I loved this video. Thank you. I found it as I am interested in the S9, but the lack of pancake lenses has put me off. I have watched all your videos and have an A7C2, but like the look of the stabilisation on the S9 as a travel camera. I would love to hear your thoughts on the 26mm, but understand videos take a lot of time to make. Happy shooting.
@cdwc Thank you, I really appreciate your encouraging words 😀 I've been meaning to test the Panasonic 26mm f8, but it's just not that easy to get it in Korea at the moment. I'll eventually get it and test it at some point in the future. And as for the IBIS.. S9's "on the move" stabilization is definitely better than Sony's but not by a huge margin. It's still not gimbal-like. But as for stationary tripod-like shots, there's no competition. It literally feels like I'm using a tripod sometimes.
@@lfcruzsierra That 18-40mm looks like the best match for the S9. Way smaller than the current 20-60mm kit. Definitely getting it when comes out for sure!
@@camera.mellow That is very interesting regarding the stabilisation. All the reviewers say the stabilisation is gimbal-like and I never quite trust them. I hope you continue to make photography videos and thank you for taking the time to reply.
@@cdwc it's not as good as a gimbal but you can get gimbal like shots with it. It's definitely the best of the bunch and boost I.S is awesome if you need tripod like shots. I love my S9 so far
Hmm, I'm surprised the vignetting wasn't worse. Those lenses were made specifically for an old soviet half frame camera called 'Chaika'. I bought one myself for use on one of the tiny Panasonic micro four thirds bodies, and its not great on that regardless of getting a bit of a crop. The $50 7Artisans 18mm f6.3 cap lens does quite a bit better in fact.
There was some terrible vignetting at first, but since it's a Half-Frame lens, and the S9's Full-Frame, I had to use the APSC mode. That got rid of some vignetting, and then when I used real-time LUTs, some of the LUTs do a lot better job of hiding the vignetting than others somehow.
I liked this video.. Gained you a new subscriber for sure. As I was watching, I liked the idea of the soviet lens....but then I saw the part about the aperture and I was like welp, not trying that lol. Cool experiment tho ! Lastly, I think that video clip at the 6:05 mark was pretty cool. I like that the best out of the bunch of photos and clips. Something about it just looked cool, the image had layers to it, colors on point, and you could see some separation in the image, cool look ! Think I'm just gonna get the Sigma 45mm for my S9, and just call it a day. Cheers !
Thank you so much for your compliments 😄I really appreciate it! Yeah, the aperture control is really the deal breaker for me. If the image quality was any better, I might still try using it more, but I think there are just too many better options out there. The Canon Serinar 28mm/35mm series that another person suggested looked really good. 35mm f2.8 is $230 on eBay, so I might just try that and make a video about it in the next few weeks ☺
Oh, right 😅 I do gloss over that part... This particular lens was released as a half-frame lens, so basically an APSC crop lens in today's terms. So, even though S9 is a full-frame camera, you have to apply the 1.5x crop mode when using this lens. Otherwise, there's a heavy vignetting around the whole image. Thanks for pointing it out.👍 I should've been more clear about that part.
Thanks for posting this video. It would be interesting to compare this lens to a Canon Serenar 28mm f3.5 ltm lens. While it’s not quite a pancake lens it is very small and avoids some of the ergonomic issues you raised with the Industar lens. It is a bit more costly but not overly expensive and you already have the adapter. Just a thought. Thanks again.
Thank you for the recommendation! Canon Serenar 28mm looks way better exterior wise. It's in a different class than the clunky old Industar 69. It looks like there's a whole new world of manual focus lenses that I wasn't aware of before. I kind of stumbled upon Industar 69, and was disappointed that the quality wasn't to my liking, but I'm so glad that I took a chance on it. Since it led me to making this video, and got me getting great recommendations from viewers like you 😄
@@camera.mellow , all the thanks go to you as you took the time to try out the Industar and share a video about it. I just got the S9 and am looking forward to trying out various vintage lenses with it. Maybe I’ll get motivated to share my experience(s)!
Wow that one's interesting. Looks like its build quality's much better, and the picture quality is quite good according the reviews. I might actually get it. Thanks for the recommendation!
