That looks like an amazing sauce. I'm not sure why people think kids are deprived if they dont eat junk. People have become so unhealthy. Your family is so blessed to have you cook amazing and healthy food for them. Thank you for opening your home and your heart.
100% this! I actually had a pediatric endocrinologist upset and wanted to run test for deficiencies because my children don’t eat processed fortified junk food, but instead get home raised eggs & meats, fruits, some vegetables, and only small amounts of grains. Apparently, I am depriving them of processed, fortified foods.
@@ericpl7227not true at all. Just because you eat healthy doesn’t mean your kids should never see a dr! They still can get sick, they need shots and to check their growth and development
Jessica not only did you make your children a delicious meal, you made memories with them. They may not have realized it, but they also got a cooking lesson as well. You are a great mom and you know what is best and what works for your family.
Jessica, I was raised in a typical American household. Oxtail was one of the foods I had never heard of. When I got together with my husband who was Cuban my whole culinary world exploded. Oxtails is a delicacy in so many places in the world. It is also one of my favorite meats. So many people don’t understand that the meat they will grind up into hamburger or toss have the best flavors of the whole beef. The fillet is often the most cherished meat in the USA but really it has so little flavor, when compared to something like a skirt steak or an oxtail. Thank you for shared this with people I hope they give it a chance
The first time I had skirt steak was at my in laws house the first time I met them and omgoodness was it amazing. So we started buying it when we wanted steak but didn't want tips (which is our fave) and it was cheap but then everyone starting buying it and the price skyrocketed.
@@scenteddragronflywithmichelle it did the same here also. Skirt steak was super cheap for a while now it is on par with t-bone. I am doing a lot of cooking with the shank, lots of flavor but low and slow for cooking.
Morning, you are absolutely correct - the fake dairy cheese and vegan products are all highly processed foods with no nutritional value. I love your recipes and substitutions. Love from Boston!
I canned kidney beans a few weeks ago for the first time. I put some vinegar in the jars with water overnight as you suggested. My dad ate the jar that didnt seal and said they were the best canned beans he's ever had. Just wanted to say thank you and let you know i appreciate you and your channel. You got me to get into canning which is something i always wanted to try but you gave me the confidence 100%!! My family thanks you. Have a blessed week!!
Jessica, I know you know...there are some people who will say negative things about others because it is something they do not do and/or inspire to do. Be assured that there are many more people who love yours and Adam's lifestyle. I wish I was your neighbor. Even though I somewhat live like you, you and Adam take it to another level 😊. I always learn something from your videos. I always pray for you and other content creators who live lives similar yours. Your children have the best parents in the world. I have had ox tail before. Never knew it was ox tail until I was told what it was. It was good. I was raised in a family who hunted and fished. I guess after eating wild game, ox tail is nothing. 😋
Hi Jessica!!!! Great to see you this beautiful Sunday Morning! Praying for a wonderful week ahead for you and yours. Happy Home Church Day😊😊😊😊 Your Michigan Fan and Friend Araminta ❤❤❤❤
Oh, how I've missed your videos! ❤ love your tee shirt collection! 😊 What a great upcycle for your cellar! Your boys did a great job on the shelves. Happy Sunday!
I love the T-shirts too. I am still at least another year and a half to two years out from getting back out of maternity and nursing clothes, as well. This will be my last baby in August, at 43 years old. We thought we were done already. 😂 God has wonderful plans, however. As soon as I saw Jess’s T-shirts, I knew that weaning had begun!
Loved every minute. Your precious, precious children . God's blessings, sweet Jessica and Adam. Can't wait to see Gabe as he continues to embrace his roles in life. Everyone is so very special. I'm very proud of my family and watching grandchildren, etc, start new beginnings.
Also- I loved your “three musketeer” little boys at the end in their matching pajamas! The stories you will tell of these three active boys as the years go by!! God bless!
The food looked so delicious! I live in North Central Ohio. I want to get into my vegetable beds so badly. The moment I get ready the weather changes. I enjoy my raised vegetable beds. Can’t wait to see how you are planning yours this year! Thank you for all the wonderful ideas and encouragement you provide in your videos! 🌻
Have a very blessed weekend! I’ll be planting potatoes and Berry bushes, flower seeds & comfrey amongst our small orchard with my littlest girls today.
I love to try new things! Our neighbor, she’s in her 80’s, brought us over some poke. Also brought me her cookbook that talks about it! We are going to try “poke salad” for supper!
