Beginning in 1955, Pan American World Airways began to recruit Japanese American stewardesses that were based locally here in Honolulu, HI. The group, known as "Pan Am Nisei stewardesses", were women that were selected for their personality as well as their looks. This was a prestigious job that required them to adhere to strict rules, but they learned to tolerate this environment. Through this experience they gained the opportunity to travel and explore the world.
