Whenever I visit a different country, I always try to get behind the wheel and experience first hand the driving habits, customs, and many times straight up CRAZY maneuvers some drivers pull off.
I visited Panama recently. This video shows a bit of the driving experience captured in just a few hours of driving. Unfortunately since I was there for vacation with the family, I couldn't dedicate too much time for video production. At least enjoy the video if you've never been to Panama.

Thank you. That was awesome watching and learning. Noticed no one seem to use turn signals, but otherwise, it looks like a beautiful country.

Wow this is amazing! Literally much better looking than Colombia honestly, this is a true metropolis. Or the Dubai of Latin America

Good analogy. I think of it as the Monaco of Latin America. A LOT of money goes thru Panama City. Much more than it's GDP. It's quite extraordinary!

Some of these SUVs are also common in USA and Canada. For a Central American Country I am very impressed. I want to drive there now. Like take my cars from Canada and drive down there enjoying all the costal scenic roads.

Oooh I sooo want to do that, but you would need like a month just to drive down and then another month to drive up. Or you could always just ship your car back home!

Thanks for uploading this. Considering visiting Panama to check out the Colon Free Trade Zone. Thinking about staying in Panama City and renting a car to drive to Colon on a daily basis for maybe 2 or 3 days. Would you recommend this for someone who has never been there before?

In terms of driving overall, if you have driven in large cities like New York City, you'd be OK. Just be sure to read how others drive and mimic that. You'll find your flow quickly. I've never driven to Colon. My recommendation would be to be mindful of the red zones. Other than that, should be fun! Hope that helps!

Miguel's Garage thanks a lot for your advice. What exactly is a red zone, and where would these be?

Red zones are areas marked for lower safety standards. You can typically google "red zone" + "place you are visiting" and find a lot of info/reviews from travel sites.

Don't go to Colon by yourself make sure you go with someone who already knows Colon. You can get lost easy there and its not safe for solo newcomers.Again once you have a reliable wing you'll be fine.

With the cars you see in the streets. I think it has the feel youre driving in Asia. Srsly those cars are very common here especially the Toyotas and the SUV youre driving in this vid

Rob the Pizza Boi yes, a lot of Asian imports. That is typically the case with a lot of Latin American countries I’ve been to.

Driving In panama is very easy but is nothing like driving in the us. Using Waze will help and driving aggressive is the way to go. comen courtesy is practically completely absent lol you are require by law to purchase a insurance when you rent a car in panama so that gave me some comfort.

Huge city with awesome skyscapers. Is it safe there, overall? Google doesn't do the car maps there.

I've used Google maps there. Overall very safe. There are bad neighborhoods like anywhere else, but generally speaking its safe. There's many highend stores selling jewlery, purses, etc. You see people walking around with LV bags, Hermes, etc, fancy jewlery which is a good indication that its safe. Whenever I go to a new city and people are craddling their phones, you know there's a lot of pick-pocketing happening lol

Why Panama City roads seems packed and less breadth.
@Miguelsgarage
@Miguelsgarage 5 лет назад
There's about 3 million people in the city. The roads and the city itself was designed based on old European standards, so narrow roads are part of that. Thanks for your comment and for watching. Please subscribe if you haven't. I really appreciate it!