Maybe I’m just missing it but I do not see in other homesteading vlog families what I see in yours: a solid quality of life skill teaching to the children. You Jessica are really allowing and creating opportunities for your kids to practice lifeskills. And I’m a 65 year old grandma. Lifeskills are EVERYTHING. Everything. Well done mama! (I also appreciate that you don’t exploit your kids. I would prefer you don’t show them at all but I won’t nitpick. You doin it right).
That Oxtail soup looked DELICIOUS! I love how you have so successfully adapted recipes from nasty store-bought items into nutritious reasonable facsimiles. The kids are never deprived or left wanting for those things.
Oxtail is absolutely delicious! Who would think that it is disgusting? No one l know!❤❤ you are brilliant, BTW. God bless you all and ☦️ many prayers. Nurse 🙏🏻 🙏🏻 Judi in Scottsdale AZ and Eucharistic Minister ☦️
Jessica, I love recycling throw aways! I curb picked three kings size quilting batts!, in bags sealed, two Heidi Swapp, darling pink "make your pretty pink wall clocks", and a large roll of paintable wall covering. Also 10 new fancy jelly canning jars, two new boxes of lids and a new Ball magnetic lid lifter still in plastic/tags! Best score of 2024.
I enjoy the dairy free “cheese” sauce. I make mine with soaked cashews, red bell peppers for the color and nutritional yeast. It pours beautifully and if I want to slice for sandwiches I add agar seaweed powder. I have noticed the dairy free and vegan cheese and butter alternatives and it really is just oils. I’ll be trying the canned butter nut squash in mine. Thanks for the great idea.
For cabbage moths, what works best for me is making a stinky herb tea and spraying it on the plants every couple of days. I use whatever stinky herbs that I have - dill, basil, thyme, chamomile, sage, rosemary, marjoram....just make a tea with it, cool it and put it in a spray bottle. I also plant lots of dill and marigolds near the brassicas.
Thank you for showing your recipes; they are so inspiring. Once your brassicas out grow the netting, one tip to keep cabbage moths away, that I have found, is to grow cilantro around the brassica plants and let them bolt. They will provide a canopy over the plants that prevents the moths from landing on the cabbages.
I'm good with "redundant". It still inspires me. I'm new and have binge watched almost all of your vids. So info overload lol. Seeing things again but in new vids would help me remember and keep ideas at the forefront of my mind. Thanks Jessica!
I Love the T-Shirts sayings 😂 Oxtails are very Good and they are very expensive as well! I Love them 2-3 times a year 😂 Happy Gardening! Everyone have a Blessed Week🙏🏾! From Okc ❤
Good afternoon my dear friend, you are an exceptional mom!! Your creativity in the kitchen is unmatched!! Looking forward to next week with you, have a blessed week!
Jessica you truly have a beautiful family and they are blessed to have such a wonderful mother (and father) I was gifted 3 oxtails several weeks ago and I made the most amazing rich broth which I canned and then I stripped the bones and have canned the meat to either use for ourselves or for our pup. The colour of the broth is so rich and dark and I have already used some for meatballs and then strained it and used it again for stew, both were absolutely amazing. Your video's are my Sunday morning treat!. Lx
This brings back so many wonderful childhood memories. I grew up in a 10 family household too. I learnt so much from both my parents. I miss them dearly. You are making great memories while teaching your children. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Jessica. I watch your videos every week, thank you for the great content. You commented that you want to bring us new recipes every time. I wanted to let you know that it’s definitely okay with me to see repeat recipes. It reminds me of the things I could try and is always inspirational in MY meal prep. Have a wonderful week!
I grew up with Irish parents & grandparents so nothing was wasted in our family’s = from the head to tail can be used (history of great famine) We regularly had cooked liver, roasted stuffed hearts, fried chicken liver , leftover meat made into meat terrine ( we didn’t call it that back then think of meatloaf) boiled or baked & sliced for lunch with bread & pickles, great way to use up the small cuts of uncooked meat - loaf pan then layer the mixed uncooked meat, herbs, spices packed in well. Put a weight on & leave it in fridge for 12 hours, wrap in foil & slowly bake until cooked through (2-3 hours) leave to cool and then slice 👍 Ox tail is highly prized in most European / Caribbean countries, full of flavour & great source of collagen bone marrow. If you want to try something new try Jamaican oxtail recipe it’s amazing. Goat meat is another great source of quality lean meat & you get the milk which is fantastic for a non dairy family. My Nanna said that the only thing that couldn’t be used on a pig was the squeak lol
Just a sidenote that people with an actual dairy allergy often still cannot have goat milk, or any other kind of milk from a mammal. I believe Jefss has spoken to this in a previous video that he is anaphylactic to milk, period.
