Will you do a review of Luminar 3? I know people would find that very interesting. Edit: I just saw you did a short video on it. I'd love to see an in depth version. Regardless, thanks for the content.
Panasonic’s now-ubiquitous Focus Stacking and Post Focus modes now comes built into to the G90 Camera body, this is great for Macro photography, it will take up to 999 shots and stack them to make one super clear sharp picture. It is available in the newer G90 but if you own the older version, you can download the newer firmware update which will include these. A Great review by the way, happy shooting 😊
Thanks for this. I already bought the G95. This is my 1st real camera. Seems people who are disappointed already own the G85. The G95 feels like a good balance between photo and video features. I'm especially looking forward to the release of the 10-25mm lens next month. It will be much heavier but a super cool setup.
Enjoy your new camera Panasonic puts alot of thought into the ergonomics so they are a joy to use. Some people are difficult to please. If a camera suits your needs and budget buy it else just don't or look elsewhere. It's that simple.
I've had the G90 now for little more than a month. It's an upgrade for me from the G5. I also have the G3 and the original G/G1. Being an almost (NB - almost.) exclusive stills photographer I think it is very good indeed! I even like the new menus. Before crossing over to digital when I retired early, my working tools were Nikon F4, F90s and F3 film cameras. Along with various medium format. All the menus of the M4/3 cameras were something of a culture shock as was dismantling my darkroom. It seems that old dogs can learn new tricks.
I normally don't comment on videos, but felt the need to here. Excellent video review, I appreciate all the considerations you made and without wasting time.
Excellent review. Panasonic Camera division should really hire you to promote their cameras. Your picture selection in selling the camera is simply amazing. Great work !
Great look at the G95. That screen is awesome. I was impressed by the "side by side" look you showed. I know you said they are coming but can't wait to see G95 vs G85 and G95 vs G9. Thank you for your work. Always enjoy.
I just deleted my comment since I found that you prefer gh5 or g9 for more significant upgrade path from g85. So I choose g85 for my first lumix camera for learning videography. Thank you :)
Great video as always 👍 and I remember watching your reviews when deciding to buy the G85 a year and a half ago. First time I’ve actually heard and seen the screen quality of the G90. I agree with your comments and will pass on this and look at the G9 or GH5. Keep the videos coming 👍👋
So easy to watch and to listen to and **trustworthy**! Best channel for Panasonic & my very favorite channel - NO ONE does a better job of presenting information [visually AND speech] which is distilled for maximum usability using the minimum amount of technical details to achieve that result. WOW! So many channels are copy-cats that cannot match the calm soothing and authenticity of your channel!
The Hybrid Shooter The Panasonic handling experience is really second to none. Even my FZ300 has most of those elements. I’m now saving up for the G95. Thanks again!
Really surprised by the quality of the 1080 C-AF and OLED screen, wow. Haven't seen anyone else talk about this in their videos, those are great improvements. I will keep my G80 but the next generation of this camera will definitely tempt me into upgrading. For now I can live with having a slightly inferior camera, as jealous as I am of the new model. For now.
@@TheHybridShooter Yeah, I meant to say I don't have enough reasons to upgrade to G90 but by the next generation after that it might be enough to make me save up and spend the money - this line of cameras is my favourite so far and I'm very happy to see Panasonic put continued effort towards it, and I'm very much looking forward to see what is possible in 2-3 years from now.
Great video looking forward to the comparison with the G9... I wish Panasonic would just make the G9 unlimited recording with a firmware update since the euro tax have been lifted.
Damn dude, Your videos are by far the best. You have become my most trusted reviewer. I have a question. Which would you recommend This G95, or GX9. Stills and Video are equally important to me. Slightly in favor of stills . No vlogging, just general family, and vacation stuff.
At 8:18 you mention the AF (autofocus) custom settings for video which are sadly missing altogether from the G9 (which I have). Panasonic see fit to exclude this function from the G9 but include it in the G95/90, a considerably cheaper camera! And made worse by the fact that the G95/90 has a huge crop for 4K video! So, if you want to have notable photography capability and notable video capability you have to buy 2 cameras! Thanks Panasonic! But to have notable Panasonic reviews we only need one RU-vid location - here! Thanks!
You're welcome, G9 AF is still miles better than G90/G95 even without settings. I don't recommend using those on G90 / G95 anyways. I much prefere having one setting that works, which is fortunately the case on the G9.
Great review. I was looking at upgrading from my G6 and though the G9 would be a bit big for most of what I do. I think this may be the solution and a bonus that it uses the same battery.
