Being a Bengaluriga,I am always amazed by Tulu Nadu Culture and definitely do not have the thinking that you say we have. In fact,Coastal Karnataka is one of my favourite places.

That's because the daiva entered the pujari's body also. If they didn't hold the pujari he would fall and it is not good if a pujari falls when daiva enters the body

According Sandhi Paddana of Panjurli - Panjurli was wild boar born to male and female boar under blessing of Lord Subramanya, Thses wild boar started distroying Lord shivas Nandavana which made shiva to kill the boar but Mata Parvati got in loved with Panjurli one of the five kid and raised it in Kailasa but it became wild boar and Mata parvati captived it through large chains, once Asuras planned to Kill suras by poisoning their food and take the Amrutha from Suras, Panjurli came to know about this and it broke the chains and distroyed all poisoned food prepared by Asuras and ate it, it also ate Amrutha. Lord shiva seeing all this came to know about Varahi vishnu power inside Panjurli and blessed it that in kaliyuga neither Lord shiva nor Lord vishnu cannot come to earth so this Panjurli will protect dharma and bless the people in earth.
