I AM A DIEHARD FAN OF PANIC! AT THE DISCO AND I AM EXTREMELY OFFENDED BY this extremely underwhelming album that you have reviewed accurately. Keep up the good work, Mark.

Noah Weisbrod Definitely. Pray for the Wicked is overblown, uninteresting and slightly bland, but honestly decent with a few catchy songs. MANIA is a piece of utter horseshit.

I am a rather big fan of Panic, but I can totally understand where you’re coming from. This album felt different (not in a good way) but at the same time it felt the same. I’m not sure how to describe it. It didn’t feel as much like Brendon being himself, and instead felt like him being just another pop singer. With his massive amount of talent, he is NOT just another pop singer, but this album didn’t really do him justice.

I'm a pretty diehard Panic! fan but i agree this album is barely passable. The only redeeming quality is Brendon Urie's constant desire to sell the album with his vocal style. I like some of the deep cuts and Say Amen but the whole thing just feels phoned in.

Here's my thoughts. I think this is the first panic album that actually stuck with me. I like the anthemic theatrical sound of it and I think it legit hits the mark, but only a fluke since it was rushed. Also, Brendon has this issue of getting high when making lyrics with his producers so that explains the sometimes strange lyrics. Remember that explaining isn't justifying, but most of the lyrics are tolerable, luckily. Even roaring 20s isn't that bad to me, and I'd consider it one of the best tracks on the record. I like how the track king of the clouds portrays being high as a godly or heavenly experience aesthetically rather than being trippy or druggy like how most songs of the subject would portray it. Silver lining is a track I'm super torn on because while it has such a good beat that sounds like a banging anime OP, it's also full of whitegulrturnupmusic lyrics in the verses talking about cherries non stop and it's really unlistenable there. There's also old fashioned which ironically kicks off with trap hi hats and also recycles the exact same guitar melody from the second verse of say amen, making this one the worst track on the record. However I do like the strange trumpet sequences in the verses. The overpass sounds like yet another jpop anime opening but probably more fitting for cowboy bebop, while silver lining or hey look ma I made it fit maybe boruto or lucky star or some shit. Say amen is so slick in its production all the way through and is easily one of the best bangers on the album, toe to toe with King of the clouds. The only issues I have is that Brendon needs to stop getting high every session, he needs to put more time into the record, and he should have a better grasp on the wheel. Maybe it's time to fuel the car with so,e gas and not fucking ramen noodles anymore. However, the record still holds itself up as a fantastic final product, and I still enjoy a good portion of it. I'm feeling a strong 7 to a light 8 on this one.

Anyone else distracted by the fact that the verses of Old Fashioned sound goddamn identical to the second verse of Say Amen? It sounds like he copy/pasted it in, changed the tempo, added an aggravated goose, and hoped no one would notice.

Panic! is one of, if not my favorite band of all time, but holy crap do I have to agree with you. I don't think it's awful, but considering the quality of the material we've heard in the past, it's just not cutting it for me. Say Amen, The Overpass, and Dying in LA were my favorite tracks too, but even those I couldn't see rivaling my favorite tracks off of Vices or any Panic! album for that matter. I found King of The Clouds to be an enjoyable track, I think the atmosphere it creates with some of the vocal effects is pretty cool, but I see where you're coming from. I would've given it a 5 or a light 6 out of 10, I'm sort of hoping that the reception will be a cue to switch directions because I want them to succeed.

In my opinion: ‘Pray For The Wicked’ by: ‘Panic! At the Disco’ is one my top favorite albums of all time. The whole album from my perspective tells a story of the cruelty of fame and riches as a celebrity, starting as an innocent dream of a child with high hopes that started to become a living nightmare you couldn't escape from. Many ‘Panic! fans’ consider it to be way to different and cheesy than the other albums Panic! At The Disco & Brendon Urie has released but honestly: The instrumentation with the horns, trumpets, violins, cellos, layered in with synthesizers, spicy sounds, and hot drum beats are the musical themes of this album. The music rangers from happy & upbeat to at times sad and melancholic. Brendon Urie always sings about how he is never gonna give up and he’s not gonna make a killing, and he’s gonna be the greatest. It really gives you high hopes and hypes you up. The Frank Sinatra feels through Brendons voice & the James Brown/ Funk & Soul feels through the trumpets & horns, just blend very well together throughout this album to me. Brendon Urie’s vocal solos are mind blowing especially on the song: ‘Say Amen (Saturday Night.)’ Brendon’s vocal solos throughout the final song: ‘Dying In L.A’ don’t really bother me. It just gives the song a catchy & upbeat feel in the middle of all the emotion of the song. This album really sparked Brendon Urie’s career as a singer, he became so well know because of this album. What can I say it’s an album that will always stick with me. Like Brendon Urie said himself about the album: ‘This album is dedicated to you, the fans. You have given and continue to give me inspiration for my own art. I learn from your passions and your hopefulness you share with me and each other, let’s keep spreading love. Here’s to you.’ Signed: ‘Brendon Urie’