Just need to know 1. how to just turn it on and shoot in auto mode? 2. How do I shoot a PANO picture? How do I look at what I just took a picture of? TY in advance
An odd camera. It has some great features you want but not enough to upgrade from the G80 when you could go G9 instead. Perhaps this is aimed at G7 and other lower end 16mp sensor users. It has some great features but for me I will still go for G9.
I agree. Possessing the GX85 and considering an upgrade, the last thing I would want is not paying enough or hanging on to some criteria that results in the feeling of no upgrade at all.
@@loft4me GX80 is great I have one (and a G80) I guess the upgrade to the GX9 is unnecessary when you have this (but its a bit pricier) but then the upgrade to the G9 is even better still for not a lot more.
Excellent information and review. You showed me many new features I did not know about my new G95. I loved and still have the G85, but this camera is definetly an upgrade. I totally agree with you assessments and report. Thank you very much.
WHY do the camera manufacturers insist on moving buttons around that don't need to be moved at all. The G85 has one of the best dial and button placements in the market no matter how much money you spend. But Panasonic decided to move the back panel buttons around for no good reason. Putting the DISP button below the menu buttons is ridiculous. Also Panasonic has done the same thing they did with the GX9, namely shove the 20mp sensor into essentially the same circuit board with the old processor and body. Except of course screwing around with the buttons. I have no reason to spend the money on this camera since I already own a G85. Panasonic screwed up on this one IMHO. Sorry. Your review is good as usual and I watch every one of them. Regards from the desert.
Thank you, I think that they are trying to streamline the controls to make future upgrades easier for Lumix users. I have to say that I prefer G95 button placement, especially the WB, ISO and EC buttons on the top but that is a matter of preference. It is indeed repackaging of older technology, we will have to wait for the GH6 to see real innovation.
G9 all the way considering the cashback where it was around 1000€ :/ also considering lacks of firmware supporto for non top of the line panasonic camera models.
Thanks for the review! I'm currently looking for a smaller camera for travel and was initially looking at the GX9. Do you think the additional benefits and features of the G95 over the GX9 is worth the additional size/weight?
Top man, great video, like your style and presentation. Your photos are impressive as well. Do you think there is a future for M34 Systems. When their is the canon RP and Sony A7 iii for not much more. Regards Si.
Thank you, I appreciate your feedback. That is difficult to say at the moment, we will probably have to wait until the GH6 is announced to see real innovation in M43 system. Sony E-mount is probably the only safe system at the moment.
I own the G85/G80 and I am really happy with it! However I sometimes think of upgrading my gear. I think upgrading to the G95 would not make a lot of sense for me since I mainly shoot photos. What would you recommend to achieve a noticeable improvement in quality? G9 or even switching to Sony?
nope, if you wait cashback G9 is better and was last cashback around 1000€, same price but for a pro camera. I have g7 and g80, the only upgrade w'd be the G9 for me, also because of bad firmware support on non-top camera model
Hi Thanks for the videos they are inspiring .. i am having problems with noise when shooting sun rise and sunset - only in these timings with my G9 , and advise you can give me on setting or are you going to make separate video on settings during sun rise and sunset subject
Always love your videos. No fluff, content-based, well thought out. I have both the G85 and G9 so not tempted by this. However, if I didn't have those and also didn't have a lot of extra money, the G95 would be at the top of the list for me. I just wish Panasonic got off the contrast only AF system to rival Sony's and Canon's AF iterations. Not sure why they are so stubborn, if they moved forward their cameras might become the overall best package(s).
Thank you! Panasonic's DFD system has a lot of potential and some advantages, unfortunately it still requires a lot of fine-tuning and probably more processing power to match PDAF.
Thanks for another great review. I am (was) G85 user and I bought GH5 few weeks ago and was never sure about my decision on GH5 over G95 till watching this review. 4K with a significant crop on a new release G95 is disappointing.
That crop is HUGE. Would you really recommend this over the G85 for video? So much more expensive, and so much less image area. If you still have the G80 / G85, could you compare the 4K video between the two, especially in low light?
Depends on how you intend to use it. G85 has even worse AF in 4K and you can't use auto ISO in manual movie mode, which means that you also can't use Cinelike-D with auto ISO. I recommend getting G9 or GH5 if you intend to shoot a lot of video. I unfortunately don't have G85 anymore.
@@TheHybridShooter Slightly better auto focus is not a good trade for that huge crop. Less than half of the G90 / G95 sensor is exposed when in 4K. That's terrible. Agree that the GH5 or G9 are much better choices, but would argue that the G85 is also a better choice for video, and a much better value.
