You know this might be strange.......but one of my favorite parts of every video is the very beginning. Before people arrive, before chat starts and it’s just your sweet little hand with your Apple Watch and your fun bracelets, rings, cute stripey shirt........it’s just so peaceful and I’m just so happy. I think to myself “Dede’s here!” And I know I’m going to have a fun time, enjoy some art, and chat with some amazing people and for a little while escape the stresses of life. I know I’ll be uplifted by positivity, creativity and be inspired. Thank you so much Dede for everything you do, I’m truly blessed to have found you. Hugs!! 💚

Really pretty DeDe.. I just love my pan pastels...ty for doing this pic. I use Blair (green label and low odor) fixative that is easier than the mister bottle that sprays too much out... the Spectrafix pump fixative can leave some big drops on your work, but it does now come in an aerosol spray..Noooo dont ever set pastels with water.
This is so pretty. I love it. I have the skin set & garden set. I’m thinking of ordering the portrait set. What color it that light pink & dark pink. Is it light red iron oxide and magenta. Tint or shade. I’ll probably get some duplicates with the portrait set. I know I don’t have that dark pink. Maybe I should order it separately. The colors look darker in the painting set. Trying to decide what’s best to order next. If you get time to look. Thanks
I returned my krylon because I didn’t want to deal with inhaling the fumes & smell. I have the spectrum but have never used it. I don’t know but i watched someone once on RU-vid saying if you kind of smooth out the pastels with a soft cloth the pastels will set more. But I don’t know if you will feel this would be satisfactory. Since pan pastels are more pigmented it may not work. I have done this smoothing technique with regular soft pastels from faber castelll & it worked pretty well.
When I did this with my FC chalk pastels with a cotton makeup pad, they really didn’t smear into each other. A little bit maybe with multiple Complimentary colors in a background but it still looked ok. But of course like you say they are much less pigmented. They did seem to set & not give me much trouble coming after that. I was frustrated when I first used them because they tend to be so light & take multiple applications to get much pigment. At first I thought I was doing something wrong. I have some Blick pastels that I haven’t used yet but I suppose all these chalk pastels are about the same. I think it might be worth it to experiment a little with trying this smoothing technique with multiple colors with the pan pastels on a piece or coloring page we are not so concerned about to see if this works with them. I think I may give it a try. I loved how this page turned out & am looking forward to trying it in the book. I just need a few of the pinkish colors. I think maybe it was one of Bunny’s RU-vid videos where I heard of this technique to tap down the pastels from smearing but I’m not absolutely sure. It sure would be nice to not have to use fixative. What do you think?
Pan Pastels are SOO blendy and pigmented, I don't think you could swipe across it without smearing. I will use Grumbacher Final Fixative if the Spectrum doesn't "pan" out hehehe You really HAVE to fix Pan Pastels.
Ok Good to know that Grumbacher fixative will do the trick. I’ll have to get it when I start using pan pastels. I ordered the portrait set that you recommended & I am looking forward to getting them. Love all your wonderful videos. Lots of learning + fun fun fun.
