Dear Mr.(Elemental) Williams, I was very informed after watching your very nice, instructive, and down to earth overview of this beard trimmer I just bought. You’ve saved us all time by showing how all the parts work and - where applicable - they come apart. It’s a great kindness to take the time to spare us the frustrations of trying to discern the tiny print of the directions, and then also impart your wisdom. Much peace to you and yours!
I bought this after my previous trimmer packed up. Spent half an hour with the instruction manual but could not figure how to take the blade off. Me and manuals probably!! Wish I had just gone to your video first as you demonstrated it very simply. Great video. Very helpful. Thanks.
Yea 👌👍. The best one i have ever had. The most precise and sharpest. The blades really really last, about 2, 3yrs. Also they are not so expensive at all. This is the most comprehensive and versatile trimmer. I can cut and shape my own hair with no problem. This beast can really do all, mostly in only one pass. It's amazing, out of this world. 💥
Mr. Williams, thank you so much for your outstanding instruction and how to use devices of this nature. I own the Panasonic ER-GB96-K which has about 90% of this GB80. In the end, your review has made my understanding of how to use this device far more effectively! Cheers!
These are currently selling for $50 so they're a great buy at that price. I'm not sure why these companies sell things super high at first then lower the price.
I agree with what you're saying about people not reading the instructions and not taking proper care of their devices. It doesn't take much. I own a Panasonic Arc 3 shaver that I'm pretty happy with. Currently looking for beard trimmer/hair clipper. This is a helpful video! Thanks!
Really good review ! Thank you. Only thing I missed is that it would've been great to see how secure the guard is in terms of keeping the right elevation. My phillips sometimes slides into a lower measure if I'm not careful and that can mess up my beard if I'm not paying attention
Thanks for a very good review. I bought this trimmer as my 15 year old babyliss clipper died on me. The great thing about this trimmer is the body hair comb, or as I call it, the “Nakasaki” comb. I can confidently trim my intimate parts without the worry of nicking myself. It also does a really good job of both trimming my beard and cutting my hair. Yes it’s expensive, but I think it’s definitely money well spent
Nicely made :-) Thanks for pointing out the fact that oil attached to the device has some use. Most of users are too stupid to catch that unfortunately...
Very glad to have fount this video, because the instruction manual is much less clear, especially about oiling, removing the cutter,. One question: if you run out oil, what kind should be used?
You can try Amazon to find some clipper oil. I actually bought some machine oil for about $2 from Walmart. Panasonic has not stated anything about using another type of oil it was just a choice that I made and I've been using it for about the past year or so and it works just fine. You could also call Panasonic customer service or go to their website to see if they have any for sale. I wish you the best of luck using this product. It has come in very handy over the years
I had gb60 before but it is only for beard so i decided to buy this on sale because it is all in one. I say if u have this you dont need anything else.
@@Olutunu yeah I bought it, seems like a good affordable entry level product for someone who isn't super serious about having the top of the line stuff. Also I had no idea how to remove the blade until I saw you do it haha
Thanks for the video. I just got mine (for a great deal at $35) but couldn't figure out how to get the razor out to apply the oil to the bottom two spots. First shave was really good just more complex prepping/cleaning vs the Norelco i had for years. although this is a much better shave.
I am very glad this worked out for you. This is now considered old (tech wise) I know they just came out with a beard trimmer which is a minimally scaled down version of this one. I wonder if they are going to come out with another full bodied trimmer or is this going to be the standard for the next couple of years like the Braun Series 7.
@@Olutunu I didn't realize it wasn't a current model! It was just there with all the other shavers on display at the store I got it from. I didn't realize until I actually used it that I noticed the larger size. I've been hearing good things about Braun 7, for shaving my head, but went with the Pitbull instead since it seemed more ergonomic to use. So far I'm somewhat disappointed. Thanks for the response!
Hey man, great video. I am so thin on top I keep my head shaved weekly with Wahl clippers with the number 1 guard. These are about worn out now so was looking to buy another pair and wonder whether this will achieve the same cut for me?
I am really not sure how low they would cut your hair specifically. If you decide to buy them you buy them from a place ( like best buy) that has a good return policy. So that why if you don't get the cut you want your not out of $100. Good Luck
I completely shave my head as I'm bald on top but don't bother using an actual razor after the trimmer. It looks better with a little shadow. How is this for daily head shaving? Do you think it is up to that or should I go for something designed mainly for hair trimming rather than beards? Thanks. I'd really appreciate an answer as I have one I can buy on sale nearby.
Sorry for the late reply I’m just now seeing this. I would say go for a trimmer or edger other than this. This is an OK device for someone with thin hair. However, someone like me who’s hair is very course this would not work for me. As a matter of fact this is just good for trimming. If your hair is extremely long and you try to cut using this hair trimmer the hair gets clogged up in the device with each pass. Which is very time consuming! I would recommend going with the Andi’s T-Outliner.
