When this game came out, I didn't want to play it (not even try it) just because of the graphics. Yesterday, I decided to give it a try; I played non-stop for 14 hours (from 10am to 12:18am), and now is my favorite game ever!
Just played the game recently since its kinda underated here in germany and I gotta say damn I missed out! What a cool game. Has some flaws here and there but man is this game good! And the first time I heard this theme I was kinda blown away Everytime when I was out of rogueport for a longer time I wished to go back just to hear that theme again. Good job Intelligent Systems!
@silvermewtwo I agree on both counts. It makes you feel like you can trust the place but maybe perhaps not. It's probably one of the only themes I can widely remember from this Paper Mario, and I love it so much.
Paper Mario: TTYD was one of the best of Mario games in my opinion. This, Super Mario 64,Sunshine, and Galaxy. Legend of the Seven Stars, and the Mario and Luigi Saga games.
i remember a long while back when i went to best buy to get a new gc game,i saw this but passed it up b/c i felt i had too many mario games already my friend just recently let me borrow his copy.....i deserve the nut-kicking of a lifetime
yep it seems so. I loved paper mario the thousand year door as a kid and when I played super paper mario even though it wasn't the same i found no problem with it looking back on it. So hopefully I will have the same feelings for when I play the 3DS one, It looks good. hopefully the sticker thing won't be too much of a problem and that there will be plenty of them for you to find :3
I love all three games! TTYD is the best of them but i love all three! Super Paper Mario isnt a bad game, it's just we weren't used to it changing styles like that but hell it had awesome characters, fantastic music, story etc. I loved it!
@SpeakerPolice You're playing as a complete set of different character with different abilities, in a game with a story, while also trying to level up. That's what an RPG is. At the same time it may be a platformer, but it is foremost an RPG.
And yes, it was awesome in that aspect, but the first game simply did what I've never seen any game do, which is to just blow away all your worries as you are immersed in a world filled with talking fungi, star pieces that didn't hide behind scenery, and the notion that there's actually some inherent good in this world.
just finished the game now i know this theme is going to remind me of the best summer ive ever had hung out with friends went on vacation played this all night every night!
Yus, a spinception indeed. Super Paper Mario was a nice fresh experience from the original Paper Marios. Paper Mario Sticker Star is changing things up even more.. Intelligent Systems likes doing that it seems :3
I got this game for my 11th birthday, and I spent three hours playing it up to Boggly Woods. I didn't want to go to my birthday party, because I wanted to keep on playing this game! XD Beat Chapter 3 by about midnight...*sigh* Good times.
Paper Mario was fun. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door was among the most brilliant games I have ever played. Super Paper Mario should only be played if you consider it as it's own game. In that case, I thoroughly enjoyed it. (Except for that maze in space) But comparing it to PMTTYD is like comparing a pretty good ham sandwich to, say, gourmet smoked Muscovy duck.
Back on the topic of the music... (shall we ?) When you listen carefully to it, you can hear a lot of variations with all the instruments. It's a simple-looking music, but it's actually incredibly complex. Right ?

@meowth900 Actually for paper Mario 3ds the partners I know of that Mario will have is a Chain Chomp and one of those Wiggler things.Im not sure of any more though.I just cant wait till that game comes out cause I got every Paper Mario so far.
Be that as it may, it's still not a stereotypical RPG--it has extra elements thrown in that are significant enough to change its genre. (AND make it much better, but that's just me talking)
I personally think the first Paper Mario is the strongest, but I realize that's entirely because of my taste. TTYD was absolutely amazing, but in ways, it wasn't comparable to the first, as in the style, which was very different. Instead of the full-blown cutesy kind of approach, it was a bit darker, a bit more complex, and a bit bigger, which incidentally all was in the music as well.
Many people say Super Paper Mario sucks, but IMO it doesn't. It's just different, not bad. If SPM was the first game in the series, people would like it more. It's just that everyone compares the gameplay to the other PM games, althrough it's another genre.
@CaptainStefanLovric I know right!!!! I liked the battle style better too! I played Super Paper Mario on the Wii. I also played New Super Mario Bros. I remember when I first played this game, paper mario the thousand year door, I was a different country then my gamecube broke and I stopped at the level where you were on that pirates island, and was soo desperate to play more... I made it my lifes worth to buy another gamecube and another copy of the game since I was back here to the U.S. XD
It's cool, friendo. TTYD was underrated by most GC owners who haven't played the original. Actually TTYD was my first of that series, and it was only on a whim that I even played it. Ignorance on my part, I thought the whole paper gimmick seemed stupid and childish.
@zg234 I actually enjoyed Super Paper Mario. But Paper Mario 2 still has my heart. I really hope a sequel to Super Paper Mario does surface. But I'll settle for Paper Mario 3DS ;) Glad that game is going back to the roots of the original Paper Mario games. I think Super Paper Mario should exist with the originals but have it as a separate 'series'. Basically, a Spin-off of Paper Mario.
Could you put up smorg battle. That was my favorite music besides shadow queen. I remember back in sixth grade seeing the commercial on Channel 1 news and thinking OMG gotta have it... memories
@zg234 I'm getting kind of sick of people saying that SPM ruined the series. I know it wasn't as good as TTYD, but it wasn't horrible - it had the best story in all of the Mario games, in my opinion. The music in the game was catchy, the characters were entertaining and great (everyone loves hating Dimentio), and it was hilarious. XD
complete shift of genres. went from making an rpg with platforming elements to a platformer with rpg elements. hopefully they make a true sucessor to thousand year door. super paper mario just won't cut it.
@PiplupPeanut Agreed. It wasn't the same since it wasn't a turn-based RPG, and I hated the pixl partners, but I liked a lot of the other characters (especially Mimi) and I liked some of the concepts, such as Overthere and Underwhere. It definitely didn't *RUIN* the series, because no matter what I'll still always love Paper Mario (N64) and PM:TTYD, even if SPM didn't follow through.
@PiplupPeanut I totally agree with that, but PM:TTYD was better than Super Paper Mario for 3 reasons: The main city had lots do. The script was beyond beautiful It makes you appreciate things better. Think about it, Luigi's tails, meeting Yoshi, Flurri, Everything about the places and people had a feel because of the music. I still play this in all nighters with my cousin, and i tell you, when you play a game for 18 and a half hours straight, you know theres something up.
Great list. And haha yeah, I usually leave out the LoZ entries when making my top 5 list because they inevitably end up dominating the majority of it. And yeah, it would've been awesome if there had been even one instance, like in the final battle maybe, where you'd have to control more than 2 partners at one. Just a way to make it more large-scale. I need to replay Super Mario RPG again, it's the closest thing we have to the first two PMs. Well I suppose the DS's M&L series comes close too.
Super Paper Mario actually allowed me to enjoy the series more. I was happy to finally be free from the turn-based gameplay that always made me feel like I was being held back. The recent installation in the series is just so much more fun to play!
@SpeakerPolice I think the game's story was amazing, but it didn't really make me want to play through again. It was a story that could only be completed once. I'm also sad that they took out the badges, but I guess without battles, there is no reason for them :c
Oh, kinda hard for me to tell. The Legend of Zelda: A link to the past,The Legend of Zelda: Majora's mask Banjo Kazooie. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time and maybe The Legend of Zelda:Wind Waker. Again, it's really hard to tell cause I just love all of the Zelda games
its so strange to think how nintendo went from this masterpiece to a 2D, not-as-epic game. I mean a huge point of the game was that it was paper in a 3D settiing. luckily the 3DS game will go back to the old formula
