Interesting debate.. But, a slight correction to what Ms. Sabitha Radhakrishnan said on the type of rice used in biryani in Kerala and Tamilnadu . I agree that in Tamilnadu, seeraga samba rice is preferred in biryani instead of basmati . But, in Thalasseri and Calicut biryani, the rice used is jeerakashala or wayanadan kaima rice. Both rice are different. Jeerakashala is short grain, fragrant rice. More fragrant than basmati.
