**GET READY FOR STARDOM!!** "CALEB," is the only "super-young" drummer I have seen since "Avery Molek" and myself. I, after touring in support of way too many other acts as a professional "gun for hire" drummer and even my own band(s,) don't recall seeing such dedication to one's craft of drumming!! Also, I dare say that Caleb vs. Avery at the same age that Caleb is now, Caleb is about six or seven wrungs up the ladder than Avery was, ALSO.... I SAY THAT WITH COMPLETE RESPECT FOR AVERY!!!!! AS NOW... Avery, like Caleb and myself will spend the rest of their lives behind a drum set!!! I know how hard that can be, mostly because of the "stuff," or "things" that come with this business we call, "The music industry!!" I am currently old enough to be Calebs grandfather..... ( LOL... 😂, yeah, I am an old guy!! ) This industry gets in your blood, and there is no turning back!!! Sooooo, Caleb when you read this comment kiddo, please, please, please... stay away from all those distractions that are in our industry!! Stay focused son, you do that, and more than likely... Alright- so as a professional guitarist here, you've obviously got a kiddo that has the talent to play with ANYONE IN THE INDUSTRY. Not quite yet, as he needs to learn how to groove with a full band, communicate with them and travel on the bus- but that's what I'd like to give him some pointers on. So- talent. Check. However, he WILL go in for auditions. Here's what I've learned from my both failed and passed auditions in 3 different genres: it depends more than anything else on A) How much you get along with the band. Remember- these guys are looking at you going "can I spend 23 hours a day on the bus with this guy?" So be yourself, but make sure they know you know how to keep your mouth shut, not make any noise and just go with the flow along with the rest of he band. B) Make sure you LITERALLY groove with the band. A lot of this times, the may just have a jam session with you after they have you play a few of their songs with them. Again- just be yourself. Jam along. Make sure that, just like when/if you're playing their songs with them, that you're loose, but also that you can be tight, Show them that you can do the Bonham thing and play a FAT rhythm right off the beat.... in other words- show them some diversity. Also- assume they've seen drummers that are technically more proficient than you, as there's a good chance they have, believe it or not. DO NOT SHOW OFF. They've watched probably all of your videos on Facebook and that's what brought them to you, ergo they know how much you can shred. DO NOT do it while you're playing their songs. MAYBE a little bit while you're warming up (though you should've warmed up probably 3 hours before you can in already) but DON'T center ANY full bars around a show-offy fill, or make any of them any kind of noticeable over the rest of the band DURING THE AUDITION. You'll have PLENY OF TIME IF YOU GET THE AUDITION TO SHOW OFF THEN, AS A MEMBER OF THE BAND!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway- that's what I can think of. Anyone wanna add anything to it? Because, kid- I'm telling ya... with those chops at EIGHT YEARS OLD, you could be playing for a band like Avenged, LOG, or even bigger in the pop and pop/rock scene. Main thing is- make sure you're ALWAYS playing with a BAND you like, that you like the band's MUSIC, and that the singer isn't a Diva. These things will get old VERY fast. NOW- I'M ASSUMING THAT YOU WANT TO DRUM AS A CAREER. If you want to, these pointers will be helpful. I've always left out how unbelievably hard it is traveling first typically on a fart-box 15-passenger van. No glamour there. You'd better be in it because you love the music. If not, you're gonna crash and fail and grow tired of touring after a FEW WEEKS. For real. ANYWAY- come on guys, chime in. Give the kid some advice!
I grew up as a drummer like you kid... I'd assume you also started with pots and pans and wooden spoons like me... anyways, never give up bud, you've got a gift, share it with the world as long as you can!
Hi Caleb, I watched your videos and I think your the best drummer in the world your such a natural drummer phenomenon I really admire and respect you, I am learning how to play drums to and you are really inspiring and motivating me to practice a lot everyday, I hope I can play like you someday. keep up the amazing job you are sooo awesome !!!!
