In the early 90’s people in the USA would scrunch brown paper bags and use them as wallpaper! I thought it was brilliant and wanted to try it but sadly never had the time. Wife, mother, nurse and daughter!! These are absolutely beautiful 😃
Oh wow - that must have been an almighty project to make wallpaper that way! That's dedication to crafting! Yes, unfortunately, our various rolls in life do keep us busy but if we are lucky, we do get some time in later life. Glad you like the beads and thanks so much for watching and reaching out. 🙏💕
You are very welcome Yassira - sometimes we all need a bit of inspiration and it's great that we have the internet to help each other with ideas. Thank so much for watching.🙏💕
Hi Giovanna, I'm so pleased you love the beads and I hope you have fun making yours. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. It's always appreciated. 🙏💕
Thank you for sharing this project. I have been making paper bead for around seven years now and use all kinds 0f paper and materials, and this one is a cross between the two. Love it and I thank you.
Hi Dee, that’s good to hear - everybody should make paper beads!😍 I’m guessing you are like me then, always assessing anything and everything to see if you can make beads out of it, it’s so addictive isn’t it? Thanks so much for watching and glad you like the project. 🙏💕
Fabulous!! After your tyvek post, I gave an envelope to my 5 yo grand, so she could paint it. She had fun, but nothing else was done. I don't push her. The enjoyment is in the process! And can that girl go!!
You’ve got exactly the right attitude! The enjoyment is DEFINITELY in the process. They are lucky to have such a wise grandma! Thanks for your support here and hugs to you across the miles. 🇺🇸 🇬🇧💕
Oh Gilly … 😊 This video did not disappoint! Who knew paper bags could be so versatile?? Well worth the wait and such a delightful surprise! I think I need to cut back my work hours so I can spend a day once or twice a month just creating. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Rebecca - I'm so glad you liked it, I thought you might when I saw your comment on the Tyvek beads. I was working on this video when it came through and your enthusiasm made me think you'd love this technique too. Yes - cut back on work if you can! Since I left my old career behind, my creativity drive sky rocketed. I was always too tired or too busy before. Really hope you can cut back and enjoy creating more.🙏💕
Hi Gilly. Yummy and I loved this. She laid upside in my arms and purred all the way through, then when it was over she looked at the screen, looked at me and was like "where did it go, make it go". So we went back to the start and watched it all again. She really is your biggest fan. All of the painted sheets were beautiful, but I loved the colour scheme of the second necklace with the silver beads the best, I thought it was stunning. Thank you for sharing where you live too. We're the opposite to you here in Australia, so it's spring here now with new leaves and lots of baby birds, chickens and lambs.
Hi Alli, I always smile when you tell me about Yummy's reaction to my videos. I often wonder what would happen if I said her name, but other viewers might think I'd gone mad and it might confuse your poor kitty😸. Thank you for watching (twice!) thank Yummy for me.🤩 Glad you like the painted papers. I really envy you going into spring right now. I am so in denial of the seasons I find hard to cope with that I call autumn pre pre-spring and winter pre-spring. I probably annoy everyone in October by being excited that spring is on the way when all they want to talk about is Christmas.😂😂😂. Enjoy your lovely spring babies - there is nothing like sitting outdoors and revelling in all the enthusiastic birdsong and activity - especially the dawn chorus which is the best sound ever. Much love to you and Yummy and all your animals. Thanks for your support, as always.🙏💕
Hello Gilly, what a fantastic way to use our brown paper bags. I love the idea for the pouches. They can be used year-round when gift-giving. Your necklace is gorgeous. I Love your creative ideas and how you repurpose everything. Thanks for the Free printables. Please say hello to Mum Phil for me. Give her a hug as well. Consider yourself hugged, Debbie 🤗😊❤
Hi Debbie, thank you so much for your lovely comments. I’m glad you like what I do here. I have to say I don’t always reuse materials but I try to reuse as much paper as possible. Thanks for saying hi to my mum - it means a lot - our elderly are so marginalised. That will be us before too much longer! 😱. Much love to you across the miles and thank you for watching. 💝
These are so pretty, thanks for taking the time to make this video for us. Now I know what I want for my birthday, a gelli plate and a brayer and some new acrylic paints!!!! I have tons of paper bags.
