This comment was by Aaron Jones and may help others: "I've done this lanyard knot on dozens of knives thanks to this great tutorial. Every time I've used a large spool of 7 strand 550 paracord, melting the ends with a lighter to prevent fraying. Today I was doing this lanyard knot on a knife using a new to me paracord. Its called Tough-Grid 550 paracord which has 7 inner triple strands (they seem thicker than the other cordage I use) as well as an 8th "tracer strand" which is thinner.
The first knot went fine but it took several attempts to get the second knot to seat against the first. I could not get a third knot. After numerous attempts the only thing I could think of that would make a difference was the thicker inner strands. I cut the melted tips of the paracord off and made the remaining knots with no problem. With the ends melted the thicker inner strands must have been binding up, preventing the knots from seating. With the open ends it let the inner stands twist freely, allowing the knots to seat. Hopefully this will help anyone using this heavier cordage.
Snake Knot Knife Lanyard Easy to Tie Tutorial. The snake knot is a really easy knot to learn to tie. If you want a decorative knife lanyard or key lanyard then this is a really good knot to learn. This knot is also especially goo for the beginner, as it is very simple and decorative at the same time."

Johnny Debt I wrote a reply but don't know where it went. 🤔 I do both practical and decoritve knotting and am self taught by studying videos like yours and have become quite proficient at it and really enjoyed it thanks to generous people like yourself sharing your knowledge. I make Hindu and Buddhist prayer rosaries and the decorative knotting have upped my creations many fold. Practical knotting is great for fishing, camping, survival, and so many situations and scenarious. Even just a general knowledge of basic knot making is good to have. Some people are truly amazed at some of the simplest of knots I can make. It really is a great and very practical skill to have. I have a large knife collection as well and have embellished some of my knives with some cool lanyards. I am in US but am originally from India. Thank you again, so much, sir. 😃👍👏👏👏

If you start with the cord centered for length in the knife hole, should both ends become shorter at the same time? After 6 knots, one end is about 2 inches longer than the other for me.

is it weird that while i find your videos interesting content-wise, the #1 main reason i watch your voice is just to listen to you talk lol. Having Ptsd, their is very little that calms me down, and some sounds/voices even trigger my ptsd and i go into panic mode. Your voice is well, for lack of a better term, soothing. the accent helps too.

Well thank you so much for saying that. Some people do actually leave comments and tell me to shut up. I do try to explain a lot as I have one person who is blind and he watches them with his granddaughter. He tries to do the knot and she helps him when he goes wrong. Just as an additional note, I too was diagnosed with PTSD in 95. It still haunts me, but not as much as it used to. Wishing you all the best.

I have to disagree on the knife comment... IMO, this is the perfect backpacking knife. It's very lightweight, and cheap enough that losing it won't break the bank. It comes in THREE sizes, so you can dial in the prefect size for your kit. The lock back is much easier to use than a liner lock... Lastly, I'm not worried about carving wood with it, eating with it, or striking a fire steel with it; things I wouldn't want to do with a more expensive Spiderco or Kershaw, etc.. I started with the largest version of this Buck knife, and later bought the middle sized one, which I think is about perfect for backpacking. Now, excuse me while I add this lanyard to it... Thanks for the video.

I still have this knife, but it really is not for me. One of my favourite knives is a Hacking Knife, now that is totally designed to be abused. I did mod it to give it a hitched handle: You can see that one here: igkt-solent.co.uk/cheap-hacking-knife-to-fine-rigging-knife/

Hey, :-), I am new to knotting, in fact I want to create my first Lanyard for my Hoback knife. It has a Tanto Blade so I was looking for classic japanese knots, but I thought I start easy hence I have bad memories with knots, :-), took me ages to learn how to bind my shoes.

This knot is more oriental: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3byLeDu-gKw.html The thing with any knife lanyard is that it is very personal.

Hello and thank you. What was the beginning length of the 550 cord?
@KnottingKnots
@KnottingKnots 2 года назад
I just go by a very rough formula when doing decorative knots. For every inch of decorative knotwork, is use a foot of cordage. If you are younger than me, you will have to do a metric conversion 😉 😉 😉 Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.

It really depends on how long you want your lanyard to be, I usually calculate 1ft of cord for 1in of decorative knotting. Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.

I have that exact 39.00 buck knife and when I hold twisted Paracord in my hand two inches in back of blade I can open it in a blink. Lanyard in hand and snap it forward the force opens it right up. If you hold it tight up by the knife it usually doesn't work. If you need your knife fast for defense you will not be fumbling for it.

.... another reason for hating it, is that it is not UK legal. My favourite knife is my Myerchin folding seamans knife, closely followed by my Lansky World Legal. Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.

Johnny Debt it's quite unfortunate how strict the UK's knife laws are. I used to live in London when I was younger, and it made my passion for knives difficult to pursue

There would seem that there are some other knots quite similar to this by other people that are called the snake knot on the web which can be confusing as to which one is correct but there are more than one way to tie any knot and the way I find easy is to cross the leads and then make a wall knot which is easy and quick to do
