The moment Burgess dropped the ball the momentum swung. The only way you can defeat teams like Melbourne or Penrith is to not let them have the ball and when they do have it defend like your life is counting on it. Despite losing, there were still some good signs from Souths that they are capable of beating Penrith. I am not going to say we were robbed, but some of those penalties against Souths were pretty soft. When was the last time you saw a player penalised for giving someone a facial? and I would like to see the bunker used where crusher tackles are concerned because that was a fine bit of acting by that Penrith player. if a ball carrier turns and backs into the defender it should not be a crusher tackle penalty imo

11-2 penalty count in favour of Penri- Sorry. 11-2 penalty count in favour of Nathan Cleary, against the most disciplined side in the NRL this season (South's). But oh yeah, everyone still says South's fans are salty. I can accept Penrith played better and South's defence was not good enough, but the ref helping them back into the game is just not needed. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying South's deserved to win. Penrith were the better side no doubt. But South's weren't undisciplined to the point were 11 penalties were rightfully awarded.

Outstanding game panthers

I thought with the Penrith/Souths game it was a high quality match. First half, Souths were all over them and the two tries Penrith scored were class tries, they are ones you can do nothing about. Second half it was roles reversed, Penrith had all the ball, then the penalties started. Souths got hardly any ball in Penrith's danger zone. Souths will learn a lot about this game and will be ready for Penrith in week one.

shoutout to the people in the comments that preface their whinging about the ref every game with "I don't go for either of these teams btw!" as if its any rebuttal to accusations of bias lol, Souths were ill-disciplined, simple as that.

from a broncos fan if someone genuinely thinks panthers deserved that, they are kidding themselves, after the 25th minute ref and the box just went all penrith, the box nit picking penalties while not even seeing a clear offside when crichton scored, letting a forward pass (about 3 meters forward) to naden go and then penalising a crusher that naden put on himself, then when rabbit's start to get momentum there's a little penalty or leg up to penrith, just after 70th minute crichton clearly dropped and lost control of the ball, rabbit's would've used that opportunity, and they already had some momentum gaining, but the ref lets it go, just saying same thing wouldn't of happened for souths, it would've gotten pulled up.

The panthers on average concede 12 points a game...that makes souths....

Takeaways:- 1.Mansour's overconfidence got the better of him. He made the mistake of trying to humiliate a panthers player for dropping the ball and karma paid him a visit. 2. The Rabbitohs style of blindly running square into defence before kicking on the 5th doesn't work against good teams. 3. NRL want a Storm vs Panthers GF(just ask the ref). 4. Bennett bringing Benji on too late in games will cost the team going into the finals. (He needs consistent regular game time to play at optimum level). Furthermore if they want to keep Benji hanging by not renewing his contract in the hope they will get him for another bargain basement season then the least they could do is give him regular game time so he'll be playing good enough to put defences on notice going into the finals. 5. This win for Penrith may come back to haunt them in the finals wen they meet the Rabbitohs again. That's because the rabbits improved from the first time they played Penrith, which means the next time they play, the score will be very tight. I believe the Panthers will be sucker punched in the finals by either the Rabbitohs or another team in top 8.

Both teams defense is good but their attacking need to be worked on. Storms got both of them. However manley in full gear are the best at attacking but need to work on their defense.

Latrell was weak this game. He goes missing in the times when rabbits need him like when they are coming out of their won half. He lacked communication especially in the back when the ball was bombed.

Panthers played better.. Api.. well done!..

The penalty against Nicholls was rubbish. Referees hardly ever police the downtown rule and if they do they should at least warn the player that he is offside and remain out of the play. This bunker decision proves the NRL want to influence the outcome of matches.