You are very welcome! Thank you so much for watching and taking time to reach out. Sorry to be so long in responding. I hope you got what you wanted for your birthday! Maybe you are busy now painting those paper bags 😍 Hope you are enjoying using that techique - it's such good fun. Thanks again.🙏
Hi Nora, glad you love them - thanks so much for watching and reaching out. Yes, food bags are brilliant too - hope you make lots of lovely beads and/or pouches. Thanks again for your visit here🙏💕
Wow, this is amazing, will definitely try this, I have lots of paper from packaging and also a gell press , thanks for sharing your technique, you should do workshops. X
Hi Michelle, welcome and many thanks for your lovely comment. Another gel press fan! So many of us out here - I can’t get enough of it.🤗 I used to do workshops but the last couple of years has been difficult for everyone in every walk of life. Also I’ve got my very ancient mum living with me now. Even makes doing RU-vid difficult - so no hope doing workshops at the moment. Thanks for watching and enjoy using up that packaging! 😍💕x
I’m so happy to have found your tutorials, I’ve been using brown paper bags to make things and I love it. I press & emboss it and paint it, not always in that order and I wanted to make beads with the embossed on the surface so, it was great to see what you do. Love the pouches. Love your beads. Practically as rich looking as exotic pearl strands. Thank you.
Thank you Susan, I am so pleased to have you here - there can never be too many crafters in one place! 🤗 I’m glad you like my videos and find them useful. It’s funny you mentioned about the embossing thing as I’ve been playing around with ways of using my Big Shot to make beads like that. It’s all good fun and takes our minds away from the world’s issues! Thanks so much for watching and reaching out, I really appreciate it. 🙏💕
Beautiful!! Love your ideas! You try things I haven't seen. I wonder though if you could get closer to the microphone. I have to turn up the volume when listening to your channel in relation to other channels. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Thank you Patty - I appreciate that. Regarding the sound, it’s not so much being close to the mic - it’s more about adjusting sound levels during edit. The sound is tested across five different devices before uploading so I’m not sure why it’s occasionally too low for some viewers. If I have it up on full volume on my devices, it would be very loud. I’m really sorry you are having that problem - I will double check the sound levels with next video. Thanks for letting me know. Thank you for watching and reaching out - always appreciated. 🙏💕
I get it. I know you are doing all you can. Thanks for letting me know. I'll just adjust the volume at this end. I just don't want to miss anything you say. You really are so creative!! Thank you!! Patty
Thank you Patty, your’re very kind. I envy RU-vidrs who have a studio and whole production teams to sort all this stuff. But it’s just me and I don’t know about audio.🥴 Thank you for being understanding. 🙏💝
ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS! Thank you for showing us how to do this! I am goin to try this right tomorrow. It does look relaxing, which is what I need right now! I am the same as you, I considered acrylic pouring, but never did because I just literally could not afford all the paint, then see it dripping everywhere and getting basically wasted. Lovely work and I hope you have a wonderful holiday season! Also, your sewing machine is absolutely adorable! I have been sewing for 30 years now. Hard to believe!
Hi Paula, glad I’m not alone in seeing the waste in acrylic paint pouring. Thank you for you lovely comments, I’m pleased you enjoy the videos. Wow, 30 years of sewing, you must be very good! I did love sewing classes at school back in the day and made some nice clothes in my teen years but I haven’t made any actual clothes for many years. I am thinking about having a go at it again but time is so short these days - can’t do everything 😍 Yes that sewing machine is a work of art isn’t it? It’s a nice ornament to have in the house. The lady I bought it off has loads of them . She buys them and fixes them so they work properly. Thanks so much for watching and reaching out. 🙏💕
Your necklace has a celestial look to it. Amazing, simply amazing. What is the length of your necklace? Will it make a wrap bracelet? Thank you for your videos. I’m always in awe.
