A simply unbelievable performance. Am fighting terminal brain cancer and have decided that when the time comes, I will have my earpods in listening to this as I shuffle off this rock. And then it will be played at my funeral.
I was there at Glasto and it was a memorable gig for all those who were there. I just read your comment and hope that you are still with us, listening to the Waterboys. Sending a virtual hug from Italy. 🤗
Somewhere, somehow, someone has a footage of this moment in time. So to all of you lovers, fools, thieves and pretenders.......All you have to do is upload it and SURRENDER!!!!!
Every time I hear this I'm just blown away. You can listen to it constantly and pick up new bits. Then rest it for a month and come back and it's like the very first time you've had ears on it. Magic.
I was there too. I was 22 and it was my second Glasto. This was the best gig of the festival and I absolutely melted. Mind you the 1986 line-up was fantastic, with The Cure headlining Saturday... I still adore The Waterboys. The fire's still burning!
I was there too! I attended two consecutive years. Was 86 the year that the Psychedelic Furs headlined too? The following year (I think) World Party played.
One off the great folk rock bands ever with one off the greatest tracks! And some great pattie smith lyrics what more could you want! Wickham festival here I come🏴☠️👍
Waterboys me recuerda una época muy bonita de mi juventud.Nadie me los recomendó. Los escuché por casualidad en una discoteca.Fue escucharlos y flipar.Tenía 15 años.Ahora tengo 41 y me siguen gustando................................. !!!!!!!!
Fantastic. I' ve heard Mike do a lot of covers now of other people's songs and he blows me away every time. This is no exception. He does everything with class and style and even knocks the original artists out of the park!!!. Just when you think it can't get any better Mike comes on and makes them look ordinary. I ve heard him sing Wild Horses, Purple Rain, and now Because the Night. Brilliant covers all of them. He's a class act. Thanks Mike Scott. Much love and God bless Susan ❤❤❤❤❤❤⭐🙏🙏🙏🙏🕊🕊🕊👍
That change at 3:45, just majestic. The interplay between violin, keyboards and guitar, this is just brilliant. A band totally in top form and int the grove. Brilliant.
I was there too, along with others who have commented. Still extraordinary live, but I think this was them at their best , young, exciting and like no other band around. Stole Glastonbury that year
Nº 1 en Barraca por siempre. No lo pudieron "matar" porque estos temas son inmortales. Barrakón. Lovers, tears, fools and pretenders. Ufff Nº 1 in Barraca for ever. They can't kill it because this songs are inmortals. Barrakón.
How can anything be this good?! I love, love, love this! Two of my all time favourite songs fused together into something even greater. I would give A LOT to be able to go back in time and be in that crowd... The Waterboys, my love
they were one of te best bands on the planet at this time, ace, mike scotts spiritual sid buzzin thru it all,the big music indeed, close yer eyes, breath slow ,we will begin xxx
I can't remember when was the first time I've heard this song... but now at this moment I'm as old as this one and makes me feel that this was composed just a few months ago... this song is ageless... un be lie va ble!
I consider myself privileged for having The Waterboys and this song in my life and so should everyone of you. Best thing I've heard in a long time, thank you for sharing.
was at Hammersmith Palais a couple of weeks before the Glastonbury gig, think it was the warm up. The MC announced them as 'The greatest live band in the world' - he was not wrong....
Saw them around the same time at Milton Keynes Bowl. It was a good lineup, Lloyd Cole, Big Audio Dynamite, Waterboys and Simple Minds. Also, the day of the England Argentina game. Funnily enough all I can recall is the Waterboys set and the hand of god😀
I was there, 21 years old. I had previously thought The Waterboys were horribly pompous and shite but had my head fair taken off by them after my freinde Liz made me watch them - such an amazing live band. This medley was most definitely a highlight and |I've been a fan ever since. Top 3 gigs ever for sure. I'm a lucky boy.
Always one of the very best Mike Scott songs from way back when I was a teenager! Still got the vinyl I played in my bedroom, wishing I could play the guitar. Well now I can.
I seen the waterboys in 86 in Milton Keynes playing support to simple minds a great gig and they did a astounding version of prince's purple rain was on the day of maradona hand of god goal before the days of giant screens either side of stage I taught was gonna be a riot when Jim kerr in his Scottish accent announced result of match England 1 but pronounced won a very very long pause argentina 2 .
yeah me too . I had this taped on a crappy BASF c60 tape from a Dave fanning show off radio 2 and it's was unbelievable back then. This quality is maybe better. thank you.
Me too - I was 12 and taped the whole set on a c90 - it was this track that mesmerized me. So happy to find this all these years later. This version sounds fantastic ! Thanks so much to the poster.
paul cooke I was at a quiz in my local pub and popped out half way through to tape it..also managed to record born to be together a little while before. .did manage to re-record this off a p2p site a good while back
not sure how I've missed this through the years, but I'm glad I finally found it...rivals their "Church Not Made.." as an epic sounding song. Awesome finish!!
Wow, never heard this before, thank you for posting. Now going to seek where I can download. 1st saw the boys at the Forum '85 and had to wait 20 years later to see them at the Albert Hall . Can't wait to see them again at the Round house in Feb. Scotty, the love child of Patti Smith and Elvis Presley who was raised by Bob Dylan and May West. Rock God
“ The Pan Within “ Scotch / Irish with a take on “ Bolero" written by Ravel without the intention with which it has been used. If you don’t know this piece by Ravel, look it up.
