All pleasure ends in pain. The only way to avoid suffering is to reveal knowledge of the Self. To be free one has to renounce even the desire for freedom itself.
Papaji gives the analogy of the thorn used to remove the other thorn, “You need thorn of happiness to remove pain, but then you renounce happiness also.”