Hi deltalady, thank you for your kind comments and glad you like what I've done. The full length is approx 34 inches - so quite long. Yes, you can coil it around your wrist to wear it as a bracelet - I do wear my long necklaces on my wrist but only if I'm going out for dinner or something - I wouldn't want to work with such a chunky bracelet round my wrist. Looks nice but not practical for every day (unless you have other people doing your housework and cooking!) Thanks again for watching and reaching out - always much appreciated. 🙏💕
Hi Lizzie - apologies for late response. You can if you want to, it's always good to make our beads and pouches as strong and protected as possible. Thanks for watching. 🙏💕
Wow, this is very cool! :D I never knew paper would end up like that with just a little scrunching. My mind is blown, this opens up so many more creative possibilities with paper. Such an easy project, yet so neat! Also the beads look grand, too!
Hi and sorry for such a long delay in replying - I’m still on my Christmas break🥴😍Thank you for your lovely comment and thank you for watching - much appreciated🙏💕
Beautiful work I will be trying this very soon. I have a couple of questions. 1. what kind of white paper do you use? 2. How long do you let the paper dry before you crunch (screw) it up? 3.How long do you let the paper dry before you paint on the gold? 4. How long do you let the beads dry before you add the mod podge? amazing work. Many thanks1
Hi Maria, first of all, I am really sorry to take so long to reply. I haven't been working very much for the last couple of months and am just catching up with everything now. 1) The paper I used in the video was a brown paper bag I got when I went shopping in my local health fod store. The bits that look white are the brown paper with white gesso painted on. You can use and brown paper as long as it's quite strong. 2) If you use acrylic paint and it's put on quite thinly using a gelli plate the way I do in the video - the paint will be dry within a few hours, sometimes even one or two hours - you just need to make sure it's touch dry. It will definitely be dry overnight if you are worried that it isnt dry enough. 3)Same as above if it's acrylic paint. Mine is often dry enough within an hour. If I do this in a 3 hour class, we use hair dryers in between stages. 4) Should be dry ready to Mod Podge within two or three hours or just leave overnight to be sure. I hope that helps. Let me know how you get on. Thanks for watching and asking good questions - once agin, my apologies for taking so long to respond.🙏💕
Just wow! These are gorgeous ! Do you have a template to cut out for the beads or do you have a technique when you are putting ruler to paper ? I’m commenting from Kentucky in USA. I LOVE your channels and will probably be spending a great deal of time watching. Thank you for the creativity that flows from you!!
Hi Lisha, thank you so much for your kind comment. I do have a template which is in my etsy shop, it makes drawing out the triangles much quicker. You don't need a template to be honest, you can just measure the lines to draw your triangles but I made the template to speed things up in the classes I used to do with groups. If you want to see the template in my shop, the link is in the About section of my channel. Thank you for watching and reaching out. 🙏💕
Hi Yvonne, your templates are on the way - I posted them today - thanks for your order.🙏No I don’t sell the gel plates but you can get them on Amazon - that’s where I get mine. They are well worth buying, you’ll have hours of fun making tons of prints! I have hundreds that I use for paper beads but lately I’ve been doing abstract collages using them. Let me know how you get on. Thanks for watching my videos and reaching out. It is very much appreciated. 🙏💕.
Excelente reciclado!! Me encanto y lo voy a poner en practica, tambien que podamos leer en nuestro idioma es espectacular!! Gracias!! Esa placa de gel, como se consigue o como se puede reemplazar?