@@RestorationAcresTN absolutely majority of people who have total allergies regarding all Mammal milk will know this. Not everyone has the milk allergy
Looked great Ma'am! Well done. Can't believe some people that they would criticize making your own cheese sauce substitute....it looked good as did all the meals.
For the best dairy free recipes, pick up lactic acid. Mix with pureed roasted cashews and salt with a bit of nutritional yeast for the BEST cream pasta sauce. Alternately add some pickled pepper juice to make a great nacho cheese sauce. I bought 16 Oz bag and it's lasted me for years. Great investment and really brings that dairy flavor to non diary substitutes.
I don't know what those people are talking about feeding your children vegan cheese. You have beautiful healthy looking children, all a child needs is love fresh air and good food which you give them in abundance. Love your videos I learn something new from them every time I watch them. I guess at 72 years old your never too old to learn.
Your channel is just flat out my very favorite. I think your food videos are my most favorite though. We moved this year and probably can’t garden this year so I will live vicariously through yours. You are the epitome of the Proverbs 31 woman.
Another wonderful video. You are such a great Mom, homemaker and a true inspiration for so many! Your videos are so peaceful and calming to watch and we get lots of ideas, recipies, and enjoyment out of watching you and your family. Thank you for sharing! Blessings to all of you! 💙💙💙
I had 7 children with my husband. I’m was very blessed that all my children were healthy with no allergies. That seems it would be so hard to accommodate but I’m sure you had to get used to it and now you are a pro. Great mama.
My childhood in the 1970s was all about eating offal my father had a friend that ran an abbatroire so oxtail stew and pigs liver was a staple in my house never did me any harm if I could get oxtail id eat it today yum we dont see it much in england any more which is a shame.
I love your videos. I recently started canning, and I love it. I made some strawberry jam, and I'm going to make pop tarts soon. Thanks for all the inspiration❤
Jessica, I dont think you realize how much your videos bless ppl!❤ Every Sunday, after church, I look forward to your video and seeing your homestead flourishing, the kids all pitching in and helping, your garden and your kitchen! The love you share with your family is one that seems to be a lost connection these days. So many families are technology driven and they pile up in bedrooms and on couches to play, or see, the latest movie, or game. As a medical coder, I read of providers urging parents to turn off the TV, and the games, and get outside!! On another note, a neighbor of mine years ago had a son that had PKU. He couldnt eat any protein whatsoever. When she made ice cream she used non-dairy coffee creamer. Just wondering if this is something you've tried... As always, thank you for sharing a glimpse of your life with us. Sending love from north Texas❤
It’s wonderful to see more nutritional options. I’m always enamoured by your creativity and dedication. You’re doing amazing Jessica! 💜you know your family better than any keyboard warrior, but it’s sad you have to keep explaining yourself to people.
Hi! Thank you as always for sharing! I am also allergic, including for cows milk, but I am also a vegan. I don’t normally buy the vegan cheese myself, and I am single. I so understand why you don’t do it for a large family. The cost is so expensive and the nutrition is so poor. I don’t do it myself either. I did it before, and it may happen again, but not on regular basis. I know I have commented on this before, but oxtail soup is delicious 😋 I of course don’t eat it anymore, but if you do eat meat, you should listen to Jessica and try it 😊 It’s important to eat the whole animal, both for the wellbeing of the animal, but also for the cost. I was also loving liver, and tongue, so I may be a strange one 😂 Have a blessed week! I am always looking forward to having you as my Sunday dinner company 😊 Love and blessings from Johanne, Norway 🇳🇴
Did you ever considered getting allergy shots for your son? He can get them for both dairy and peanuts. My son's alllergist has a huge wall of photos of kids who can eat various peanut products now. If he was exposed it could save his life.
We have met with our allergist to discuss it. We discussed all of the pros and cons/risks, and left it up to my son to decide when he was at an age where he could understand the risks and benefits. He has chosen not to pursue it yet, but I have a feeling he will once he ventures out into the "real world" without the safety our home provides.
My Doctor told me that you do not need to add salt to your food there is enough salt in food to keep us going. Since I have stopped adding salt to my food my blood pressure has been perfect. I don't foods that are in metal cans. I have many of the ladies who do cooking on UTUBE add far too much salt to their food. When we sit down to eat a meal my fiancee and I we want to taste the food not the salt. I'm going to do what is healthy for me over following any recipes.
I would agree that you don't need to add salt to the food if you are cooking using processed ingredients, as they are already salted. But if you are using whole foods without salt, they might need some added when you put all of those foods together. Salt serves a purpose in our bodies and isn't all bad!