Good review. Depending on where Olympus goes with their next model of the EM5 will determine if I will be buying it or going with probably a G95 or G9 next year. Hope to see a comparison from you when it comes out.
To begin, great video as always!! Can you do a comparison between the G95 and A6400? I am considering one of these for the next phase of my photography. I Currently do all my work on MFT (Previous gen 16MP sensor) but have gotten to the point where I am no longer happy with the dynamic range, megapixel count, low light capability, and depth of field I am getting on the platform. I think it's time to move on, however, I am still heavily invested in MFT as I have tons of lenses on this system. A move to Sony would be very expensive, but benefits in image quality would be immense, what do you reckon? How is the EVF on the G95 by the way?
Thank you, It is possible that I will do that in the future. There is noticeable difference between 16mpix and 20 megapixel M43 sensor, but it is not "night and day" difference. If you want to switch systems, I would recommend going full frame, that might even be cheaper thank to great FF 3rd party lenses that are available.
Thanks for the great review!! I´m wondering, if there might be a solution to the lack of processing power concerning the struggeling AF during 4K recording. Is there any "energy saving function", that could be turned off before shooting video, in order to boost processing power a little? I´m really interested in getting this camera, but unreliable AF during 4K-video is of course a bummer.
@@fetzinger10 I don't think so to be honest Heavy crop in 4K is also a deal-breaker IMO and missing joystick spoils the handling. I generally don't recommend G90 to anyone in 2021.
Just from the photography point of view, things like dynamic range, noise level, autofocus performance. Which camera would you recommend the G9 or G95? I am planning to get a new camera before the end of this month so I am trying to decide between those 2.
G9 has a bit better dynamic range thanks to different processing, but the output is very similar. The only advantage of the G95 over the G9 is the portability and OLED screen, G9 is better at everything else.
Does the lens kit 12-60mm have stabilization? I know the camera comes with it, just wondering if the lens comes with stabilization. Is there something I need to do in the settings to make sure it's on? Thank you
Out of all the cameras I’ve used below the g95 has been my favorite. Getting back in to m43 Panasonic g95, Panasonic g9, Panasonic GX85, Panasonic GX9, Panasonic s5, Ricoh GR III, Ricoh CV4, Ricoh WG-6, Pentax k70, Pentax K1, Pentax p30, Pentax mx1, Chinon cm5, Minolta G HI-Matric, Sigma DP Quattro, Canon R, Fujifilm xe2, , Fujifilm x100v, Nikon z50, Nikon z30, Panasonic s5 twice, Nikon d200, Nikon d300, Nikon d300s
I just notice this camera it's exist, because I went to buy the g80. I don't have too many experience with video-photography but do you recommend me to buy another lens if I am a begginer?
Thank you for this review. It probably been asked a lot but I'd like the opinion of one who has had the G85. I want to get a camera as a gift for someone upgrading from smartphone so I prefer the smaller size not MFT. IBIS and weather sealing is important. Would you say at this time that the extra for G95 is worth the savings over a G85. This is for someone now getting into photography seriously after typical smart phone use. Thanks.
I would probably go with G85 instead. G90 is actually worse camera for video. I would also prefer Sony A6100 or Fuji X-T30 instead, although I'm not how much those cost nowadays.
not a real deal breaker when you can review usually picture inside evf, and there g9 wins with better EVF. Lcd only helps to drain batteries when under the sunlight ;)
Would be great if you can Compare more details on 4k video and 4k photos between G95 and G85?. And which one get more cropped in 4k videos? And overall Which one would be better for 4k videos record, kindly suggest???
@@TheHybridShooter very sad my bro, m4/3 offer very good results with budget price, especially panasonic, other brands like Sony offers better results at more money, worse ergonomics
@@TheHybridShooter Thank You! So the A7III is a better night time camera than the G9, correct? Also, what lenses would be best for night time with the A7III?
Hi are you sure the sensor is same as GX9 and G9? I heard that GX9 sensor is a bit lower quality than G9. Could you let me know if the mechanical shutter sound is at least as quiet as GX9? Thanks
@@TheHybridShooter hello... Thanks for getting back. I am planning between gx9 and g90. Will check the handling of g90 in a shop. Have played with gx9 and g80 before
Nice review but, I'd like to see a direct comparison between g9 and g90 / 95 for AF performance. Nobody dared to do it, although I think it is more than reasonable to do it
Hello my frend thank you for the video I sold my g80 now iam looking for a new camera What do you think a g90 or g9 I only shoot 1080p on tripod and AF is very important to me i was thinking about g9 please let me know what you think thank you