@@Olutunu - OK thank you. The Andi's cordless is out of my budget. We cannot have sockets in bathrooms here in the UK. The one I currently have is getting gold and my hair catches and it takes much effort. Thank you for the information though, it's good of you.
Great review man, I've been looking for a solid beard trimmer. What would you recommend as high end, I don't care about spending the money, I just want something that lasts long and is powerful. I like that this goes to the half millimetre. i've like to get something that trims to about 5mm for my beard. This thing just doesn't sound too powerful
This beard trimmer is about as high end as you can get for beards. This is the only one that I have used. I feel that this works great for smaller beards. I feel that this one would be good for you if you have a medium to small size beards. Plus, you can use this with other parts of the body as well. I wish you the best of luck with your decision
I would say no. I would still use the Andis clippers or something a bit stronger. I feel that some folks would be able to achieve it with these but that would be very few.
Thanks for the review :) As far as I know the only difference between er-gb70 and this one is only for the body hair comb. what is the advantage of the comb ? if I trim without the comb it will cut at 0.5 mm which is better that 1.5 mm.
Well The company is king when it comes to instructions. I usually tell everyone to follow the instructions. I would advise to follow the directions and if you feel it is too much I would oil it as you feel is needed. Good luck your experience
I don't think so... With the black hair trimmer guard I believe it goes to . 5 or lower (I don't the specs in front of me LOL) It does a great job cutting excess hair off to almost nothing.
This is interesting video. I have never used a trimmer/shaver before and I want to buy one which is robust and fair. So, which one do you recommend me?
hey man, great review! i'm deciding between Panasonic er gb80 and Philips Norelco 7200, the price is more or less the same....do you have any comments maybe? thanks!
Hey markor86, I have never used the Norelco 7200. So I can't give you any info on that particular beard trimmer. However you may want to look into the Philips Norelco 7300 as competition to the Panasonic ERGB80. The PN7300 has up to 18mm settings which is more that the 7200 but still less than the ERGB80. The 7300 is also the same price as the ERGB80. I wish you all the best in your search for a great beard trimmer.
Here is the link to the PN7300 on Amazon.com for your convenience: www.amazon.com/Philips-Norelco-BeardTrimmer-adjustable-QT4070/dp/B003U8ESI4/ref=s9_psimh_gw_g194_i2_r?_encoding=UTF8&fpl=fresh&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=&pf_rd_r=MQF8HZSHANV3B05QJC0X&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=6aad23bd-3035-4a40-b691-0eefb1a18396&pf_rd_i=desktop
Sure, you can use the Andi’s clipper oil or you can purchase Singer’s All Purpose Machine Oil from Walmart, it works very much the same as Andi’s clipper oil. You also may be able to go on Amazon or call Panasonic customer care or go to the website to purchase the same brand oil.
@@Olutunu Wow, that's cool thanks! Just got my Panasonic ER-GB60-K (slightly lower model than yours) -- 95% similar except for that bit that can be extended for fine trimming and the comb for body hair. 😁
Hi! I just bought the ER-GB80/ER-GB70/ER-GB60 which is pretty much the same in this video, except mine is black and doesn't come with a body hair attachment! I haven't used mine yet,its my first hair trimmer! I just wanted to know if I have to apply the oil before first charge,or after!
I would apply it, possibly one or two drops. There may be a sticker diagram showing you where to place the oil on the clipper head. So put one or two on the blade and one drop everywhere else that the sticker shows.
Great review,! If my barber says he used 2 1/2 to cut the side of my hair. what setting would that be on this trimmer for a touch up, until going back and getting my hair cut
I have the exact same trimmer with the exact attachments and everything. It sells in my market as ER GB 75 S and Made in Japan. I think due to some voltage issues. I got it for a deal at 81$ with a Panasonic Dual Blade Shaver free! I am happy with it. The only thing that was weird adjusting to was the oiling part because my previous Philips Norelco trimmer didn't need any oiling. I thought it was for heat dissipation and lubrication? Now I know why my hair gets pulled when I use it without oiling! lol Thanks for the review.
Since it has been a number of years since this device came out there are more options on the market. I would recommend the Brio Beardscape either V1 or V2. V stands for version. Please do your research here on RU-vid before you take my word for it. I wish you the best of luck
I tried the Brio. Overkill for just keeping stubble. I just picked up this trimmer. It’s not bad for stubble. I used the 1 and 1.5mm settings. The slide-up precision trimmer is a nice feature. I have the Conair Super Stubble trimmer. It has a flip back guard instead of a detachable guard, which is very convenient. Additionally, it has setting in increments of .2, which is a nice for keeping stubble at varying lengths. I’ve had it for 5 years and feel like it is on the brink, so looking for a potential replacement.
