I’m 43 yrs old and have been to A LOT of concerts and still to date when I saw Pantera at the Roxy Theater ( small club ) in Atlanta GA back on Friday November 22nd 1991 on Cowboys from Hell tour before they were famous was the best show ever ! I’ve never been a mosh pit guy but damn I was that night, I had a white shirt on and I remember having blood stains all over it after concert. Was because everybody had carpet burns on knees and elbows from mosh pit.

hipeanut a lot of people don't realize that Pantera has a lot of grooves, and Phil practically raps on a lot of the songs. This is why hip hop heads are picking up on Pantera, because guys who listened to both are picking out the right songs for them. Sadly, too many fans are suggesting thrash and other styles that are pointless and selfish suggestions to bridge the gap, and it simply won't work. I keep telling metal heads to listen to groups like Eric B and Rakim, Onyx, and Wu-tang if they want gritty, grimy and aggresive rapping, but people keep suggesting songs that turn people off. My metal head friends end up digging Rakim and groups like Wu-Tang. They seem to also like Redman, and even KRS-ONE

Those end notes where Phils screaming " Gates" and Dimes harmonics to match them, Chills every fucking time. Especially on that last harmonic that ends the song, you actually feel it. Goddamn.
"Cemetery Gates" is like a movie you can watch a million times. Like anytime you're flipping through the channels and it's on, you stop and watch it. You know all the lines, you know everything that is coming, but you still watch it and it still gets you.
Dimebag Darell, Dave Mustaine and Chuck Schuldiner are 3 of the greatest all-round guitarists and song-writers in the world of metal. The gods and forefathers of 3 different styles of metal, and 2 of them are no longer with us. Pantera put the 'H' in HEAVY METAL. You GOTTA check out 'Good Mourning Black Friday' by Megadeth, has an intro with a similar style to Cemetary Gates with some of the most soulful solos you will ever listen to. The only difference is it transitions into something you would NEVER picture the song to head towards at the beginning.

I was talking about *ALL ROUND GUITARISTS AND SONG-WRITERS* a.k.a people who are phenomenal at all aspects of both departments. *James is a better song writer than Dave* ----> I would like you to come back after James writes an entire masterpiece of an album all by himself. James hardly ever writes an entire song all by himself, much less a whole album from start to finish like Dave does. Dave writes WAY more material to Megadeth than James ever did for Tallica. Also, you again missed *ALL ROUND GUITARISTS AND SONG-WRITERS* . Dave is a better guitarist overall than James, that should be as obvious as 1 + 1 = 2.
+Mantra Robinson James is a great riff-writer, but Dave is just better than him IMO in everything ( song-writing, general musicianship and guitar playing of course ) except for vocals. James has hardly ever written an entire song without help from Lars. Even Cliff used to write a lot of epic riffs for Metallica back then.
Sainandan Ramakrishnan James is just writes better songs than Dave.. sorry.. sure Dave may be better technically but imo James writes better riffs and songs... obviously not solos

I started listening PANTERA 25 years ago I was 16. I saw them as my first concert at Québec city couple years later during their Mouth for war tour. I was in love with their beat without understanding the lyrics cause I didnt speak english at that time. The day I begin to understand the language was like a rebirth for me. I was amazed by the deepest of the lyrics realizing that metal was not only agressive music but also emotional, philosopal, political and intellectual. Its really entertaining to see you react to all those band I love. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Lamb of God Omerta from the Killedelphia live album. Or Overloard from Sturm Und Drang. Omerta is just a kick your ass metal track and Overlord is similar to Cemetary Gates. Starts slow with clean vocals then it melts you're face. Great video man thanx

I second your opinion Robert. DD is the greatest metal lead guitarist of all-time. There is a lot of good ones but Dime sets the standard with heavy and fast. Pure genius.
My reaction to Pantera back in 90 while in Jr.. High was a reaction of the 80's hair band style phasing out and listening for anything that would fill a void and BOOM a small band from my home state of Texas hits the scene and from then ...... no looking back. I love the sound more today than back then. Like a well aged wine...... just gets better. Thank you for your openness to review and react so positively to it. This music shaped who I am as a musician !
saw pantera back in 1996 in western australia, such an awesome concert, the band really has fun onstage and interacts with the crowd, and of course a brutal mosh pit
I find myself appreciating so much how much you appreciate it. Keep exploring what I grew up with it was awesome. Being a low middle class kid expected to succeed in life, hard work was a must, so this music was a release valve to get out the stresses of the grind. And it worked
