BCTV explores Soweto Skeleton Movers from South Africa. Street dancing on the corners of their township, this collective of dancers dance a style known as 'Skeleton Pantsula.' Its many influences are explored in this Pro:File.
In Soweto in the 1950s commuters developed a style known as 'isparapara' inspired by their jumping on and off of moving trains. This was mixed with tap dance and later became known as pantsula.
More than a dance, pantsula is a lifestyle. Influences can be seen in jazz, breaking, popping, house dance and bonebreaking.
