The Panasonic Lumix DMC-G7 has a 4K (mp4) video recording time limit of 30 minutes by default. With this method you can remove this time limit and record as long as you want in 4K video mode. You are only limited by the size of your SD card. This method works for the US model of the G7, I don't know if it will work with European models. This method does not remove the MP4 time limits for the 1080p modes. If you want to record for a long time in 1080p, an easy way is to use the AVCHD format.
▶Instructions:
1: Camera off
2: Adjust Dials: Single Shot Mode & ‘P’ Mode
3: Hold 3 buttons:
WB (Right button)
Display
AF/AE Lock
4: Turn On Lumix G7
5: Go to Playback Mode (Green Play Button)
6: Hold ISO (Up Button) and AF/AE Lock
7: Turn Off Camera
You should get a Warning symbol (!)
That’s it! Turn camera back on, and enjoy NO TIME LIMIT (other than SD card size) for 4k videos.

3: Turn Camera On
4: Hold Menu/Set & WB (Right Button)
5: Turn Off Camera
6: Press WB (Right Button) 2 times
7: Turn Camera ON. You are back to factory default.

note to european G7 users: it does not work on my german and as far as i know of another camera from denmark. you unlock 4k 30fps but it remains with the 30 mins record limit.

Using this method in July of 2023. Worked like a charm. Different Panasonic camera, mine is a Panasonic LUMIX FZ300 Long Zoom and STILL WORKED. Would assume it's the jailbreak method for all Panasonic cameras. Can't state how huge finding this video was for me. You deserve like a medal or a holiday or something Thank you

Have you tried recording on your Lumix G7 for an hour of 4k? What about overheating? Than, have file break disappeared? I heard G7 breaks a video file for every 4 GB. How it works after limits are removed?

I just shot my first video podcast (3 camera setup with 3 Lumix G7s). I knew something would go wrong so I prepared my guest. And dang, I was upset to see I only had 20 minutes of video on all of my cameras recorded. In my glorious newbiness, I didn't realize there was a recording limit. This is so helpful. Thank you! I'll be better prepared for my next podcast.

Enjoy, keep in mind this only affects the 4K setting. If you want over 30 minutes with 1080p, change the format from mp4 to AVCHD.

You mentioned in a reply you have or had a G85 and by formatting the card to exFat the G85 no longer splits video files. I wonder if if it's also the case with the G80 (EU model) as well as the recording limit fix in your tutorial. Also did you still have the video file split on the G7.

I’ve got the warning ⚠️ sign. But it’s still 20m20s. I have a 32 GB SD card. Maybe that’s the problem. I’m going to get a higher memory to see. Thanks. It was straight to the point.

Oh geezz um I think I use a smartphone since I obviously couldn't use the Lumix. Probably a Samsung Note 5 in 4K I think, or may have been a Windows Lumia 1520.

it worked but for whatever reason it breaks the video into 6 min segments. Anyone else have this problem? Wouldn't be that much of a problem but it does cause a slight audio blip once they are all put back together.

Tried this on my Lumix FZ300 out of curiosity, as the controls are more or less the same. And it worked! Removed the 29min limit on 4K video, now appears to be limited by the SD card.

Sven Joest, Do you have a USA model of the FZ300 which is an NTSC version? If you have a PAL version of this camera (25 and 50fps video framerate), that is why the time limit wasn't removed.

That's why the service mode didn't work for you. I have a USA G7 and it worked but I read that if it was a PAL version (25 fps) then the hack won't work.

Hey thanks alot but I know this has to do with some tax related things to sell it as the photo camera and not the recording camera..but doing this hack can void the warranty? I know I might sound bit dumb but any changes in the background that might impact the warranty conditions..please help me if u know anything about it...Although I shoot cover songs or just about to start short movies but yeah I won't be having any clip recorded over 5 mins for cover songs or say few seconds shot for clips..But I might start tutorial videos and then unlocking the limit would help me..

Thank you. This works 100% with the Korean version. I think G7's that shoot in 50 or 25 hz (European version) does not support this hack. Any other G7 that shoots in 60 or 30 hz support this hack. PAL vs NTSC.

Hey great video, I have been searching for 2 days how to factory reset my new lumix g7. I purchased this camera after doing a lot of research I meaning need it for blogging on RU-vid. The issueI had with it. Is that when trying to film the monitor would switch to zoom mode so everything was recording very close up. not good for youtube. I was thinking to return it. But I'm going to try to Factory reset it 1st to see how I get on. I let you know later today. THANK YOU