I hate how the album felt very rushed and over-polished; the horns have no meat to them and everything feels too squeaky clean. And of course, Brendon's near-gloating and self-aggrandizing personality doesn't help in the lyrical department on top of the already messy, incoherent writing.

In the event of "Hey Look Ma, I Made It" souring on you so intensely by the end of 2019 to the point of topping your "Worst Hit Songs of 2019" list, can this parent album even scrimp by a "light 5/10" anymore?

I like it as a summertime album. It's a celebratory partner release to Death Of A Bachelor. I bet a lot of these songs are great live, with better production and a band really playing it. I imagine in 3 years time Brendon will think up a new incarnation of the band and the critics will be back on this band's side, but until then I'm gonna enjoy PFTW for what it is, a good time celebration of Panic having finally become probably as popular as they'll ever be, and imo having still retained their character, even if newer work is much more mainstream, no other mainstream group sounds quite like these guys (this guy).

I agree this album was just ok. I didn't become a huge fan until the 3rd album. I'll probably still listen to it, but it's not my favorite. Honestly, I thought the release date was going to be in December/ January, but it was in June. Idk there was no build up to the release it was just kind of thrown at us. I was confused. I went to one of the shows for this tour, and I personally think the somgs from this album sounded better live, but he didn't perform that many songs off of this album live, which I thought was a bit odd. Idk if I'll be buying this album.

By far the weakest and the worst album I have heard from Panic! At the Disco yet. The only songs that I enjoyed were High Hopes, Dying in LA and Say Amen. Listening the album through and through, I was getting really pissed off of hearing the instrumentations; overproduced EDM sounds and basic overblown horns. I am just glad Urie decided to release the best songs as singles before this sellout record. So upsetting to see say this because I know they are capable of much better. Light 4 out of 10 for me. Absolutely no recommendation from me (except for those die hard fans because I know they will love this album...ugh.)

I think this is the best album from Panic!/Brendon Urie thus far for me. I could find all of the tracks interesting and overall good, with only One Of The Drunks being the weakest song off the album, and it's not even that bad for me. I love the jazzy, alt pop rock sound a lot, and that is what sets me into this album. And Dying In LA grew on me a lot, probably becoming one of the best songs off the album.

Easily the weakest of their albums yet. Never been a huge fan of them, but I’ve definitely enjoyed previous material. This one just is pretty basic, and undercooked. The instrumentation just comes off as awkward, and lyrically, the album is as poor as it gets. I feel like this isn’t really different from a lot of pop music; it just disguises itself with overblown instrumentation and production. Not to its advantage though. 3.5/10 for me.

Maybe it's just the videos that I happen to click on, buy your rating scale seems to have no variation. I would say more than 50% I watch seem to end up as a 5 or 6. Should be a bell curve but a flatter one, it seems you have to hate an album for it to be less than a 5, but really anything more positive than negative should be down there.

He's given mostly 5-6 in like the past 2 weeks, and records under a 5 are definitely uncommon (most records that bad aren't big enough for him to cover, and many of them wind up on the training edge) but there's a reason his best and worst lists have so much competition. The amount of 7-9s he gives is pretty considerable.

If an artist wanted to criticize industries and other artists for releasing shitty music to make money, how would they convey their message by doing the exact same thing? Again not trying to be rude, but Brendon sold his soul to the mainstream years ago ever since he first started having a majority of songs from DOAB being played on numerous commercials, unlike previous albums where typically only one single was used for commercials (Victorious and Golden Days are good examples). Ultimately, this is the sad path that Brendon has decided to take, and I’m afraid that we’re never going to get a genuinely well-crafted album from this “band” again unless if Brendon will actually utilize his musicianship and/or allow other members to be a part of the f*cking band and creatively contribute.

Ethan Bales probably true.. it makes sense and I haven't really seen the rest of the band members actually being a part of anything... I don't even know if panic at the disco is really a band anymore
