The Panormitis monastery is situated on the sea front of the tiny village of Panormitis, on the southern coast of Symi island. The old monastery is completed in a Venetian style, with a high baroque bell tower and the long white facade. The church is dedicated to Archangel Michael and contains a silver-leafed representation of Archangel Michael, patron saint of Symi and protector of sailors.
The main way to get to the monastery is via a ferry or excursion boat from another island. If you are already on Symi island, Panormitis can be reached by road from Symi Town in an hour or so via taxi if you are lucky enough to find one. Entrance is free and expect an hour to see the 2 museums and the church. This is one of the most famous monasteries in Greece.
