After the boundary between Singapore and Malaysia has been re-opened for fully-vaccinated travellers we planned and decided to visit the nearest birding spot to Singapore this June 2022 which is the Panti Bird Sanctuary. It is a small forest reserve in the lowlands of south-eat Johor; vegetation diverse including freshwater swamp and lowland dipterocarp forests, plus hill forests on the slopes of Gunung Panti and Gunung Muntahak. Most visitors access Panti from an old logging track, popularly known as 'Bunker Track'. You need a permit before going into the forest reserve at the nearby town of Kota Tinggi (forest rangers office) and you can apply via walk-in from Sun-Thu (closed on Fri-Sat).
We have recorded 42 local birds which includes Scarlet-rumped Trogon, Checker-throated Woodpecker, Grey-headed Canary-flycatcher, Pale Blue Flycatcher, Rufous-winged Philentoma, Red-billed Malkoha and many more.
Hoping that we can explore more and travel more new places before the arrival of the migration season. Thanks for watching and happy birding.
