Panasonic GH4 worth buying in 2020? Is the Lumix GH4 in 2020 - is it still a good buy? I took out my Panasonic GH4 for a fun little adventure to see how it compares 5 years later. Overall the GH4 is still an AMAZING camera but there are a couple things I instantly missed from my Panasonic GH5

As i am rendering on premiere right now a work for a client shot on the GH4, i can tell you - this camera still kicks ass for cheap.

GH5 is King! But the GH4 is still a good camera, especially as a B Camera. The fact that it uses the same battery and has an excellent battery life, are a few more arguments that make me keep it. However, for beginners considering buying a video camera, I would recommend the G85, and if the money allows the G95. For PRO use GH5 is the best. Greetings from Germany

Abhi D Music GH4 in my opinion. Great batery Life and ergonomic. A very good Camera. But if you can, go with the G85 or G95. IBIS is amazing!

I still film on my Panasonic GH5R in 2022. You say GH4 is for hobby, but don't forget, when the GH4 came out many PRO videographers shot amazing footage on GH4. GH4 is a Prosumer camera that, in my situation, can be used VERY well for paid assignments, even in 2022. Would be a nice challenge to see a top DOP with the GH4 vs a novice with Arri Alexa to see who will have the best final product. I think I already know the answer.

I've had mine for about a year, and upgraded to the GH5 in February. I still use it as my side camera for interviews and it holds up very well! Definitely miss that stabilization though!

@@lizp3910 for pictures it is great. When it comes to video I don't use autofocus. I manually focus through the Panasonic touch app or set it before I shoot.

I’ve seen it for $269 second hand. I might grab it and use for a B roll camera. It looks like you get many of the same things the GH6 has, you don’t get the nice 5.7K60 videos though and that fan. I’ll use that for doing how to videos and for reviews. It still has 4K in it. Just not at 60fps that I use in fitness videos. I can’t use it for fitness since it’s too long and no fan.

My lcd flip out stopped working, but the viewfinders lcd is still functional. I use this mainly for photography when I'm with family or for low budget jobs, but its awesome to have a great B cam like this and still get pretty solid footage out of it. I love and am still using the A7Sii for video projects.

GH4 has better codecs for high frame rate 1080p, which you'll want for music videos. GH4 has better codecs overall.

Nice Retro Review, Ryan. Given the price points, now that the G95 is out, you can pick up a G85 for around the same price point, and functionality-wise the GH4 and G85 are close (yeah a few differences - no V-LOG - but CineD for the win!) The big advantage is you get the IBIS on the G85 (not quite as good as the GH5, but pretty solid).

both the GH4 and the G85 are very close i n the price point, the difference is that the latter includes the 12-60mm lens. Aside from that which one would you pick?

@@chapingo7067 I think it depends on your use cases. I find IBIS a huge help for run-and-gun and being light on your feet (no Gimbal required!). If you really need bit-depth and v-log, the GH4 is the right pick, but be prepared to use with a gimbal. G85 I had some great experience with and it was compact and IBIS was really good, but it definitely could not rival the GH cameras for video options. Choosing between the two, I'd take the G85, purely for the IBIS.

Hey Ryan. Awesome vids and thanks for GH4 tips. I love bicycling and started bringing along my GH4. Do you think you could recommend a stabalizer I could possible mount bicycle? Though I could settle for holding with one arm if need be. It is still an amazing camera! I love it!

Question. Does the canon 24-70 give the same field of view as a native Panasonic 12-35?

Yes and no. 24-70 on full frame =24-70 12-35 on M43 = 24-70 FOV 24-70 on M43 can go about three ways 1. Adapter with no focal reducer = 24-70 x 2 = 48-140mm 2. Adapter with .64 focal reducer = 24-70 x 2 x .64 = 30-90mm(roughly) 3. Adapter with .71 focal reducer = 24-70 x 2 x .71 34-100mm(roughly)

I love my GH4. I've been using it since 2014 when it was released. Half the videos on my site were shot on it. Was going to sell it, but decided to shoot another project in 2020 (music video) with it and still can't see myself getting rid of this camera! There's a lot the gh5 simply can't do. The gh5 doesn't fit into professional shoots without sdi connections. We still get 10bit 224 on the gh4 and there's nothing it can't do on these shoots as an amazing b camera. The gh5 simply doesn't fit.
