I took a quilling class at my public library. Instead of store bought quilling paper, she used colored copy paper that she cut with an older paper shredder. The strips weren't perfect, but was great for us beginners and unless you are a quiller, you probably couldn't look at my picture and see the difference. 💕🌞🌵😷

I was fortunate enough to learn how to do this by hand, without the tool, from my grandma when i was a young lad. I wasnt aware you could get a tool but i think im definitely going to be investing in one. Ive yet to come across another man who does quilling which is a shame i think, you can make some fantastic pieces.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and expertise. I have been watching various videos and none have touched on the problem I am having. I was so confused as to how these presenters were getting their coils to turn into the teardrop shapes so easily. I assumed it had to do with the length of strip but no video or directions in the beginners kit given to me addressed the issue. I don’t feel quite as stupid anymore thanks to you. I am now wondering if not using a pattern, as you mentioned, what is the standard length to use to make the various shapes as a beginner. I understand experience will tell me in the future, but for now, where should I start? I would be ever so grateful for any advice you are willing to share. Thank you.