Hi Allie, I use all sorts of different acrylic paints, some more expensive than others. But in general, I have never had a problem with any acrylic paint except the REALLY rubbish stuff I got in Pound Land in the UK - just out of curiosity to see if I could gel print with it. I did get prints but the paint was thin and slimy to use. Never again! 😍🙏💕
Hi Eugenia - good to hear from Brazil! The paint I use is acrylic. I used two brands, one is Arteza iridescent and the other is Magic Fly. Thank you for watching and sorry I took awhile to reply. 🙏💕
Sorry I probably should have said! I used 1mm round elastic to make my most recent necklace and some very thin rubber like stretchy stringing material I got from a sewing shop in my town - not sure what it’s called but I’ll find out - it’s very good if you are using spacer beads with a tiny hole. Hope that helps. 🤗💕
@@RainbowLane Yes, it will. Curious on the name of the stretchy stringing material you got at your sewing store. There is a sewing store right around the corner from me. Thank you.
Luckily, I am going into town today so if I get time, I will pop in there and see if they still have it - will update you later today. Have a good day.🙏💕
@deltalady52 I did get to the sewing shop and they do still sell it. I took a picture of the writing on the reel but of course I can’t put a picture here🙄 It just says ‘Elastic beading cord soft smooth 0.5mm’ it’s made of rubber. The one I have is thicker than that, 5mm is pretty thin. I just looked on online and if you Google YGDZ 8mm Elastic Cord, it will come up. I know Amazon has it. Hope that helps. 😍
Hi JollyRose - thank you for watching and commenting. The roller is sometimes called a brayer and you can get them online or maybe in your local craft store. This is what one description says online: "Hard rubber inking roller for smooth application of block printing ink and paint. Sturdy handle includes a back rest to hold roller away from working surface when turned upside down. Roller width 102mm." I use this one and a wider one too. Just Google brayer or inking roller and you will see them come up. I am watching your video about your journal - it's so lovely. I have a journal like this that I work on when I want to craft just for myself and it's getting really fat! I love the quotes you have in yours. I especially love All Things Bright and Beautiful - I too learned that in school and the words often come back to me when I need to remember the good things about the world. You will find that if you make these painted pages, you will probably love to use them in your journals. I tear mine up into strips sometimes to make borders or boxes on pages. Thanks so much for coming to my channel and have fun with the painting.🙏💕
@@RainbowLane thank you so much for your lovely reply, i will definitely try this in my journal😊and thank you for watching my video that makes me and my son really happy. I have to get back in making journal i really miss it,just distracted will alot of going on and try different projects. I will be watching your videos ❤️thank you so much😊
Say hi to your son and tell him he made me smile with all the things he was saying to you. It sounds as if you have a lovely child and a very good relationship with him. Yes, life can get in the way of our creating but you should try to find time to more of that pretty journalling. I’ve just thought, did you mean the paint roller or the bead roller? If you actually meant the bead roller, it is the one I manufacture myself and sell online. But if you google paper bead rolling tool, there are lots being sold on Etsy besides mine. The only difference with mine is the shaped handle but the rolling part is the same. Just Google it - not sure where you live but probably best to order one from someone in the same country as you with the post and shipping problems going on right now. Warmest wishes to you and your son. 💝🙏
Hi Belinda, it depends where you live - I am sure the big craft stores in the US will have them. There are three main brands Gelli Arts, Speedball and Gel Press. I just checked to see if Hobbycraft in the UK has them but I can’t see it listed. I got mine online through Amazon but there are other online options in the UK if you do a search. If you live in the USA, just do an online search for where to buy Gelli Arts in the USA and a list of stores, state by state, comes up on Gelli Arts website. You can also make your own gel plate which is quite easy. You use gelatin powder and glycerin - if you do a search for how to make your own gel plate, lots of instructions come up. Apologies if you live somewhere else other than UK or USA but I am only familiar with outlets in those two countries. However, as gel painting is so popular, the pads should be easy to get or order from most countries. Hope you find one! Thanks for watching. 🙏💕
