Had 2 iterations of this device and both could not perform. Ran through all the settings in multipe scenarios and it really performs in 100% light, sunny beach days or at home. Tracking birds it fails miserably, semi low light birds are mushy no matter what FStop you use or Exposure value is set. ISO is its Kryptonite and it suffers with birds in shaded environments. Glad I had the opportunity to use the camera but just falls short in all areas, for me.
What NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT is the fact that the 400mm does not really give you that much beyond your eyesight focal length. According to Eye Doctors, the focal length of the human eye compared to a Full Frame camera lens is 50mm (FULL FRAME) this 1" sensor is about 5x smaller than the FF. When you zoom in on your YUUUGE 400mm you lose 200mm due to the sensor being so small. Here is the easiest way to see this.... - On a Tripod zoom out from 25mm to the same range your eyes see (using the LCD). It is right around 200mm using the LCD and in some cases further to 300mm. Once you have matched the same focal length as what you SEE read the focal range on the camera. The EVF(aka:Electronic View Finder) is cropped in so it makes a difference viewing your field of view but the LCD is a different matter🤔
What you could say is that the focal range on the camera, compared to the eye sight is around 175mm but I checked that out and only in the EVF. The LCD dramatically reduces the focal range by eliminating 250-300mm leaving the user with only 100/4x of zoom left. I don't consider that a benefit for $800
Lots of comments on social media along the lines of, "I would have foregone all these changes if they had just implemented weather sealing" For me and I know many others the biggest problem with the FZ1000, FZ1000ii and FZ2000 is not being able to use it anywhere that has a damp or dusty atmosphere. Retailers need to tell Panasonic about this on our behalf, just think how many more units you would sell if weather sealing was included?
David Lewis, I know you made this comment 2 years ago and I apologise that I'm only just responding. I would just like to say that I completely agree with you. I cannot understand why this and other Lumix cameras doesn't have weather sealing, especially when you consider that the FZ330 DOES have weather sealing, and, incidentally a 25-600mm optical zoom, not the 'huge' 400mm zoom that this camera has. It's like you're gaining some things with this camera and losing others, and I wish camera manufacturers would stop doing this! Anyway I just wanted to get that off my chest!
I'm not sure how to understand what panasonic did here. There used to be FZ 1000 then they came out with FZ 2500 (this one I own) and then FZ 1000 II. The newest is lacking ND filters plus manual focus ring compared to the FZ2500, also I noticed the only difference for video is the 120FPS in 1080p mode (this one looked actually pretty bad to me in the sample in the video). Any other owners of FZ1000 or FZ2500?
I have the FZ1000 and just got the FZ80. Fantastic camera! Now the FZ3000 is coming out and all three camera do the same thing. FZ80 has the smaller sensor, but I see so little diff between it and the FZ1000 that makes the FZ80 the camera to buy these days.
I used the fz1000 for some slow mo shoots and it's always very noisy, you need a lots of light the get any usable footage. And honestly, for the money, you might want to try Sony A6400/Fuji XT-30, or for a little more money, their GH5
Don't laugh but I just bought a used fz200 with its tiny sensor and 12 megapixels and I'm getting great pictures. The fz300 adds 4k and is weather sealed! I think sensor size is only a piece of the equation. The constant 2.8 zoom is a huge advantage and the lens is wonderful.
Hello and thanks for The video Can you tell me if theres too much differences in between the FZ2000 model? Except the zoom I don’t see anything else... Which one do you recomend to an all around travel use? Is there any heavy reason to choose one or another?
Mate, you talk waytoofast, hammering your words out in unintelligible bursts of sound. What's your hurry? Don't you want people to understand what you say? Slow down!
I love my FZ1000! This was such a disappointment, not a real upgrade at all, you don't mention any new features at all! Pathetic review, reading advertising brochure really.
Thanks for the review. Nothing on a coming "FZ2000 / 2500 mark II", "G3 X mark II"? Would like to see other videos on... to compare the FZ1000 M2 with : RX10 M4 G3 X FZ2000/2500 V-Lux 5. Thanks.