Jessica! We in rhe Caribbean use a lot of oxtail! So I was so happy to see it being used someone else. I enjoy your videos!! Hello from Trinidad in the Caribbean!!
I am anxious for the grass to be that green here in Northern Michigan, and anxious to start planting the garden. That tortilla press is amazing!! Your meals look delicious, thanks so much for sharing.
Hey, don’t share the secret of oxtails! LOL! They are sooo expensive now because more people are eating them. During the holidays they went as high $45-$60 per tails. Crazy! Love your videos because you explain everything. No worries about redundancy at all because your cooking, canning, gardening, and food storage while being frugal wonderful.
Just curious to know how involved Gabe is with his food preparation? As a growing man, I can imagine will eventually leave the nest and as a mother I would be extremely concerned of his allergy.
He is pretty involved. I have trained all of my kids to know how to prepare a lot of our staple recipes. He's going to need to know how to cook for himself since he can't rely on what others cook for him.
This was a really cool video watching meals made from scratch .can't find many like this on RU-vid.i enjoyed this very much . I'm planning on watching more and sharing your videos.
Please stop listening to all the naysayers. You are amazing it hurts my heart to hear how often you talk about the mean people talking about things they dont understand and probably shouldnt have an opinon on anyway. You love your children always strive to make good wholesome meals and an environment where they are learning and growing. The nicest compliment I can think to tell you is I see God in you. Your gentle nature, your humbleness your kindness. Please continue to be a blessing and give yaself grace. Hugsss
we make a hoop cover for our brassicas out of old blue plumbing pie and scaffolding debris netting and it keeps the cabbage white butterflies off. It does help alot xox
My husband's German grandmother taught me how to make oxtail's and sauerkraut. The first time I had this I didn't know if I could eat it, but I tried it and it was delicious! She served it with mashed potatoes. Most stores here do not carry oxtails, but I would love to buy some. I love watching your videos. I am Celiac and have lots of food allergies, so glean your recipes.
O my goodness, I'm behind, you already have veggies in the garden? I'm a new gardener, so my question is, what do you use to keep pests out of your garden? I had a big problem with look a like lady bugs , that eat up everything. God bless
One of the greatest help with bugs for us has been to encourage birds on our property. We have bird baths and bird houses. They help control the population of Japanese beetles. We have also released praying mantises and ladybugs in the garden to help control the aphids and other pests. But a great thing to do is focus on companion planting. There are certain flowers, like marigolds, that can help deter them. As a last resort we might sprinkle diatomaceous earth for certain crawling pests and/or use bT spray for caterpillars or neem oil.
That field of dandelions was pretty. Do you ever fry up dandelion blossoms for meals or snacks? They’re actually very good. You just need to soak them in some salt and vinegar water, or vinegar and baking soda water to get rid of any bugs. Then just batter and fry them up.
I just want to thank you for telling me about radish pods. I know it’s not in this video, but I figured you would see the message anyway. Here we grow food year round (zone 10b), because I got sick we seeded and transplanted too late so nearly all of my radishes bolted. If you hadn’t introduced me to the pods, I would have feed everything to the chickens. Instead I now have 10 pounds of blanches radish pods in the freezer. Everyone loves them especially in stirr fries. I love them just steamed and sprinkled with salt. I also didn’t panic when a lot of my turnips, broccoli and cauliflower bolted, because I remembered you talking about seed saving. I have just left them, the bees love them and we will have free seeds next year.
It amazes me that people find fault with what you feed your family! You are contentious about everything you do. You’d think people would cheer you on. Obviously, these are people who have never dealt with anaphylactic issues in their homes. Regardless, there, unfortunately, will always be people who would rather find fault than be supportive. Their loss. Your trees are beautiful! I just wanted to take a deep breath and smell those inspiring smells.
As a teen, I didn't get much love at home from my parents. So I would dress as sexy as I dared for attention. I didn't get much attention either. I was always seeking to be loved and to love. I wanted attention. I wanted the love and attention I didn't get at home. My parents were so miserable together, so I just figured I would avoid marriage, and I would be happy. ¡WRONG! As a 52 year old woman, I realize this feeling of being unloved and unwanted attention starved drove my behavior. Over time, I began to build a real relationship with God. That's another thing I didn't have growing up. I have made peace with God for my choices. I spent the last eleven years caring for my daughter, which I ended up raising on my own. I have been the mother to her. I was the mother I wish I would've had. Strong, loving, and fun. I also had to be dad. I am going to leave this advice for young women dressing provocatively. ¡STOP! You aren't going to draw a high-quality man to you. I am talking about the quality of the Godly man who will take his responsibilities seriously. You will draw low quality guys who will use you up and throw you away.
