Papua New Guinea authorities say nearly 7,900 people living near the site of a deadly landslide are "at risk" as rock and debris continues to move down the hillside.
An alert for potential evacuation has been put out, with a province official saying the mountain remains "very active".
Rescuers say it is increasingly unlikely that victims will be found alive in the rubble.
The country's disaster agency says it fears about 2,000 people were buried when a mountain side collapsed last Friday.
This is much higher than the UN's estimate of about 670 victims.

The mud on the faces of survivors symbolizes mourning for the death of loved ones. The area is NOT remote it's within close proximity to the Canadian owned Barrick Gold Porgera Mine. Thank you everyone for your help and prayers 😢😢🙏 From Enga Province, PNG 🇵🇬🇵🇬🇵🇬

It’s not especially remote by local standards. It’s on the main road to Porgera, a major gold mine. And yes, it’s subtropical due to the altitude.

Go look at the satellite images before and after. There were very few homes there. Unfortunately I think it's a case of over inflating the numbers to get more Aid, but I could be wrong.

Here are the coordinates, EXACLTY where the slide went over the highway. -5.378674, 143.364278 Look at it yourself, then look at a history of the EXACT same area. Paste the coordinates into Maps and look. Stop being just another non-thinking individual. I didn't say it' wasn't tragic. Any loss of life like that is tragic. Questioning the numbers isn't evil or mean. It's due dilligence.

What are you talking about? Oil? That's stupid, not related with issue. While Australia, which is close to Papua New Guinea, also offered help. Why would you expect a country that is ten thousand kilometers away from a continent that has nothing to do with Europe?
