Mau is literally just an Egyptian Mau which is an exotic breed of cat famous for its unique personality and appearance. Mau is pretty generic because the gold jewellery just screams ancient Egyptian fashion which makes sense.

The fire horse is just a Kirin. A lot of the monsters you placed on suspicious are from japanese mythology and folclore which Pokemon draws inspiration too as well which is also public domain

Now that i think of it, Meowth and Mau are 2 distinct ideas. Meowth is based on japanese Maneki neko, while Mau is meant to be a sort of "Egyptian cat"

That Celeray and Mantine comparison is not really fair. They're literally both just Manta's. Those are what manta rays look like. They aren't exactly ripping anything off.

Quivern defiently gave me reshiram influence. Frostallion and it's counter part has some glastrier and spectrier influenece. The silvally one also had arceus golden arch thing on its back just colored black, the cinnamon moth has some mothim influence, alpaca has pink virizon legs lol, green chipmunk has parichrisu vibes but wouldnt hold that against palword, gorirat gave me gorillaboom vibes, bushi has some mawile looks to it, cat witch has mismagius looks to it, paldadis and its counter part remind me of ceruledge and escavalier, surfent gave me quilava vibes, faleris has some corviknight influence to me. Reptyro has a terrakion look to it. Just some things things I thought I'd point out that this video missed to me. Forgive any errors on the palworld names I was just guessing how theyre spelled as I was going.

I actually really like the design of Pyrin as, from what I can tell, is based on 2 things: 1. The mythological beast Kirin. Its commonly depicted in East Asian culture and has a resemblance towards deer/horses. I would assume this is the "-in" in Pyrin. 2. Lu Bu/Red Hare. Pyrin's two long strands on the head seem to be an homage to the Chinese warrior Lu Bu from the Warring Kingdoms era, as he is commonly depicted with those same feathers/hairs protruding from his helmet. His iconic mount was a horse named Red Hare. Even Pyrin's paldeck entry lists the reference.

You can tell he got tired of putting the effort of researching designs later down the line and really kills the tier list completely from his own demotivation

Btw, the little weavile tooth is just a thing that happens in Japanese media a lot, not necessarily just that Pokémon

Cool video! I think Palworld will be legally safe and considered a parody. Just by giving it a different name and changing one single aspect about the design of a character makes it legally distinct OC based on a Pokemon. But it was cool seeing someone actually lay out the comparisons!

I agree with the majority of these tier rankings, but honestly, I feel like there ought to be a split for a tier of "you can't copyright something so generic". And also, a small category of "Wait no, this is a digimon instead." Doing detailed analysis of each pal like this individually makes me realize how many subconscious color schemes I've absorbed over the years and small design elements.

The two of those knight things are very close to the idea of Armarouge and Ceruledge to me, however.

I think "Fuack" is an onomatopoeia for an impact. Like "Thwack". The pal deck entry for them seems to indicate they like to body surf at high velocities, and the impacts from such can be lethal.

With the sheer amount of Pokémon that exist it would be interesting to see a challenge where artists try to design their own creatures and then see how many of them look like a ripoff of a Pokémon.

So I got some points on things you mentioned in your video. Mau is just an Egyptian cat bro. Nothing in similar detail to Meowth. However, Anubis is Lucario cosplaying as an Egyptian God card for the wrong series. Celeray is just water type Togekiss cross with a Mantine. But on its own, I'd say it is different enough. Tocotoco has similar colors to Xatu. But in terms of shape besides the yellow squares and 2 eyes on the front? I'd say it's a wacky pigeon with Xatu's color scheme and a mohawk. For Mozzarina, the horns and face look different. I also hate I had to look up cow udders as if I'm playing spot the difference with extra steps. Looks more like the cow from Barnyard. Lol. Hangyu looks more like an alternate evolution of Chingling if Nintendo told it to "Squad Up" and grew arms instead of a tail. Still original enough to avoid suspicion. Arsox is just Terrakion's cousin who came out the womb burning. Don't ask why. Dazzi is STRAIGHT RIPPING OFF Lakitu. Mad kappa! You could have said Lunaris looks more like Eve from Wall-E and I would of believed you. I still believe you on point with that Overwatch look-a-like. Warsect is if Heracross left Pokemon for Digimon. Menasting looks like a cross between Drapion and Ceruledge. But even then that’s a stretch. Paladius and Necromus is Ceruledge in Therian form. A knight with Sword and Shield or two lances makes sense logically speaking. And Frostallion/Noct is Glastrier and Spectrier, but in spirit with wings. Coincidence? I think not!! But that's just me, I wana hear from everybody about this game. I've never played it, but I've seen a lot through the drama and controversial videos people make. I wana play this game T~T. It one of them monster hunting sandbox adventure games that scratches that itch you've always wanted from a Pokemon Game.

