A meeting of Maestros presented by Brooklyn Raga Massive (BRM) : June 8, 2014
Pandit Krishna Mohan Bhatt and Pandit Anindo Chatterjee in this improvised rendition of Raga Kafi play two original Bandish compositions set to medium and fast Teental, a rhythmic cycle of 16 beats, taking us on an exciting musical journey expressing inner joy,Viraha and Shringar Rasa, the sentiments of separation and union of lovers through their innovative interpretations of the Raga.
Raga Kafi is one of the most popular ragas of Hindustani (Indian) Classical Music system. A source of many beautiful melodies that have been composed in this raga for centuries by various maestros of different Gharanas (musical traditions).
Raga Kafi has come to us from folk music tradition. It uses Komal Ga and Komal Ni (minor third and minor seventh) in the scale, equivalent to ancient Greek Dorian mode and possesses predominantly a romantic mood.

Kirshna Bhatt doesn't get the recognition he deserves as one of the leading exponents of the Nikhil Bannerjee style of playing. Thanks for posting this superb performance.

10000000 Salutes to both of these Living Maestros. My eyes were unable to stop crying when Kafi touches my soul and make me feel that I am already in heaven itself and will remain here as far as those legends will continue their legacy through Indian Classical.

20:22 to 20:56 .....it is called paran (परन) in tabla. And he used pattern of Delhi gharana in which bol of dagga (base part) is mostly used...

I love the way they communicate with each other via expressions during play. Very similar to watching Spanish guitar legends Paco De Lucia and Al Di Meola perform together, and just as much talent!
