Five of the Kiowa men shown on the old footage is Hunting Horse, Odlepauh, Rainy Mtn. Charley, Kiowa George, and Aunko. They were engaged in a mock Kiowa Sundance and a buffalo hunt.

If you like that and horse back riding I advise a trip to Bourne, TX. It’s on the second step right above San Antonio. The hill country is just as beautiful.

happy to return after a 4 year gap. got hurt and recovery took many years. finally returned today and bought a season pass once again. I was a regular, with 70+ trips. plan on resuming weekly or bi-weekly hikes. might not be able to run throughout the entire trail system like previous years but at least I'm able to hike, which might allow for more fun than blowing through the trails as fast as possible. tons of good memories yet to come. Thank you for the services. palo duro canyon always brings excellent experiences

My goodness! Can you just give it a rest? Got three words for you: Crow Creek Massacre! Look it up! Also look up how Comanche women castrated and scalped captives alive. How they used to torture captives by burying captives up to the chin, cutting their eye lids off and leaving them to fry in a full sun before they starve to death. Read an unbiased history book instead of playing video games all day long!

I dont think the comment was meant to stir up anything , I think it was just meant as part of another part of a history lesson perhaps.

No wonder the U.S./Texas exterminated the Indians and lied in treaties to get the land, it was so beautiful... Makes a lot of sense! The best part, it wasn't that long ago. So we can still give the land back and not get F%^*ed by karma and God might forgive you... 😉
@Red-hk9gb

@@elcidcampeador497 Give what a rest? I was just saying what happened here. I know what natives were capable of, I've done lots of research on my Kiowa ancestors and have read stories about how they treated some captives.

People usually go there for the solitude and since it's not highly visited, even before this COVID thing, you may not see another soul for a day or two depending on where you're camped. The most people I've ever seen there at one time is when the show "Texas" is being performed and even though the majority come to the park from outside for the performance and then leave the park after the performance. Doubt they're going to have the show this year though but check their website or call the park's office for confirmation.

Don't listen to Zeek M. If you don't want to go down into the canyon there is a scenic overlook near the park headquarters which is on the rim.

It's awesome to ride around on a mountain bike. Watch for rattlesnakes though that may be sunning themselves on the trail and don't stop if you notice you're running over one but pick up your feet from the pedals just in case. I ran one over when I lived in Arizona. Doesn't hurt them any, at least not to my knowledge. They just flatten out and then slither on their merry way.

Is this a great place for someone that is in a wheel chair? Handicap accessible?
@texasparksandwildlife
@texasparksandwildlife 8 лет назад
The trails are generally not accessible for wheelchairs. You can enjoy the park's scenic views from the roads. The CCC cabins and other park facilities are wheelchair accessible. For a list of parks with wheelchair-friendly trails and facilities, see tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/parks/things-to-do/wheelchair-accessibility-in-state-parks
