Paquito is so amazing. I had the honor of spending an evening with him in 2007 - a very nice, very friendly guy! And he's obviously the master of the clarinet!
The great Airto is on percussion. Saw him yesterday at Vic Firth/Zildjian party. The two of us were founding members of WEATHER REPORT in 1970. My boy John Lee is on in this great video as well. He and I were part of Larry Coryell's Eleventh House 70s fusion band! There's also the late great flautist/saxophonist James Moody playing in thus great band! RIP James!
I told Paquito in 1995 that he was the best on Alto since Bird! He was very humble and appreciative! Is that Claudio Roditi on trumpet? Any one know the line up?
Yeah, it's about "To Brenda With Love". And the nice classical excerpt is prelude number 3 from the first book of the "Well Tempered Piano" by divine Johann Sebastian Bach who inspired so many musicians, among others brasilian Heitor Villa Lobos.
If you liked this, you might enjoy Inmigrantes Big Band, led by Uruguayan director Daniel Camelo. His music blends jazz composition and arranging techniques with South American musical influences. There's some clips here on RU-vid, but audio on most of them isn't great. But you can get his album "Puertos" on Itunes or Amazon...it's really cool music, NEW sounds. Check it out!
Jorge Edisson Parreno Pineda It is indeed, one piece of art and a joy to experience, perhaps not only for the listeners and spectators but the musicians too.
