Papa Rico leaves behind a farewell letter as he makes a deal that will allow Eva and Cali to have a more wealth in their life but it will cost his.
From The Purge: Anarchy (2014): One night per year, the government sanctions a 12-hour period in which citizens can commit any crime they wish -- including murder -- without fear of punishment or imprisonment. Leo, a sergeant who lost his son, plans a vigilante mission of revenge during the mayhem. I tip my hat to the writers and the production staff, of at least The Purge 1 and 2. For every single time I watch this movie, and it gets to this scene, it just invokes a bevy of emotions for me. I automatically think about someone close to me and if they ever made that kind of sacrifice, just so I could have an easier life with less struggle and financial hardship. Makes my stomach drop literally every time.

A noble sacrifice but in truth I'm skeptical the family would actually pay. I'd have made sure the money was transferred before purge night and given the bank specific instructions to transfer from my account into my family's on the day after. And plus I can't help but wonder. What thrill is there from killing a sick old man who cannot put up any real fight? I'd figure most people would want a challenge on Purge night. Like the polite leader and his gang from the first film.

I would imagine that this all organized through an external service who makes sure that the money will be wired to the right persons. Once the sacrifical lamb is delivered, said service will go ahead and will finalize the financial transfer. This way, the family has to pay for their guy (and a bit extra to the service as well) but are all parties sure that they get what they want. As for why people would purge like this? Those people want to kill someone just for the thrill of the kill itself and don't want to hunt them. It is all to satisfy a depraved desire to end a life, risk free. It is a bit similar like the Elite Hunting Members in the "Hostel" series. They also pay a lot of money for victims that can't fight back and can be tortured and murdered at their leisure. And it could also be a depraved status symbol, being able to say that you have enough money to buy yourself a purge victim...

Yeah….sadly this DOES happen. I found it shocking the writers put a real controversial but highly underreported horror in this film hinting quite loudly about the truth of it happening, to make people watching think. The truth is very people actually do offer themselves for sacrifices as well as organ collectors that pay for their deaths to their families. This does happen. Reports are able to be found if you look 😢

I agree this scene is very disturbing, thing is those rich cats should have a garage, wharehouse, storage or whatever, I don't care how well they cover everything, that's the home, were you socialize, memories and all those values, especially being Rich I would have a place far from home to do that type of activity. From a certain point of view it’s understandable why Rico did what he did, …he’s dying from cancer and no medicine can cure him , also he doesn’t want his girls to spend hundreds of dollars just for him to go through treatment that won’t help in the end ( just prolong his suffering, from their living situation - they can barely afford) so he sacrifices himself to a wealthy family for $100,000 so- his girls can live happily like and to put himself out of his misery so he doesn’t have to suffer anymore from cancer. Eva is upset by this but I think she understands his reason, cali on the other hand is too naive to accept this and understand

This wasn't smart at all. It was generous of him to give his life so his daughters could be wealthy. But it actually hurts them more knowing that you'd rather be murdered for money than to die peacefully with your family. And how would you know that they'd give the money to them? Like what if they just lied to you and used this to kill you. And besides, 100 is not that much. Considering how poor they both are they probably would go broke again after spending the money by how much knowlage they have in the film