The silliest part of all this is that many of the "too close for comfort" designs could've been further differentiated by just not copying the color scheme on top of similar design elements/inspiration.

Rayhound is based on Greyhounds. Which are the fastest dogs there are. They literally live to race and can get depression if they aren't allowed to. Fast things are often associated with electricity. That one belongs in the Same Idea tier at best.

I watched this video and I has a few opinions that I have on some of the pals 1:49 this looks like leave on mixed with skwovet 14:04 along with slowpokes face 14:20 it looks like a Murrow mixed with a durskull 17:01 it looks similar to purugly, not exact but similar 18:45 this is just an alohan vulpix mixed with glaceon 21:18 this is just maganuim standing, with the flower moved 22:10 drednaw mixed with bowser, genuinely liked this one tho This is only to my knowledge, feel free to correct me if I used the wrong Pokémon :]

Pyrin is actually based off of a Chinese mythological creature, called a Kirin it’s pretty much a lightning horse, but they use the prefix py as In pyro cause it’s pretty much a fire version if you look up a picture of how they’re described and how they’re drawn, it’s practically one-to-one no copyright

a ton of Pokémon were based on Yōkai (Japanese demon folklore) and are thus free to copy in concept as long as their appearance is different enough.

I'm glad this is an opinion and not a lawyer, because any school teacher who has an any knowledge of zoology, entomology, and mythology or any related field would shut you down with most or all of your higher ranked examples. I think it's also worth noting that Nintendo also doesn't have the copyright on most of its characters, as they were not legally distinct enough for that. Pokemon isn't an original idea itself. Nintendo did trademark a number of its designs though, but trademark had a different set of rules. You might also want to look into a type of common curve used in art a lot called a french curve, which has no copyright, its just too old. It's commonly used in anime hair. Additionally, if you take 2-5 things and mix and match parts from them its often enough to make the claim it's distinct. Lastly you defeated all of your evee arguments, I mean how many pals which are all definitely visually distinct, did you claim looked similar to evee? That alone defeats your arguments. The fact is that evee's model is based off a real life creature, and that creature has many similar creatures to it. As such it's not uncommon for anything which uses a similar base to have similarities. And you night want to look up a bird called a Tucan you obviously have never seen one, because you were not aware of anything similar to it, and instead found the closest Pokemon to it and said it was similar. Don't forget that Pokemon has been going on for years, and they have created thousands of Pokemon, it's unlikely that anything imitating that art style with more than a few designs would be able to do so without some similarities. Keep in mind this was demoed years ago, and Nintendo had a chance to object to these designs back then, and they didn't, even if Nintendo did have an objection, this is still early access, as such it's likely that if Nintendo has a problem with a design, they can just make a few more changes to it in the next patch, and then any suit Nintendo has would be moot. The only way Nintendo might win a case is if people were confusing palworld with Pokemon, and I don't think any reasonable person has done that. If Nintendo thought they had a real case they would already have issued an emergency injunction to prevent sales and distribution, while they hashed this out in court. As palworld kinda makes them look bad, since it's budget was only 10k, and Pokemon has had no significant changes since it's inception.

21:44 he looks a little like lagiacrus from monster hunter, mainly in color scheme and the red thingies on the back also speaking of MH the Pal at 18:42 (i dont even wanna try spelling any of those) is less of a zebra then a unicorn and electric unicorn is a trope that is also used in MH on Kirin. 31:35 its funny that you mention brachydios, garangolm is much closer, with the element soaked rock fist thingies 31:35 moon shaped wings are also a key part for both mega salamence and its past form from SV 32:20 also wanna throw in zekrom here, especially the wings and general color 35:37 also wanna point out the ring around the body that is definitely not ripped off of arceus 36:04 and 35:46 look a lot like Ceruledge and Armarouge on Horse bodies, especially since they both form a pair.

Just popping in to let you know that Teostra in Monster Hunter is a fella that seems to have a likeness to Blaze Lion... Or should I say it the other way around? All joking aside you'll see it. There are quite a few that seem to take inspiration from other games too like Final Fantasy X's Ifrit design. It is based off a mythical creature but still pretty clearly inspires from a similar idea. Great coverage though!
