actually at 1:18 he misses the last up stroke palm mute and mutes the 5th strum and omits the 6th. there are actually 6 strums and dime always played the 6th with an upstroke that was palm muted. he misses it every time the chorus is played too... if you've ever tried to palm mute an upstroke it is actually very awkward. but yeah I've spent years perfecting every little detail of dime's style and thats one of them.
jes dude that's very specific, i asume you played a bunch of songs of them? you should check mine and give me intel of what's fucked lol, i'd love that, jes if you noticed a mistake on kenny's cover then i guess mine is bad...
yeah I spent about 7 years learning pantera songs and perfecting them to the last millimeter how dimebag played them. I perfected his technique but not his tone. There's something about it which I cannot replicate especially with the chorus of cemetery gates. dimebag said that for all of the recordings he activated his wah pedal and set it to a specific depth and kept it there which I do, but there is that extra little squeakiness he has which I have yet to replicate, oh well I digress. btw i checked your channel and I don't see any videos of you uploaded
That end solo I play for my 6yr old daughter when she cant sleep. I just plug my guitar into the small amp I have in there and play it in repeat. My daughter deserves only the best lullabies. :)
Dimebag 4 ever Actually, my real surname is Moxley, and my middle name is Jonathan. It's a weird ass coincidence! But I actualy am a fan of him too, so it works out.
you know, I've seen a lot of Dimebag imitators, some good, some awful, and then there's you..People keep wanting a Pantera re-union. The name Zakk Wylde keeps coming up as the best person to fill Dimes shoes, and I strongly object. You my friend have a much better feel, tone and all around ability to fill those shoes. I am a Pantera fan through and through, and an even bigger Dimebag fan. no one can replace Dimebag, but if a re-union of sorts ever happens, get someone who can actually play his stuff with that kind of conviction he had. You got my vote, by the way..nice Dimebag tattoo!
That outro is somewhat scary, but yet beautiful, dimebag was something. Special, you my friend fucking nailed it! The outro makes me sad and think about dime, still wish he was here with us rest is peace my friend.
yeah it is a bit sad at the end but people will keep re-doing the guitars and doing guitar covers that is a hell of a way to be remembered. rest in peace dime bag you were a legend and sure as hell died a legend.
I feel the same about the outro. I even cried to that when i first heard this song. I just started to think that he died for no reason, we wasn't a bad person, he did nothing wrong. And also many non famous people die for nothing, being innocent. It was really depressing and hit me really hard.
The difference between everyone else and KG is not only skill (although his skills are unmatched) but soul. He puts his soul into these covers, something Dimebag talked about long time ago, this is the only way to properly cover Pantera imo
@@RedlineR24exactly, it’s crazy how many “guitar” players think the only thing that matters in music is technicality and speed, if that was true then Malmsteen would be the biggest most popular guitarist, but nope he has no memorable riffs/solo and his playing gets old fast, I can listen to Dime all day long everyday without it ever getting old
I dont know how to say this... This touched my soul! Dude its like dimebag has come back to life! The solo gave me goosebumps and my eyes got all teary! You sir made my day! Hats off man! Getcha pull! \m/
Farhan Karim i feel ya bra 100%. thats my all time fav song n this dude fuckin nailed it. if pantera ever decides to get bsck togegher, this is dime reincarnated!!!
Farhan Karim True dime fan, watching dime always tears me up, I wish I coulda met him, part of my personality is from dime, I was 14 when Vulgar came out, and already a metal guitar player, changed my life. Thx dime
wow. like everyone else on here, almost shed a tear during the solo and outro. I got the pleasure of seeing Dime play this live back in 2000 and it will forever be one of my fondest metal memories. thanks for keeping this beautiful music alive...
When you understand that it is 10 years ago, you look at the cover art of 'The Great Southern Trendkill' and you are listening to this song... You keep feeling broken inside. R.I.P Dime. You are a legend, man. We still hope for your salvation.
whenever there's a summer thunderstorm and afterwards the sun peaks through the clouds while it's still just sprinkling i hear this outro in my head. R.I.P. DIME
This is still the most badass cover of this song on RU-vid. I find myself coming here every now and then, just for the extended outro and the epic ending.
I want just a loop of this outro to play at my funeral. Dime is such an influential guitar player, even in death he can inspire many. May we all thank him for what he has given us and show him to future generations. Rest In Peace Dimebag
I can't get enough of this cover. I saw it for the first time a couple years ago and must've watched it 15 to 20 times. Pantera never really played this live so being able to hear it while getting a close up of how its played note for note with all the feel is a just awesome.
This is a really cool cover! Flawless guitar playing, great sounding distortion and clean. Kenny, this cover is the best of the best, if Darrell was alive, he probably called you to play with him in the same group! You worthy of the highest praise for this job!
Take care of those fingers my friend! They’re responsible for the closest Dimebag lead cover I’ve heard in a long while. I wish I could play that even half as well. Brilliant! 👍
I've watched this video like several times and I can't get over the fact that this was played with a start and ending. Most guitarist play the entire song but without including the closing part of the song showing that you know about music keys. Other than that, legit sick song! Well done!
Huge respect man. been playing guitar for 11 years now and you are without a doubt the best Dime-imitator i've ever seen. Would be a killer in a Pantera reunion, much respect brother!
Kenny, if you don't mind, where did you find that guitar? Just wondering if that was an actual Washburn or if you had it custom made, which is what I am looking into.
1:14 to 1:30 I always have SO much trouble stretching my fingers that far for those chords.. any tips suggestions on how I could improve it or all is all finger stretching exercising?
A good exercise is to grab an elastic rubber, wrap it around the fingers, and try practicing a while with it. When you get the rubber off, you'll feel more confortable stretching your fingers
Wow! Great cover, as per usual. Thanks for extending the outro. That's got to be one of the most beautiful guitar parts ever written. It's so emotional and deserves all the attention it can get.