Panny should have made it a constant aperature and weatherproofed it. And/or increased the focal length to 600 and placed a m43 sensor in it to handle some low light issues w/ additional AI.
@fukthegoogWell, Panny can compete with Sony if they want to in this segment. Consumers will pay for quality especially for the features I mentioned and the Lecia lens branding. The current upgrade isn't enough for me to trade up. Thanks for the feedback👍
@fukthegoog my understanding is that Sony has a Zeiss lens which is great too. I am looking forward to Panny's Full frame. I hope Lecia & Panny ensure high quality from Sigma w/ the L mount alliance. Time will tell. The bridge cameras are great gateways to various systems.
Have you fixed the FZ1000 erratic zoom problem and also the issue of focus hunting with lens set to 300-400mm, both these annoyed me and have seen comments from well informed experts on the Web, would be a great improvement to usefulness of the camera if these issues have been solved
Supposedly the focus hunting and zoom issues have been addressed according to Panasonic. From Tech Radar “There's also a new Zoom Composite Assist feature, which is designed to keep a lock on a subject as you zoom the lens to prevent the camera from losing it.” Time will tell.
Hi Good Review - may I know if it can works with a powerbank as now it is usefull for many camera "see Sony" . Which kind of battery does it use and I repeat can this camera works with a powerbank by usb ?
No one seems to Mention the 4K Time Lapse over the standard 1080p….what a game changer in 4K. Then there are the different Video Formats and in Manual/Video you have all the adjustments you have with the still photos such as Aperture, Exposure, ISO, White Balance, Exposure Metering, spot and Zone focus…..incredible for an all in one…
I just purchased one of these from you. It's great, but wondering i there is a function to change the control ring direction when zooming and focussing.. Many thanks.
FZ1000 is a great camera that works for me in any situation, but I have 1 problem with it - manual focus, the ring just can't do it accurately enough, is it fixed in mark II?
Harsh colors, lack of sharpness (especially when zoomed in), a lot of visible noise - all this makes the footage from this camera really unpleasant. Impressive zoom is the only positive side of this cam.
Hi there I am going on Holiday on Friday to Spain and am taking this camera 📷 with me can you recommend best settings for Photos and Video for me to get maximum from my Memory card installed??
When I spotted the phrase "hands-on review" in the search results, I immediately picked this video because I was expecting *MUCH* more than just showing a couple of nature stills and a product sitting on a tripod. A big disappointment.
How big is the crop in 4k? On the FZ1000 I you get 36mm wideangle (instead of 25mm) as it takes the middle 8MP of the sensor for 4k video. Is is the same with the FZ1000 II?
muchas gracias por tu video me fue de gran ayuda. por tu video me decidi por comprar esta camara.. ya la venia viendo desde hace dias.. recien la acabo de pagar por internet.. ahora a esperar mi caja. saludos desde ciudad de guatemala.
Hi, the main upgrades from the mark 1 model are: - Improved buffer for continuous shooting - New features like Post Focus, Focus Stacking - Slightly bigger EVF - Touch Screen + higher resolution - Bluetooth integration - Improved battery life - USB power charging - Slightly smaller and lighter - New film simulation modes Hope that helps :-)
I'm seriously considering this camera. What about dustproofing and water or splash resistance though? Is the FZ300 better sealed? It may not have some of the other advantages, but for me dustproofing and weather resistance are important.
I have the FZ1000 and I wish I had never bought it ... the battery and card access is blocked when using a tripod, which is often. I absolutely hate this and I don't say that lightly, it's frustrating beyond words ... and I can't believe such a bad design is on a Panasonic bridge camera which wasn't cheap when it came out! Does the mark II have better placement of battery and/or SD card?
I have the same problem ... not a great design for a Tripod, they should make an adaptor that you can easily slide on any tripod that gives a person access to the battery etc.
Hi, the FZ1000 II is £769 and you can view it on our website here: www.parkcameras.com/p/P012711L/bridge-cameras/panasonic/lumix-fz1000-ii-digital-camera-black Thanks for watching :-)