I think the answer to your question really comes down to preference. I used the the .5 guard on personal spaces around my body and it works just wonderful. I cut my hair low enough without giving me hair bumps. This device also works well in the shower while the hair and skin are wet.
Thanks for the reply. With .5mm do you mean 0.5mm? Because i thought that starts from 1mm. And something else: It's easy to trim your body with 1mm beard guard?
actually the black guard, is strictly for the purpose of cutting the hair as low as possible, so it only cuts at 0.5mm while Guard A cuts 1-10mm long and Guard B cuts from 11-25mm
Actually, if you put one of the trimmers on (preferably the A guard) you should notice a change by eyeballing it. If not that way you try it against your beard... Just make sure your matching your beard length and not taking too much off. No one would that especially you 😉
Is it any good when using no guards ? I regularly shave my head down to a 0 ( or close to ) so would want to use the machine without a guard to get that level.
I really don’t use this without the guards. My hair is pretty course so if that will not work for me using this type of blade. If I want to cut my hair down to zero I usually use the Andi’s T outliner to do so
I hope you've had great success using this over a period of time. I feel that this hair trimmer works good on small & medium sized beards. Any beard that is over 20mm wouldn't be able to use this trimmer. It also works well on body hair as well. So for the late reply I hadn't seen this comment.
To be honest I have never used the Andis UsPro clippers. Yo Raul, it depends on what you need them for mostly. If just trying to trim your hair then I would go the Panasonic ER GB-80. However, if you are trying to give yourself a haircut and a trim up I would go with the Andis UsPro. Also to keep in mind the Andis UsPro has a cord that can be plugged into the wall so I am assuming that you would get more power than using the Panasonic Hair Trimmer (You can use the ER GB-80 while it's plugged in also) The Andis UsPro also has it own set of guards even though they are not as diverse as the ER GB-80. Please, remember this is just an assumption! Before you decide to make any purchase do as much research as you can on both devices before you buy them. You are the one who will be using them! I wish you all the best... Good Shopping!
Thanks for your reply. I will use my new clipper to often fade my own hair(sides and back) as the top I will cut it to a barber shop and also for beard trim. US PRO has the advantage that can be adjusted from 0.5 to 2.4 mm without guard attached and I think this will give more control while Panasonic is very easy to clean. US PRO every time you take the blade off to clean it, you have to Zero Gap it and that scares me a bit as I don't feel very confident in doing that. So as you see is hard to decide.
thank you sir. Just one question, my device does not include the comb for body hair and the precision trimmer... do you know why? The model is the same..
Ferdiotas Arouet bueno creo que hablas español, la cosa es que hay varios paquetes uno que viene con nada, uno con 2 trimmer y uno con 3 y pues la diferencia es el precio
Nope, this is plastic just like most electric razors. I can understand how you feel and I don't blame you for it. But we also must remember that if these products were made of quality steel they would be too heavy for us to use and there would be complaints about that as well and also how quick the steel heated up. Just remember to take care of your device as best you can.
I was looking at er gb96 and or gb86, but for some reason they are not available in my country, and this one is i guess, so im wondering will be good for medium, long beard?
The longest that this beard trimmer can cut is 20 mm. I remember when I cut my beard down 20 mm It was still a lot of beard for me. It was actually waiting longer at about 40 m m. So I would say this is definitely good for medium beards but for a longer beard you going to actually have to trim the hairs using clippers or scissors because this would ultimately kill a long beard.
@@houseabovethebay that's cool I'm glad this worked out for you. I didn't even know the gb96 and gb86 even existed lol. I wish you the best of luck on your beard journey.
@@Olutunu yes, maybe 96 and 86 are new models , but my old philips trimmer is halfdead, so im in the market for something new , so im checking the web for inspiration, anyway thnx once again.
that's a great question. I have been using the Brio Beardscape V.2 which is a great trimmer just make sure you follow the instructions. I recently picked up ( just a week ago ) the Phillips Norelco, One Blade Pro and I have to say that I really like it. It's a trimmer but acts as like a razor. Check some videos here on RU-vid about. I may to one once I use it a bit more.
@@BobRoss-wm3lc there is nothing specific about the instructions. This is something we should all do with the products we purchase. I have noticed many times that people will pick up a device and will be anxious to use it, however, they never read the instructions so they use a product/device for years without knowing all of its features. I don't want this to happen to anyone.
Unfortunately it's really hard to say! There's so many beard trimmers out there with cons and pros to them all. I have to say that using this beard trimmer for a few years it does hold up very well. It also works while it's plugged in charging. This trimmer has also dropped in price over the years. You may be able to purchase this for about $60 now. I wish you the best of luck
