For a travel compact camera charging via cable is preferable, though I guess having both options would have been even better. But if you use a powerbank, then you should technically not have issues with the battery life.
WOW!! That was a very thorough review! Superb! I have a Lumix LX100 and a Sony RX100 which, as I'm sure you know, are better cameras. But I was looking for a fairly small compact 'grab and go' type camera with a large zoom and 4K, and this looks pretty damned good for something that I can just shove into a jacket pocket every day in case I suddenly see something interesting I want to shoot or film! The other two are for more 'serious' stuff! Thanks for the great review!
Yes, I just bought one July 2022, and my video is much better than shown here. I also wondered if there was something wrong. Mine is bad in low light for sure, but in daylight the shots are better than shown here.
Great little camera, but i ended up shelling at the extra 250 for the ZS100. Although if you don't need the low light performance, this is also a good option.
We bought this camera to use for product photography and after a few months there is a lot of dust in the lens even though we took care to cover it when not in use, and we rarely zoomed.
I own one. Fair warning, while the review is spot on, my 4 year ZS-60 suffers from frequent System Failure Alarm and OIS alarm. It will prompt you to turn the camera off and turn it back on to start shooting only to repeat the fault again. Apparently , this fault is quite common on the ZS-60 and other Lumix Models. Personally with my experience, I will avoid Lumix cameras and Leica lenses.
Great review. I have G7 and want a smaller camera. Considering LX and ZS 100 and ZS60 TS outside USA. After watching everything on youtube probably will go with GX85, our thoughts.
Excellent review, thank you. I agreed with everything you said, (that I can understand lol) and I'm especially glad you mentioned the battery, as I just said the same thing. One thing is - the quality you are getting is not as good as from my TZ-80 which I just bought July, 2022. I think maybe you had a faulty one, a setting wrong (unlikely), or maybe something has gone wrong with the computer/RU-vid video? It should be much better than displayed, you can also see from other reviews it's much better. Great review anyway, cheers.
Thanks for a comprehensive review, I am considering this TZ80 as a replacement for my TZ8. Any suggestions of similar replacement models with better image quality? And hopefully also RAW, Zoom at least 20.
Excellent review, I had real doubts about performance watching other 4k samples, but your review confirmed that the video mode is, well, crap. I'll rather stick to my phone camera then. :)
Thank you, An excellent review, very detailed and well explained. In the specification, it states that in 4K or 1080p video can be recorded at 25 or 50fps. Also, in this video, it shows setting at the same frame rates!. You state in this video that it can be recorded in 4K/30fps and 1080p at 30fps, can you confirm that video can be recorded in 30fps?
What's the best point and shoot camera you would recommend for video in low light situations? I'm looking at a Canon G 16 or Nikon P7800 or even a Canon M 10. What are your recommendations? Thanks
This is a great video. I will watch it a second time to make sure I got it all. I bought the DMC-ZS60 which I believe is quite a bit the same as the ZS80. I have a question about charging this camera with the battery left in. So when I plug into the camera charge outlet and then plug into wall outlet. The camera gives a scrolling message to tell camera what you want to do?? And to close camera for camera to start charging. So what I do is just close camera and a red light comes on. So I figured that the light should go off when its fully charged. But the light goes off fairly quickly. So not sure whats going on. Can you tell me step by step how to charge camera. It did get charged but someone feel there is something I am missing about this process. Thanks
I got the ZS100 just this month (September 2023) and it works really well even for its age. You can still pick them up used and the low light performance is similar to my Canon 60D, which uses a much larger sensor. The stabilization is also really good allowing you to get 1/8 of a second shots handheld, fully zoomed in with a 80-90% keep rate. Because the camera is so well behaved even at high ISOs, you can boost ISO up to 1600 or even higher at night and with some smart shooting or good denoising software, get perfectly usable images. There is one thing I have to warn about and that is wide angle performance. The camera fixes this for you in JPEG, but if you shoot in RAW, at the widest angles there is heavy fisheye distortion as well as heavy vignetting in the corners of the frame. This makes JPEGS shot at the widest angle practically unusable. However, this distortion and fisheye drops off by the time you reach around 40mm and is all but gone at 50mm. I don't find it that much of an issue as I prefer to shoot at around a 40-50mm focal length most of the time so I hardly ever notice the issues at wide angles. Overall, I would highly recommend the ZS100 if you're still in the market for a small point and shoot. Since a newer model (ZS200) has been released, the ZS100 has fallen greatly in price and is 500 new which is a pretty sweet deal for everything that you get. Best of luck!
Hello, I have the Panasonic lumix dmc-tz80 camera and I can't be happier with it but I have a problem, maybe I don't know how to do it right and that is that when I do a timelapse and set it to turn on in a minute it activates at 12 o'clock. night and record that minute, when I am on the screen "Interv. Time-Shot" I have fixed that the date is one day after the current one, what I do wrong, greetings and thanks
I can't get the flash to turn on in all modes except the C mode. I read something about you can't use flash in 4Kburst mode. How do I turn this off or what am I missing. I cannot turn flash on in any mode except the C mode. Can anyone help me?
I bought a TZ80 recently but it's far too complicated for me, as I'm just a casual photographer. For example what's the red "motion picture" button for? Is "motion picture" just another word for videos?
+Camerahoarders I have a p610 which is very good, but looking for something small tz70,hx90, s9900, tz80 iq being the most important but realise there's not much between themm
Can it seriously only take 4k picture with burst and so on? Can't I only like take 1 single picture? I just want 1 simple 4K picture. Not 30 or 60 to choose from after pressing the button. I don't want any record thingy at all! Any tips? :)
How do I reach this numbers: JPEG 4896 x 3672 JPEG 3456 x 2592 JPEG 2400 x 1800 JPEG 4896 x 3264 JPEG 3456 x 2304 JPEG 2400 x 1600 JPEG 4896 x 2752 JPEG 3840 x 2160 JPEG 1920 x 1080 JPEG 3664 x 3664 JPEG 2592 x 2592 JPEG 1824 x 1824
I just bought a Nikon A900, which is similar, and I am going to return it for the same reason. Bad in low light, and really difficult for auto focus, yet a little Sony WX350 I had worked quite well in low light. I wonder if the TZ80 and Nikon share some new technology which is good for most things, but not autofocus in low light?
they put to many mega pixels on that sensor that is why it is noisy, get the tz-70 much better beast, why repalace what works with a worse model, nutt as a bloody fruit loop ..jeff..
Or you can just be gratful he took the effort of creating a review that can be understood by many more people. He could also just have made it in his native tongue
