You are allowed to use any means necessary to summon help in an emergency.

This is why I carry around my radio in low to no cell service areas, even though I'm not licenced. Doesn't do me any favours sitting at home.

Why don't you get your license?

@@ubenpwned 1- the only time I ever plan on talking is when it's an emergency. 2- I find getting the licence to be a pain in the butt when item # 1 is in play. Especially since I live in Nunavut.

@@gamingwithlacks While I totally see your points and they are valid; I paid $35 for an online course that covers both technician and general, and it is $10 to take the test. Right now the license itself is free, so it'd be $45 or you to get your license and you don't need to leave your living room. The technican is pretty easy: I bought the course Tuesday and am taking the test this Sunday (yes, 6 days from start to finish), getting consistent 90s in the practice tests. There is no morse code, the math can be completely missed and you can still pass. It really isn't too bad at all.

Super cool to see the communication between the two in getting emergency services there.

I hate to be a dick but according to the FCC rules, communication was possibly by another vehicle with service. This guy wasn’t allowed to use the radio, he pretty much wanted his few min. of fame. Not trying to be a dick but please people get your license it’s not that hard. 73’s

What an idiotic thing to say. The rules clearly state that anyone can transmit in an emergency. That is what the frequencies do best. The guy was serious and professional as he called in for help. He was clearly distressed but remained composed. I doubt he was looking for fame. He even signed out to go help the guy.

Another vehicle didn't show up to render assistance until after his mayday call, going by context.

@@xtanon5540 You're probably right, however, I think this guy should've used his cellphone than transmitting a Mayday. But how knows maybe this guy doesn't have a cellphone.

Or maybe he didn't have a signal? In the mountains??
